    Day 301 sober. 12-31-24 will make 1 year. I confess I was a "functioning booze bag" but I had anxiety and sleep issues. I always wish I quit sooner. I didn't go to AA. I just told myself "You need to leave that stuff alone,man. Its costing you too much". I confess I miss that euphoria but never the aftermath. Hangovers, puking ,anxiety , insomnia ,mood swings. No more vomiting randomly, taking aspirin like tic tacs. Needing naps because I'm hungover. I've had dreams I relapsed that felt too real and I was angry because I threw those sober days away. 301 days later, I feel better. Mind is clear and sharp. Sleep has gotten better. Before I moved out of my old city,I would go to my bar and drink club soda which was free. I drink NA beers now. Soon,I will order my 1 year sober token off Amazon.

    This was one of the best of sober-talk videos I've seen yet. I love how you didn't just say the tired out cliches "i have more energy" and stuff like that. It seems more honest. The examples given were realistic and the scenarios were relatable to normal everyday people, unlike some of the others on YT.
    I have been personally struggling with "total" sobriety for a while, but these kinds of stories are inspirational and help tremendously. Thanks

    • @lizziekindrew
      @lizziekindrew  4 месяца назад

      Thank you for the thoughtful comment. I was back and forth on 'total' sobriety for quite some time too. Ultimately, I've found that 100% not drinking is easier (for me) than the constant energy that moderation required. Between the planning, negotiating with myself, feeling guilty if I couldn't stick to my limits - I've found that just having to say "no" is so much less effort in the long run. Good luck on your journey, I hope you stick around! x

    I’m 11 months sober next week and I can relate to you on everything you mentioned. You also made me cry towards the end when you said ‘getting sober was the biggest act of love i could show myself’… or something like that. I really felt that. Once you have a few months under your belt and you start showing yourself the life you are building without alcohol, the less tempted you are to go back to the life you were living before. This sober life is infinitely better. Yes you might miss some stuff (having a wild night out, feeling awkward at the beginning of a party when everyone else has their social crutch in hand, feel like you’re missing out when you see a full pub garden in summer, having wine with dinner) but personally I can get over that when I put it into perspective of the much better life I am giving myself without alcohol.

    this video popped into my feed at such an unexpected time. i feel like it’s a sign. i’m 25 years old and i wouldn’t necessarily say that i have a drinking problem, however, i don’t like how alcohol affects me and my body and mind. i also feel like i have to be the stronger and bigger person for the people in my life and begin a sobriety journey. i did go about 30 ish days sober the last time i had this realization but then i went back to having occasional drinks. i have loved ones who are close to me who suffer from alcoholism (who don’t even know it). a lot of what they do during their free time consists of drinking alcohol. i had to have an uncomfortable conversation with one of my close loved ones yesterday about their alcohol use. and now i see your video on my feed. i haven’t watched it yet, but i’m adding it to my watch later list! thank you 🩵

    I’m in my first week of sobriety. My longest was 9 months and I always go back to that time of clarity, confidence, peace, self trust..
    it’s been difficult trying to get back to that point. I’ve tried and had to restart so many times.
    I am currently begging myself to not give in, and reminding myself it gets easier…. Just stick with it…
    The world feels scary and I am going through a breakup of a deeply toxic relationship with another person who struggles with alcohol. Loneliness and fear are alcohol’s loudest cheerleaders.
    Your videos are helping me through tonight. I live above a bar and the energy seeping up through the floors makes it difficult but I know the best things in life don’t come easy.
    Anyone else in the early stages, remember through these times you become stronger and stronger. We just have to keep rebuilding our muscles of willpower. I don’t want to keep restarting and you probably don’t either. Much love to everyone here and you for spreading your journey. 🫶🤍✨

    Been craving a beer and watched your video to remind me why going zero alcohol is so good for you. I'm almost on 5 weeks now. Longest I've gone without alcohol since I can remember. Drinking is just part of life where I'm from, so it's difficult to get away from it. I came to the decision to stop drinking after waking up one Sunday with yet another hangover. I had a few things I planned to do that day, but this hangover delayed my plans and I got virtually nothing done. I can't stand being unproductive, and I was tired of alcohol being the reason for it, so decided to stop. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to abstain from alcohol, because it gets difficult sometimes, but so far I think I'm doing OK.

