Imo, the origins of vr goes back a lot further. All vr relies on the 3d effect that's produced by stereoscopic images, which was discovered mid 1800s.
I love collecting and viewing 100-150 year old 3d pictures, the home entertainment system of the wealthy before motion pictures were invented.
