- The situation around Sweet Baby Inc has really devolved over time. I don't understand why some people think this way. I don't think it's how we actually build towards a better future. Celebrating our differences can be a good thing, as it can make us even more unique beings than we already are, but promoting those differences as the defining features of what makes us who we are is never good. Many of the world's worst ideologies and even crimes have been justified by a similar line of reasoning. #gaming #sweetbaby #assassinscreed

I think it's important for people to be able to speak about things AND sometimes it's important to even disagree and be able to articulate why. I disagree with a lot of these ideologies that look towards people's races as their identifying feature. I personally think human beings are, or at least should be, far more deep than that surface-level identity. At some point, I think society as a whole will generally understand how foolish and nonsensical the insistence on SBI and the like of changing things around in media. This is hopefully an issue that gets solved by people simply thinking, “Who cares?”. Sure, there is always going to be discourse over perceived censorship or pandering, and perceived insensitivity or ignorance, but the sad extremists on either side of the issue will fade into irrelevancy.

But video gaming has been a huge outlet for progressive messaging and even when the politics are put to the side its just all around fun done right. Like im a pretty far leftist and im so damn confused on why all these previous games where minorities are better written is somehow not beinv taken into account. Heck FromSoft has political theming in most of their games if you read the nuance, Elden Ring has several stances against Theocracy and authoritarianism, Metal Gear (moving from FromSoft) has a whole Narrative against the military industrial complex, Pokemon has had Political Narratives in RSE/BW but people dont cling onto that cause they end up beimg well written nuance. Hell im gay and white and i love when other heritages get displayed and i spend so much time trying to make sure the diverse array of characters im writing are well written repressentation cause i know what it's like getting pandered slop just for the sake of boxes and its terrible, like these are the people on why slop gets okayed and bad representation gets used as a "This is why XYZ getting representation is ruining something"

You're absolutely right and that's why the Star Trek example works too because it's good writing just like the old Pokemon stuff. Meanwhile, people now don't know how to actually write anymore. They tick boxes more than actually focusing on structure and nuance.
@@justinsider7890 EXACTLY! I love old Star Trek, it was hugely progressive and made introspective on being human. It's why I love great games like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil and Metal Gear even though they have political messaging, they're written so well that Jin becoming a Vigilante, Leon finding the corporate corruption in Umbrella or Metal gears whole thing on trying to keep Snake human but grappling with horrors of the military industry complex don't fully matter

It's why Original and Prequel Star wars work so well cause the politics are more nuanced even after their confirmation on what they're about, or how Sly Cooper has whole chapters about police and political corruption and they connect into the main narrative without being a soap box

I'm pretty sure there's a quote I've read that would fit what Sweet Baby Inc is doing but for the life of me I can't remember what it is. At some point this is all going to come crashing down and when they look for help from their "fans" they're going to get hit with the realization that nobody wants to support them only to watch them fail.
Also the type of fans they cultivate are the people who will tear you apart as soon as you do something they disapprove of.

As funny example so that we all don't spend the day depressed, a gamer I follow (who I've mentioned in the comment section of videos like this one) did a Let's Play of Kingdom Hearts 2 a few years ago. One of the missions in that game is in Halloween Town from The Nightmare Before Christmas and the mission is to rescue Santa Claus from Oogie Boogie but the guy left the world before he did that and for a while people liked to joke about it but they've let it go since then but a lot of people still remember it.

Sometimes it doesn't matter but sometimes it's something they don't let go that can ruin someone. Whats worse is when its not even a mistake really but the internet can be so judgemental that they decide that it is.

I consider myself a liberal, but SBI’s stances are not liberal, since liberalism values the lives and dignity of ALL people, not just those who can be slotted into a victim’ category. SBI are not liberals, but hard-left radicals, who represent a highly destructive and regressive world- view.
We need to remember the past, and teach it, so we can learn from it, but these people want to AVENGE the past, on people living today, which is both destructive and INSANE!

Maybe this is a hot take, but I don't think white people should accept those anti white talking points anymore. I'm black, and you can see that reflected in my work and characters as I write what I know. But there's no concerted effort to exclude white people or prove that white people don't have to be represented in my work.
I must of gone wrong somewhere, but I actually beleived in MLK's speeches about judging people's character and not their skin. Crazy, right? That's obvious sarcasm in case you can't tell. Because of that I do not work to defeat "whiteness", and I'm tired of hearing people speak like white people are inherently something we have to defeat.
When MLK said: “I want my children judged, not by the color of their skin, but the content of their character,” he meant AS WELL AS white people, not INSTEAD of white people.
It's wild how quickly the mask comes off with the SBI folks. I think a lot of these types of consultants and devs are actually well-suited for the cozy type games. For example I don't care about the diverse hobbits in this new Tales of the Shire game, because yeah it's not lore accurate, but also it's an Animal Crossing type game and people should be able to customize their character to look like them if they want. The problem is definitely when things grind to a screeching halt in something like an action game, for the purpose of reminding me of an irrelevant belief I should have. Now I will say, SBI was involved with Alan Wake 2 but it is still a banger anyway, trust me. That game gets an unfair bad reputation from the "anti-woke" community. There's an interesting balance at play for sure.
Great video here Jay. Too many people talking about this topic are blatent grifters looking to push their narrative and have polarized this topic. This highlighted the issue with a lot of nuance and has changed my opinion.
