Right On! George the prototype race community would welcome you, although unless you have some race experience you might want to take more gradual steps. Many racers start in karts, its way cheaper and I highly recommend the experience (I still kart). The SCCA has something like 28 national classes of race cars so there is much to choose from, depending on your preference and budget..
