- The Batman Arkham series was a milestone for superhero video games and just gaming, in general. This series saw voice acting legends like Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill return to reprise their roles as Batman and Joker. Previously, we had seen versions of these character from the DCAU, with shows like Batman the Animated Series helping so many find and love these characters and worlds. The Batman Arkhamverse will always be consider as the Definitive way to make a superhero game for years to come and it is now up to the insomniac spider-verse to pick up the pieces.
I want to like those games, but they honestly just make me wish I was playing Arkham instead. You just can’t top the Batman villains and world-building.
@@spencerr.9299 I often feel the opposite due to the traversal. It feels unbearably slow and simple after playing the recent Spider-Man games. Tbh it's spoiled me. I used to love traversing Gotham city in Knight but now it just feels boring to me.

@@TheDIZZLER. That's true Arkham Knight was the fastest out of all of them. However my point was that in my opinion the traversal felt simple and boring when compared to the recent Spider-Man games. You can have your own opinion on the traversal all you want. I was just stating mine.

The first Arkham game I played was knight when I was 12 and I still remember just being shocked by the gliding and how smooth the game play was, I’m 16 now and I’ve 100 percent all the Arkham games
Buddy I remember when I was replaying the Arkham asylum free demo when I was a kid over and over again before I saved up the money to buy the full game 😂 such a great trilogy/quadrilogy. I played every single one afterwards as soon as they dropped
Good point about the Arkham game's maturity. They're not gratuitous with their violence. It all felt like it had a purpose.
I’ve always found the weapon censorship kind of funny, as I would assume a human being getting hit with a laser weapon would probably be in much worse shape than if it were a standard firearm. A bullet, depending on where it hits, is feasibly survivable, but I don’t think the horrific injury one would get from a concentrated bolt of plasma would be fixable.
Sometimes the censorship deaths are just insanely brutal too because they leave so much to the imagination. For example, when Kraven was hanged in front of Tarzan in the Disney movie. They obviously panned away so that it wasn't graphic, but it's almost more terrifying.
There were also the violent side missions in the Season of Infamy pack with Killer Croc and the Assassin Civil War in Arkham Knight.
That's true. I always really liked The civil war angle that they went with in Knight.
I wonder what happened to Rocksteady. It seems like they used to be a lot more creative, unless that was just due to Paul Dini behind the scenes.
Many of the creators of the original Arkham trilogy left the studio to form their own independent studio. The current Rocksteady is only Rocksteady in name.

Love the vids. Cool to see a video that ties together DCAU and Arkham, basically my 2 favorite versions of the Batman characters.
I loved Arkham Knight. My only things against it were its over reliance on the Batmobile (especially the Riddler race courses, I hate those to this day, uhg!) and I wish anyone but Jason Todd was the Arkham Knight. As a character himself, the Arkham Knight is an interesting concept and I wish we could've gotten more story to explore him more before the "big reveal" of his true identity. Sometimes the mystery of an identity is better and more mystique than the actual identity itself.
Even with the Batman:TAS censorships with the goofy laser guns though, even as a kid I was impressed with how "dark" and "mature" the story writing and character developments were. The best part of it for me though was the character designs. I loved how most characters resembled "realistic" humans while other characters weren't shy about looking fantastical.
It was this show in fact, combined with the Jim Carrey Batman: Forever movie, that got me to fall in love with The Riddler as a villain character to begin with. Of all Batman's rogues, Riddler is always my top guy and this show is a huge, top reason for that.

These versions of the characters will always be my personal favourite voiced by two amazing people

As definitely not the real hideo Kojima, I wanted to say that I think you're doing fantastic videos here and I would love to see you eventually make a video about evolution and character changes of Joker over time in the DCAU itself, or even in the Arkham
Definitely the best joker depicted in media imo. They somehow managed to make him genuinely hilarious, something other films, games, and tv shows usually fail at, genuinely terrifying, and hate-able and love-able at the same time. The perfect recipe for the Joker.

That's a great example of censorship! Kind of crazy that both the censored and uncensored deaths of the Joker in that movie are gruesome lmao, at least for a cartoon of that age. I really appreciate you watching!

Great video Jay and these games have my second favorite version of the joker but he is still one of my favorite characters in any video game and i really like how brutal the joker is in Arkham Knight and I been interested in your talking about censorship in the DCAU in the future

This video reminds me of AMC choosing to sensor some deaths and certain swear words in The Walking Dead TV show especially after the criticism of the Negan introduction moment being too graphic.
Just wanted to ask since you're watching the DCAU again, are you watching on the streaming service order or the production order? I'm asking because the production/DVD order for the episodes is the more cohesive order and the one intended by the writers. I'm also doing a full rewatch of the DCAU and I'm currently watching Superman The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures. I really think it's unfortunate that Superman The Animated Series never got its own animated movie.

Arkham city matched the dark knight as far as promotion and execution.
Rises like Arkham knight has the fanbase a little more divided still to this day.
Origins is like the gotham knight animated film set in the nolan verse, a few contradictory story elements but overall a faithful enough edition to the lore of both worlds.

I hate censorship especially the 4kids censorship I remember watching Yu-Gi-Oh some guards broke into a room & they wanted kiba bro they started pointing at him. In japan they had guns pointing at kiba. Censorship just takes the fun & the drama of the story. 🤬🤬🤬
