So what you are saying here is in LOTR / The hobbit they talk Finnish and Not Elvish....? Then how come Everyone... and i mean EVERYONE call it Elvish? :o
chubbies, i read the biography of Tolkien years ago and he himself and him told clearly that he make the quenya of the high elves or the inmortal lands based in FINNISH LANGUAGE, so some of our friends here are not wrong, Tolkien himself and him told us clearly about that, and he based the diferences among elvish languages based in the languages of old Europe like welsh or irish, in the disc that come with the movies they explain how was the matter of languages for the movies, David Salo and other experts was in charge od the dialogues and so on, is very interesting

I like Evangeline Lily but the hobbit films were a train wreck in many ways. The LoTR trilogy had so much time and love put into it and it truly shows. In my honest opinion, The Hobbit trilogy was a cash grab. They made 3 movies and barely showed Mirkwood, a central point to the book’s story?! I don’t blame her for not remembering any because it wasn’t as magical of a film and I assume experience, sadly. But this is all just my opinion 😊
@@cheeseisherelive753 Yeah I didn't like it even before I saw it, just because of the fact that they made three movies out of it. Having read both works, The Hobbit is about a sixth of the length of LotR and contains about a sixth of the content. So I thought, they clearly got greedy and started laying on the filler. And lo and behold, it was indeed full of filler. During Thorin's duel with Azog I was like "just die already dude."
@@ikeimas To be fair, Bilbo was knocked out for most of it, so it wasn't even related. But altering that just meant they had even more space for rather low-grade non-Tolkien material...
Can we all stop for a moment a consider the following: ''Elvish'' is not a language. Tolkien's Elves speak and have spoken many languages among which there is Sindarin, Noldorin, Quenya, etc. Much like we, humans, speak English, French, German, Spanish, etc., Elves too have a variety of different tongues. Thus, let us all have that in mind while referring to one of them.
I think, though, that "Elvish" can be an all-encompassing term for all the dialects of the Elves. For example, the Philippines has 120-175 different languages and dialects. In the Filipino Constitution, it states that "Filipino" is the national language with the idea being that it encompasses all the dialects in the Philippines. But there isn't harm in specifying which one is spoken. Here, she speaks Sindarin.
Liv MadeYouLaugh No, you're missing the point. The term ''elvish'' refers to Elves, which are a species, much like humans or dogs. Quenya and Sindarin, for instance, are two different languages and they're both spoken by Elves, much like German and Italian are both spoken by humans. And, since we don't call the latter ''human'' languages, I see no reason why languages spoken by the Elves should be called ''elvish''. They have real names. Use them! P.S. You can use the term ''elvish'' to distinguish them from other languages, such as those spoken by the Dwarves or the Orcs, for instance, but you shouldn't use it in a more technical context where you're referring to a specific language.
KingOfShadows1500 No, no. The word "Elvish" refers to the language spoken by the Elves. "*Elvin* (or Elven)" is the word meaning "of the Elves" and is an adjective. Such as the comparison of "Dwarvish" (language) and "Dwarven" (adj., of the Dwarves), the difference between the words should be observed. Now: Accent vs. Dialect vs. Language American English and British English are accents because they people of those languages can perfectly convey ideas through their language. Dialects, as proven here, are more tricky, however, there can be a defining distinction. This can be defined as languages who share linguistic history. A great example, believe it or not, is the Elves and their assortment of languages. According to Tolkien, all the Elves' lineage can be traced back to a single point in Tolkien's universe. This is where all Elves originate, where there was a single language for all Elves. From here, they're have been migrations and separations, this created the many Elvin dialects we know today. You may bring up the point of Japanese and Chinese, and how Japanese is a derivative of Chinese. This leads me into what defines a language. Languages are really distinguished by obviously their sounds and grammatical structure. But the other, most important factor that goes into what determines a language is politics and geographic borders. This probably overrides most other rules (although they're broken all the time). Chinese and Japanese, although Japanese can be considered a descendant of Chinese is the fact that Japan is its own country. This is especially applied German and Dutch. They sound almost exactly alike, and there are plenty of sentences that sound, look like, and mean the same thing. So with these, you could make the argument that each Elvin faction are their own sovereign entities, and you would be correct, however I consider each faction as being a city-state under a common heritage, and this is the reason I consider the tongues of Sindarin and Quenya to be dialects.
She speaks it so beautifully. Makes me tingle! I know some fans didnt like Arwen saving Frodo but as a young woman it made a huge impression on me. When she stood her ground against the Nazgul I was so moved.

That's a funny way to spell pants
perfect cast, even though Arwen got Glorfindels role from the books aswell, the love story between Aragorn and her was real and well executed in the movies - I actually cancelled my prime account when I saw the trailer to rings of power and the vanity fair article - what a dishonor to Tolkien that's about to happen.
I want a country where they talk Elvish ONLY.... I would have moved there right away !
Still a own language :o
Once again... So? o.o It's still 1 Language that is not talked in any country.... Becanse its Made up o.o But nice copy/paste xD
So what you are saying here is in LOTR / The hobbit they talk Finnish and Not Elvish....? Then how come Everyone... and i mean EVERYONE call it Elvish? :o
Arya Deva nonsense and it doesn’t sound like Finnish at all.
chubbies, i read the biography of Tolkien years ago and he himself and him told clearly that he make the quenya of the high elves or the inmortal lands based in FINNISH LANGUAGE, so some of our friends here are not wrong, Tolkien himself and him told us clearly about that, and he based the diferences among elvish languages based in the languages of old Europe like welsh or irish, in the disc that come with the movies they explain how was the matter of languages for the movies, David Salo and other experts was in charge od the dialogues and so on, is very interesting
Her voice is so beautiful! It's so gentle, especially when she is speaking elvish :)
She is so pretty!!

Her appearance and her voice were intended by the universe for this role
Spine: meet the shivers. Eerily beautiful. I've always thought she carries herself with such a shy dignity and poise, but in particular her ability to speak Elvish is just amazing, she hits exactly the right tones to make it perfect. When she's spurring her horse on, in retreat of the Ringwraiths, just so compelling and endearing. I hope she gets a lot more work in Hollywood, she's a talented actress, she definitely has the ability to be a leading actor in a film.

she was just how i imagined arwen to look like when i was reading the books

@@lordofthecringe3480 i had a Brazilian girlfriend and she loved to use that word which is rarely used by English native speakers.

***** No, you can't.
+KingOfShadows1500
German is a language, it has different dialects...
Elvish is a language, it has different dialects.
Dialect vs. Language
American English and British English are accents because they people of those languages can perfectly convey ideas through their language.
If your girl is this pretty and speaks Elvish, she's a keeper.
I can hardly imagine anything more attractive than Liv Tyler in her prime speaking sindarin
