The memory of learning to park a trailer is still so fresh, because it was one of the most stressful experiences I've ever had. The issue was the trainer was doing their best to explain, almost exactly like how it's shown here. But the language of getting under it, chasing it, telling me what I needed to do, made it so much worse. I just needed to feel and see for myself to grasp how it reacted and how to drive it back. The directions did nothing but confuse me. I imagine every person learns differently, but sometimes the best thing an instructor can do, is just spot for someone learning, to make sure they don't hit anything. Once I got out of training and was doing things myself, I backed like a boss.
I tell people and I maintain that backing is a skill like throwing a ball. You can tell someone how to throw a ball and explain it so that they completely understand it, but until they've actually DONE it they won't develop a feel for it. The more they practice the more they develop that skill.
Fu... "get under it" !!! Under what Di..Head !! drections "did nothing but confuse.." he should say, turn the st. wheel right or left... talk through walky talky.
I’ve had my CDL for 20 months only. And I totally agree with both of your comments. when I went through training the lingo just boggles my mind during backing instruction. Have a safe and great day!
I feel you on that ish, that is definitely the most stressful thing for a new Driver OMG, just gotta try and stay cool, keep that mfing trailer straight and you straight, if you need to jackknife it into some shitty lil dock made in the 1930's before they invented lightbulbs and they still don't have any, or they don't have any lines on the ground that is even more of a pain in the ass, but main thing is gotta stay cool, and watch the cats who know what they're doing, you can tell who there are we make the shit look too easy, lmao good luck out there yall!!!
Also it helps some drivers to stick their head out the window and see what the trailer is doin, you have to sometimes especially if its hella foggy or something just watch your head if your backing into an enclosed dock, some dudes even open the door so they can see where that line is if visibility aint sheet out there!!! Again good luck to yall!!!
Take your time and stay focus. Because it's never to late when God wake's you up to see another day. Stay bless ✌🏾.
Driver is overwhelmed. He is shutting down without even realizing it. It happens, but you gotta get past it. Or, you will not learn how to back your trailer. Amazing patience Junior
No it's the loud trainer that's the problem.....
Not to mention all the added pressure from all the truck drivers watching too
I been driving for 1 year but still struggling when someone is watching it has something to do with social anxiety I think
@@elyousfi5661 Never let someone rush you into an accident. Your CDL, your livelihood. And remember, always GOAL.
@@katashi222 You are the typical Stupid Super Trucker. He has to be heard over the loud engine he is next to the truck it's called doing his job and train. Go back to your Nintendo!
Hey man let me give you a tip. When my dad was teaching me how to back up, we would both have wireless earphones on, and he would tell me where I should turn the truck. All you gotta do is have two wireless earphones. One connected to your phone and one connected to the students phone. He would call me, and I would answer with my earphones and I would hear him very clearly. The distance, the trucks loud engine, the brake noise, would no longer matter, because I would clearly hear him from the earphones. Give it a shot, I'm sure it's going to make your life easy and the students
The instructor gives me anxiety 😅 😂 Parking your truck is the scariest part of being a new truck driver. 🚛
The level of patience this trainer has is incredible. Nothing against the trainee, but I could never keep my cool after all of that.
No offense to the trainee but he needs to pay attention and listen the trainer is awesome
Just watching this is just stressing me out!
Makes two of us😀
@@kiram4994 me 3 lol! I just want to get in the truck and do it myself lol. I could never train anyone, I have no patience
I'm fosho shiting bricks rn Too just got my permit and start trucking school tomorrow
god bless him, i would be stressed as hell....plus he has all these experience drivers watching him. i am so fascinated by trucking. I am an accountant and sit at a desk all day lol
You have a great point there. I don't think there are many truckers who are fascinated by accounting.
Everyone praises this instructor and his methods.
I think he micro manages too much every detail. He should let the students make mistakes as long as they don’t hurt or damage anything. For example let him park a bit crooked and maybe let him get out and check instead of telling him to get back in the truck when he was going to get out and look.
Everyone learns different and I wouldn’t have put up with this guys micro management for too long, it’s also the students fault if they don’t like it for not saying anything.
I had different style of instructors in my CDL school, some where harder than others but I’m glad none where like this guy on his demands.
