Thank you very much for your video! I'm an adult learner, and you break it down very well. I'm intimidated by music theory and note reading but I feel a little better now.
Going to start tomorrow. I just watched your first lesson, and I love how you teach. You’re very approachable and not cold and intimidating. I look forward to learning the violin with you! I’ve had it for five years now, and I need to learn how to play. Something I’ve wanted to learn my entire adult life.
I have always wanted to play violin, but my father encouraged me to pick up a guitar instead. At the beginning of lockdown, I decided that given the time I had I would purchase a violin and finally give it a go. I have a good understanding of music theory and the scale shapes a violin requires (my primary guitar is actually even tuned FCGDAE), so thought I could relatively easily teach myself with the aid of a "first frets" sticker. And until half an hour ago, I thought I'd managed quite well for only a couple of months progress. But having watched your video, I realise how wrong I was. A couple of simple adjustments to my left hand technique that your video has highlighted and my intonation is instantly much, much better than the "first frets" sticker could ever have made it, and it has now been unceremoniusly removed. Plus, your style is so pleasant and simple to follow. I thank you for making these videos, and I shall look forward to watching the rest.
There are teachers who use the Suzuki Books but are not certified as a Suzuki teacher using the Suzuki method. Somebody who is associated with Suzuki usually doesn't teach reading music from day 1. The Suzuki approach is based on how we acquire our mother-tongue. We'd imitate the sounds of a language before learning to read & write. A Suzuki teacher would get the students to play the "Twinkle Variations" and all the songs in Book 1 by ear before being introduced to music notations.
yes, i totally agree with you. yet, as a beginner on violin i believe some beginner level theory lessons are quite essential. first lessons should be just trying to hold the bow and imitate what you hear from the ear, but after first couple songs students need a teacher who can easily explain the basic theory behind it. i could not find any other beginner theory lessons on youtube so i think this chanel is also beneficial
I recently picked up the violin. Glad i found this channel and hoping to learn by watching. 👀 I think the way you teach it will work quite well for me so im excited!
Thank you Amber. This is the best tutorial for me. I absolutely enjoyed every moment.. You have a wonderful happy style of teaching. I know I am going to succeed because of YOU.
Thank you so much for making this tutorial this does helps a lot. Can't appreciate you anymore. Please do go on with these awesome videos. Best wishes Tina
Good morning I am left handed so silly question: those notes on board along the string are the opposite for me but same right? Again I am left handed violin and viola. Just saw you Jan 12th and today writing you Jan 13th very excellent and positive videos saw far I seen thanks. It's kind of confusing where to place as I am trying to follow what you writing? Have a good day and await your response?
Hello, I'm a violin and viola teacher myself and I have met many left handed students! :) No worries, it absolutely doesn't matter, as you use both hands when playing and you can teach each hand their specific jobs until you get comfortable
Been watching your videos like forever I really like you and how you teach has motivated me to buy my own but I’m a bit hopeless because I don’t know which one to get as a beginner please help
There was once a first grade teacher that told her students on the first day of school that she will never leave a student behind because she always started at the beginning. She proceeded by asking her students what 1+1=, there was complete silence, until one little girl raised her hand and said what's a one.
@@ViolinViolaMasterclass thanks....♥️...back to watching your learn to play violin videos..just want to say "thank you!" for your time and patience, and wish you and family an amazing new year...🎊🎉🎊🎉♥️♥️♥️
If you were my teacher in school I would have been so happy. My teacher never washed her blouses 👚 😂 and they were a yucky ring stained mess and my fellow orchestra members actually quick her classes. Thank you so very much for your help, time and ceaselessly generous with all you know dear teacher🙃😅🤩
@@ViolinViolaMasterclass I promise to learn everything you teach me and then conveniently fail to always be in school with my most glorious violin teacher ever
Edward Kreitman Hi Edward😃🎻thank you so much for watching! It’s not the Suzuki method, you’re totally right. I’m just using Suzuki book 1 as the repertoire book☺️
Yea, you're right!!!!... but she is only explain distance sounds "like" if you play from 'do' to 're' there is one step, same like 're' to 'mi' but, 'mi' to 'fa' there is only 'half step'.... in this case, playing on 'La' string, real notes are like you say... 0=La.. finger 1=Si... finger 2=Do#... finger 3= Re... finger 4= Mi (or could be with 'E' string=0)... 0=no finger on string**
Love your videos. I am just not a fan of the Suzuki method. Too focused on children and not adults. I know that everyone uses it as a benchmark even orchestras. I want adult violin method designed for adults not children.
I would start on book 1 . It has all kinds of benefits even for adults intonation and rhythm and finger flexibility and tone ...the books have technical work attached .....Enabling you to progress faster ,to play faster ....its a proven method then book 2 and 3 ...they are classical pieces ....you can use other music when confident such as Dvorak Humouresque Gossec Gavotte , Bach pieces Vivaldi pieces . Joshua Bell , Janine Janzen and Sarah Chang and most concertmasters today commenced with this ... pieces such as Meditation by Thais and the popular miniatures can follow . its a method but if you listen with recordings in the background daily the music is internalized listen in the car ...it does work .......reading music should be easy for an adult and their is a book corresponding to this by Martin for learning to read the music .
I am a returning to violin as an adult. It is a little humbling to be going back to these Suzuki books , which I always associated with children. So I definitely know what you mean!!
I'm confused... Is this for viola as well, because your not talking about alto clef?
I'm going back to the basics, the best and simplest virtual class that one can go to learn violin with dedication

Can I just ask....what's the reason for upside down quarter notes?
