I disagree. I feel like the original actors *weren’t* good at bringing emotion. In this scene, for example, Misato is supposed to be a bad ass. But, I feel like all Alison did was yell (maybe that’s why she sounded more lively to you?) which did *not* match with Misato’s face at all. I mean, if the original voice actors weren’t bad, Netflix would not have gotten new ones. I just feel like the people who like the original dub better only like it because of the nostalgia. Because to me, the original dub does *not* sound good. Especially in the rebuilds. They sounded so bad to me that for each movie, I had to change the dub back to it’s original language.

I don't see anyone else mentioning this, but one of my biggest gripes with the Netflix dub is that to me the dialogue sometimes feels a lot more like it was run straight through a translator, while the ADV dub takes a bit of liberty with the translated dialogue to make it sound more like actual english sentences. • @joelchale2525
      @joelchale2525 Год назад +7

Actually I think it's purposeful that it's "the 2nd children". The reason is because when rei was created, so were hundreds of bodies. Rei was called "The First Children" because there were many of her. When more children were found to pilot the Eva's, they were subsequently called "The 2nd/3rd Children" to be in line with their original naming of Rei as the First Children, and to cover up the existence of multiple Reis.

People going on about the "Mr Kaji" line is missing the important part of it,
relisten to the whole thing everyone says from Misato to Kaji
Misato is flat, there's no delivery there
Toji actually pulls off quiet horny
Shinji is breathless, he's obviously been running a lot
    Kaji sounds bored
And Asuka...I've heard more inflection from dogs when they're getting a meal than her.
This is just horrendous voice acting on every level.
Misato is presenting a confident front to the captain and needs to have confident emotion in her voice
    Toji is fine
Shinji needs to sound IMPRESSED, remember he lives with Misato and knows what she's like in every day life so seeing and hearing her put together and professional would be a shock for him
Kaji needs to sound aloof, a playboy Lothario as he's teasing Misato in this first scene
And Asuka....she is a horny teenager who sees the first guy she's got a crush on, and she would show that without ever realising it - she even blushes as she looks at him, she would have the inflection in her voice as she calls to him.
Guess who actually does the scene right? Oh yeah it's NOT Netflix, swear Netflix needs a wrangler on set for whatever they're doing or they end up making crap every time.

There's an argument to be made for both the Netflix and ADV dub, but I definitely prefer the ADV Misato, the Netflix one sounds way too serious at all times, which is fine later on, but the adv only sounds serious when she needs to be, which is way more suiting for her character imo.

Yeah, but the Japanese version sounds basically just like this though, so they were going for accuracy with the original Japanese over trying to match an old dub, that is probably not respected outside of the US fandom. Most likely, new fans would find the original dub very medocire by today's standards. It's understandable why Netflix would want to redhb the show. I do wish they included both dubs though, and would have gotten FAR less controversy if they gave people a choice.

Even with the whole “I like you” scene, that scene still implies to me that kaworu finds shinji attractive in the same way either way. I like the Netflix dub better. I’ll be damned. I think we were all just shitting on it years ago. I grew up off the old escaflowne dub too and although that dub’s decent I prefer the new one. The ADV dub from ‘96 was so far superior to the newer Netflix dub:
ADV was given some creative liberties by Gainax in regard to localization.
That’s what gave it character and flowed better imho
But, ADV was like 98% on point from the original Japanese script, so it’s a very honest to good adaptation and is one of my top 4 English dubs in Anime next to “Berserk”, “Cowboy Bebop”, “AKIRA”, “FLCL” and “Shin Chan”.