Either way thanks for your videos and what you do to help drivers
Thank you and thanks for watching 👍🏽
Truck driving requires a lot of skill and a lot of confidence in those skills, but while you're learning it might seem impossible, you have to believe in yourself, good depth perception also comes in handy!!! This new driver needs to practice in the empty part of the truckstop, get that down, then try this, also make sure those tandems are slid back if you want to get into a tight spot, you'd be amazed how much it helps when you're trying to jack knife your truck in, good luck newbies!!!
What are tandems
@@MarcusTheTalented trailer axles
I have the ambition to learn in Canada
I know it's easy to get frustrated with the trainee but this can be a very stressful experience. When u feel like no matter what u do it's wrong, u want to do it perfectly but u just can't grasp it. The trainer is doing a great job not getting angry with him. I feel like the trainee doesn't quite get what he's being told just nodding his head and trying to fix it by himself. The fact he's surrounded by seasoned truck drivers is probably making him extra nervous but he must experience this. Because if when he's out there alone it will be like this and worse, hordes of cars honking and trying to get passed you
The best way is when your on your own u get experience .....u meed to mess up to realise what people tell u is truth
Hes getting pretty good and he did a decent job on backing and hes starting to understand the concept of how it works and all and keep up the great work yall have fun and be safe out there god bless and see yall next video
I don’t drive anymore I’m in my 70’s now but I wish you were my instructor when I was learning how to drive. You are a very good instructor. Keep up the good work.
Unless medical issues stopped you, never let age discourage you man. We got a guy running local who is 82!
Thanks to both the trainer & trainee for making this very educational video. God bless you both.
Great detail in your training. You broke it down by stearing direction, trailer movement, and position. I wish my trainer at the time had your patience and consideration, but I appreciate what I learned. Keep your videos coming; they're a great resource for those who are learning the trade and those who want to refresh their skills.
Being able to back into that spot and telling someone who is learning HOW to do it are two completely different things. Enjoyed watching and learned it's all about reference points. Nice video Junior 👍
Brother ive had my CDL for 10 years but only done crane and rigging work. Im learning stuff watching your videos i thought I already knew. Keep up the good work.
Your such a patient and communicative teacher. I hope I get someone like you man
Been watching your videos since yesterday. You seem like an extremely patient and thorough trainer. Wish I lived out where your school is
Increíble tu paciencia...incredible your patience..keep up the good work.
Awesome instructions Junior! He will be great...
I really appreciate you watching and thank you 👍
I didnt learn a thing but it cracked me up
I like your spanglish classes. Gracias por ayudar a los nuestros. Suerte en la carretera.
This trainer is one of the most patient guys I've ever seen. I would have been going 🤯
Good job, u are truly a patient man.
Junior, you are a great teacher!! And your english is very good. Tienes mucha paciencia y eso se valora mucho!!
I once had a guy pop out his truck at midnight to tell me my clearance while parking at a truck stop in Fairburn GA. I was following his instructions to keep going when I hear the sound of metal collide. Good thing I was going real slow, I winded up hitting the chrome cover of a drivers side smoke stack. Driver I hit was about to call the police when I persuaded him with $200.00 dollars to let it go. Lesson learned, DON'T TRUST ANYONE WHEN BACKING UP AT A TRUCK STOP, ALWAYS GET OFF AND LOOK!!!
Yeah, I used to be a yard jock and we are kinda unorthodox with backing. Of course, the sleeper is a different beast. But once I went otr, my instructors said I backed up better than them, and was sure I be just fine backing. But many times guys pop out at truck stops to assist, and it isn't needed. Some are actually irritating and distracting. So yeah, take your time and get out
GOAL GOAL GOAL I live by this motto everyday
TRAILBLAZER get out and look
THIS! NEver stop G O A L, no matter how easy it looks, and how long you've been driving! seen so many accidents, on "easy" backs, cause people don't GOAL.
Means Get Out And Look...
Great Teacher Man... This Video Was MUCH Needed!!!
Junior is a blessing, thanks for making this videos
I need to show this video to my FM next time he asks me why I don't want to be a trainer. I have no patience for this. Bless you junior.
Good training. Good practice. Nice work to both 👍🏾
Jr u got soo much patience I learn the hard way
Just with his patience and good clear instructions I think I wanna go to prime. Good job to both of you guys can't wait to get my cdl
Junior is a great trainer! 👍
Junior, you should buy a couple of small hand held cb radios or inexpensive walkie talkies to instruct your students while you’re outside the truck so you wouldn’t have to struggle with being heard over the noise level.
