      Or maybe Justinas simply knows how long it takes to climb the part he's just ridden and that Ulrich has yet to climb... which gives him a pretty fair idea of how long he can afford sleeping before Ulrich gets there

    The new rout by Silver City is sad. Everyone is going to miss my parent’s toilets at “flushing meadows”.
    Those gravel roads are fairly fast, but get more washboarded the closer you get to the Tyrone Mine.

    As both leaders are approaching in very close proximity to each other, the delay in starting time will also be a factor. Justinas has about 1h4min less total time than Uba. The final stretch is fast riding, so Uba would need to get some 13-15 miles ahead of Justinas to win. I still believe he can do it...

    • @frkttt7231
      @frkttt7231 14 дней назад +2

      There's another thing most people commenting on here seem to be neglecting: how they manage their sleep. And if you take a close look at their race flow you ll see that since they slept in Platoro (around 3,5 hrs for both of them) Justinas stopped more often for power naps or longer sleep periods than Uba, and yet he's still ahead by 50 miles as I'm writing this comment. So he basically rested more while still managing to maintain his lead and even increasing it a bit. If you look at both their lines in the race flow tab, you can see that Justinas line is more vertical than Ulrich's (which means he's progressing faster) yet with more or longer flat / horizontal sections, which means he rested more.
      Focusing only on distance and neglecting all other data gives a wrong picture of the actual situation in the race

    • @TheNicnice
      @TheNicnice 14 дней назад

      that's wrong. they started at the same time. to me it looks like total time is the sum of run and rest, and those numbers are not 100% accurate!

    • @TorgeFischer
      @TorgeFischer 14 дней назад

      @@TheNicnice interesting. I assumed that the one hour difference has to be added. Also at the start, Justinas dot was not moving for a long time, but maybe it wasn't turned on. Is there anywhere to see who started in which group?

    • @TheNicnice
      @TheNicnice 14 дней назад +1

      @@TorgeFischer yes, must have been some tracker issues. looking at Justinas full history page you see the first ping at 08:24:02 AM at mi 16.6 - Ulrich tracked at 08:20:45 AM at mi 16.1. Would assume they were near together.

    • @egalegal2058

      @@frkttt7231 I don’t think that is correct. I examined all stops and Justinas has fewer hours of sleeping and napping. The more stoppage time is only due to a lot of 20-30 minute breaks for eating, getting water, seeking rain shelter or using the bathroom. Uba had no stops except for resuply and sleep until the technicial problems today. Also Justinas stopped more and longer for resuplies. The time for true rest was way higher on Uba‘s side.
      Even more impressive Justinas left Abiqui way ahead of Uba. I like the fact, that a more chaos driven strategy can be the winning one. It’s so said, we probably won’t get an interesting finish, because of Uba‘s technical problems.

    I'm totally subjective but it looks like LtD is riding way faster then the first two guys since he's been sleeping good hours during the night. If not mistaken his average speed has increased by a mile last two days. He could even get within 100 mile range of them. (75hrs doing 1 mile per hour faster= 75 miles).

    • @frkttt7231
      @frkttt7231 14 дней назад +1

      Yes you probably are totally subjective... to the point that you seem to be focusing only on speed and distance and overlooking all other data that might be as relevant and even more.
      Laurens reached Del Norte 26 hrs after Justinas, and crossed New Mexico border 28hrs after him( just an hour ago...) so he lost another 2 hrs on both Justinas and Ulrich.
      Let's see when he will reach Cuba...

    At this point just over 300 miles to go for JL with a long time since last rest. I wonder if he is just going for it from here. But there is a 70+ mile gap. Seems JL can rest safely for 3.5 hrs and still pull off a win. UB has no luxury.

    Is it a reliable tactic to be phoned by somebody at home when your adversary is waking up? Or the lack of service coverage makes it impossible? Is it even against the rules?

    • @Ignash
      @Ignash 14 дней назад +1

      We've seen before people having social media teams to send their pictures and write posts about the races so it could be a tactic. I don't think it is against the race, but probably pretty hard to do when you riding in the mountains with bad coverage like you said.