    I haven't been drinking for about 2, 5 months (not counting days as it happened kind of organically and the exact number of days seems irrelevant). I used to think that certain melancholy mindsets and bouts of desperation were just an intergral part of my psyche but what do you know -- it was the alcohol! Even when drinking in moderation. Now if I feel anxious, there's usually a reason or trigger behind it instead of it being a constant feature of my experience. One thing that has surprised me are these spontaneous eruptions of joy and delight that come rather often these days. I was supposed to be a strictly melancholy guy =D And I get to experience a wider range of emotions than before, and I think there's more clarity to my emotions as they're not obscured by a background anxiety or desperation. Pretty huge change, actually.

    tip i can give is to try to listen to your subconscious and quit if it's telling you to, before it is too late;
    and the idea of quitting something will create a void. fill that void with something different to "replace" the alcohol.
    tier of destructive things in my opinion: 1. gambling 2. alcohol 3. drugs

Actually it was worse , cause i felt guilty every day buying beer . Any way ive stopped again , am on day 13 . Its hard to think i'll never drink alcohol again , but i'm going down this road and am really inspired by the video's of people like yourself who are spreading this message. One day at a time! And there's plenty of great beers to enjoy that are non-alcoholic if you're interested in trying that. I have a video on my favorite N/A beers. You got this

      I'm the same age you are. I used to drink a lot, but now I find that a couple of drinks once or twice a month allows me to enjoy my favorite beverages without causing any problems. In fact, it makes it more of a treat. But it's different for everybody. Good luck to you!

    I hit four years sober this October. I’ve lost two friends who won’t meet up with a non drinker. That’s ok, I hope they’re doing well. That wasn’t something I saw coming but other than that, quitting drinking has been wholly positive. I don’t miss it at all.

    I think if there’s a trifecta of some kind like drinking, being obese and being stressed or no sleep definitely increases the risk of cancer. Or like diabetes, smoking and drinking. Even eating lunch meat or long-smoked meats, being obese and drinking can do it.

    I’ve been a recovered alcoholic for 14 years and counting. As I will never drink again and I know this I feel comfortable saying “recovered”. I’m not even leaving the option open for relapse so I am NOT “recovering” as that implies I still have a problem and could relapse and I simply WILL NOT! Your mind is powerful. If you tell it you’re always in recovery and never recovered you will risk relapse forever as subconsciously your brain listens to this assertion. Also ask yourself why don’t places like AA post their recidivism rates? What are they hiding? Secular rehab seems like the superior option as the transparency is there more. That being said I am a spontaneous recovered drinker. I woke up and chose to quit and since the definition of quit is NEVER AGAIN, I have made my choice and it was actually really easy to stay sober. My word matters and will not lie about my intentions. If I say I quit it means I quit. It is that simple. There is now not even an option to drink so I won! I went from drinking 26oz of rum everyday to hitting the gym and getting healthy again. If I can do it you can too! RECOVER!!! You can do it!!!

    If anyone is looking to read a life changing book. This book has helped me immensely. Allen Carrs book, The Easy Way to Quit Drinking.
    It can change your life. It truly does make it easy. I know that sounds crazy but it is true.

    I have been questioning my relationship with alcohol lately. Last year I didn't drink for 3 months and I felt great, but some social events have been really difficult without drinking. I just sat back and watched how people acted when they drank and it's not pretty. I have cut back and I can see myself going without it soon. Alcohol is big business, so I don't think it's going anywhere. It should carry warnings , drinking this will wreck your liver. Society really needs to change their attitude toward drinking.

    • @lizziekindrew
      @lizziekindrew  4 месяца назад

      You exploring your relationship with alcohol is the ripple effect that creates change in how our society views the norms of drinking! And I agree, I think we need better warnings on alcohol products as well. I believe Ireland is the first country to pass a law that will require a warning label to state that alcohol is linked to fatal cancers.

      Hard to estimate. 14-30 or so probably. Some weeks I didn't drink during the week and would binge drink on the weekends, sometimes I'd drink 2-3 beers at home on weekdays.

    If only I knew how easy it would be, it’s been over 2 years and I don’t have any cravings at all, for me the key difference was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal, not even within the first 30 days after go’ogling and following Steffon Barkload’s and quitting because I just wanted to.