I was thinking about the same thing, a radio is definitely a great idea.
Good stuff Junior- Im in the process of getting my CDL. Good explanation of backing. Subscribing NOW. The pressure was present but you have to think BIGGER than the problem of (how to). I am excited when I get my chance, respectfully. Nice job on the driver by staying focused and NOT GIVING UP.
Thanks for subscribing and for watching the video 👍🏽
Always when backing up and feathering the clutch (keep your heel on the floor) if you can. When you just have your foot on clutch and your heel is not on the floor, that's when you jump the clutch and truck bounces. With your heel on the floor you have more control of the clutch, taking that jumping crap out of the truck!!
if only I was the one who took part in learning like that.. maybe I would be very proud.. you gave a very perfect theoretical and practical lesson...
Hoy si Papa , you are the best trainer or mentor !!! Elbow to Elbow , dele una pupusa con chorizo para calmar los nervios !!! De la primera semana , Abrazoooo y saludos a los dos !!!! Be safe , Keep humble !!!!
You are very professional teacher thank u
you're so patient. nice one.
Been driving CDL 4 years now, 22 years driving total (Class 5, Motorcycle, Race Cars etc etc). O/O who does 53'ft Van LTL work. I would love to do backing practice with Junior, and see what I might be doing wrong or could do better.
Great instructor...
I remember doses days of training to back up, solo a cuerdate q todo mejora con tiempo suerte
RUclips best training truck teacher
Awesome learning video. Make more, please.
I'm 51 years old and starting class Nov 4th
A year l8r how are you doing
Good luck man, hopefully it works out for you!!!
Don't worry you'll make it. The trucking industry is desperate for drivers. You'll get your CDL.
The only downside is that in the beginning the pay is pure garbage and the treatment from ANY of these Mega Carriers is horrendous.
They will pay you less than an Uber Driver and treat you like trash. SO BE PREPARED!!!
Forgot to mention also that driving in the Real World is terrifying until you understand the relationship of the tractor trailer to its surrounding area and location.
My journey was what I described. After two years I am finally seeing the light. I make 1500 to 2000 a week, work when I want to and pick routes.
@@failyourwaytothetop what company do you work for sir?
@@failyourwaytothetop I drive for Pam transport.
Creatively finding ways to explain to him how to do it 👍
Como siempre jr ,el mejor instructor de prime
I start school here in a month pray to god my instructor is not like you. Bet he would have it in faster if you weren’t there
Sending so much mixed emotions. Giving me anxiety just watching smh
Thank you and thanks for watching 👍🏽
On the brighter side you’re getting your cardio in Junior. Saludos de California hermano
Junior saludos desde NY man u r doing a very good job I can see you enjoy your job as an instructor como latinos q somos yo tambien disfruto enseńando cuamdo tengo algo para enseńar y veo alguien quiere aprender o necesita ayuda!!!
Sir you are a great instructor
Jr I love how patient and calm you are with all your student drivers. I am student myself, just waiting on the truck I have been training in to be repaired so I can do my drive test. I have been leaning towards Swift as my 1st gig but watching your vidz I want you as a mentor! Does Prime pay for college? If so do they provide the laptop and Wi-Fi access while in classes? And does Prime anything similar to Swifts "comfort zone" routes? What drone do you use to record videos?
My tio drives down in Honduras 🇭🇳 from SPS (San Pedro Sula), Tegucigalpa, Puerto Cortes, and El Salvador. The furthest he’s driven is to the capital of Nicaragua. Mad respect for what y’all do, much love from Charlotte, NC puro katracho. 🇭🇳
Dam! This dude is a good teacher!
My favorite Instructor
Perfect trainer positive where you are
You a great trainer man
JR U DA BEST TRAINER GOD BLESS U
Great teaching bro...Wish you had been my trainer
The way of teaching I like that
¿Quien dijo Miedo?😱 The other driver in the blue truck was scared as hell!☠ Good job Junior. Breaka' 1-9. SMOKEY ON TOP OF THE HILL AT MILE MARKER 153. FOURWHEELER ON MY TAIL
Many years ago when I started driving I learned to back a trailer by coming into the yard, dropping the trailer and then getting an empty and spending an hour backing into holes preferably with a flatbed. With an empty flatbed you can see everything that trailer is doing.
Very hard to teach guys like this
Great trainer forsure
God Bless. Def got a lot of patience.
He backing without looking and smiling at the same time 😂😂😂
Man I give u Props you have patience
I need this teaching!!! I need help with my straight back too.
I can really feel the frustration both sides here. I hope they have amazing pay for trainers, respect all the way Junior. My trainer was great as well.
I had come off the road due to personal reasons about 5,000 miles into TNT phase, but now things have changed and am thinking about coming back. I will be going tanker though as I live in PA, but will definitely mention your name on the application.
Stay safe out there.
I love your patience with him. When I got off the truck wit my trainer I didn't know $*!+... He was to busy doing everything but training me 😤
He needs to learn to drive before he learns to back up. I don't think he has proper control over his motor to begin with.
Nothing but a rolling slow pokes Prime
Good job my G
what a patient strict master😁
Good teaching video.
Like my big bro who has been driving for 28 years now said everyone can drive forward with an truck and trailer but when it comes to backing that’s when people around you will realize if that driver behind the wheel is a pro or a rookie bcuz one hit at the truck stop will give a driver night mess thru out the night.
I can only hope that in my training this week that my trainer is as thorough & patient as you are! 🤘🏼😎#backingsucks🤦🏻♀️
He is a great instructor.
Thank you very much and thanks for watching 👍🏽
My trainer doesn't tell me anything. He sleeps every time I'm at the wheel. I definitely wish I had a trainer like you.
Sleep!!! WTF!!! Should be fired😂🤣😅😔😴
just like mine. just lying down at the sleeper 😂
Tu que si tienes paciensia brother !!!! Encerio que si !!!!
That was me blowing the horn!!!.. lol. Lookin good drivers. Be safe
Ohhhhh okay niceeee man. You be safe out there 🇭🇳👍🏽😎👍🏽🇭🇳
First though was “jeez. I cut him off and didn’t see him”.
@@semiza lol.. sorry bud!..
Mans lycky, my first ever unsupervised back wit switch i had to drop angled at 45 on the pass out from under the trailer hahah mentor looked up and went wtf😂😂 parallel parked in the hole and go to go boiii
I am doing this park 45 degree less than 3 min, but I never forget how hard was that in beginning time
I love your video Junior.I`m in truck school now and things are sure different than they were 31 years ago. That`s good though I`m not complaining. Be Safe, Stay Safe! You are a great instructor. I speak Spanish also. Yo hablo Espanol. ? Quien Dijo Miedo? Who said fear? I love it!
Muchisimas gracias y asi es quien dijo miedo pues. Hay que darle duro a esto y para delante 🇭🇳👍🏽😎👍🏽🇭🇳 Gracias por ver el video
I’m gonna dread doing this!!!!
Good Lord
You will be good just anticipate your moves and get out and look 👍🏽

siempre encontraemos gente linda, caritativa que conocen el problema,ya que an pasado por ese mismo nervio,,,sabemos que los maestros comienzan por os minimos erros,,que Dios los bendiga por ayudar al projimo..
Hey Junior! Maybe a two-way radio would be helpful while you're outside of the truck.
Thank you but I'll keep doing it this way to make sure they understand what I'm asking them to do. TNT phase maybe definitely not PSD phase of training. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍
@@JuniorHonduras totally understand my brother, that's why you're the trainer.
Thanks for putting up this video, it really helped me a lot. I am still in the process. You definitely are a good mentor.
If they had a two way they would depend too much on instructor to think for them, he is training exactly how it should be done. Over 30 years driving, now i teach truck driving at community college and love watching Juniors videos!!👀👍👍👍👍
I agree. It's the best way to train.
I drove for 35 years and man you have got me messed up here....lol... I can only imagine how your student feels about now..You do a great job as a trainer. I tried to be a trainer I just was not cut out for it.
Good teaching
This trainer very be patient and very nice!!! That is student driver needed. Currently Im learning I hope my trainer is like that. Is there Texas?
I wish i had a trainer like that. My first day was solo. I had my heart in my stomach. But i figured it out
Glad you're doing better now and thank you for watching the videos 👍🏽
I took my test today and boomed that alley dock! 😢
Dang. I wish you good luck on your next try and keep at it. Practice more than yesterday 👍🏽
I'd hate to be the sleeping driver in the red truck lmao, great teaching tho!
This is definitely a struggle for me I hope I can get it soon it is so frustrating 🤦🏾♀️
