  • Shopkeepers in games exist to sell you useful items and buy haunted dolls you don’t want to keep in your inventory. Should you break this contract and steal from an in-game shopkeeper, though, beware: some are waiting for just such an opportunity to flip out and go ham on your stupid unprepared face with more ferocity and firepower than many an actual boss.

If that doesn't count, there is the unassuming local guy watching the self service stand in Earthbound's Happy Happy Village. Not a power house, but given that it was a pain to get to the town, if you die to him or the painters there and you didn't save at the store, you're going to have to go back through the valley again. This guy is a pain in the butt. He can freeze time, teleport about, and generally make survival aggravating even if you're already so powerful you can delete anything else around you. Another not mentioned aspect of the Crypt of the Necrodancer merchant is that if you do kill him, he won't show up ever again on any subsequent areas for that run, and two areas after the one you kill it in, you will be chased by its ghost. It only has 1HP, goes through walls and moves the same as the original, but you get an achievement for killing him (the ghost, you get no achievement for killing the shopkeeper)

    • @shawnfields2369
      @shawnfields2369 2 года назад +1

Then, DON'T, and I repeat, DON'T steal from the Kecleon Bros. Shop! It's basically like signing your own death warrant right then and there! Also, them multiplying like rabbits, while it is horrifying, along with the whole chasing you relentlessly until you escape the current floor, which sounds like something out of a Pokémon themed horror movie, if you just don't steal from them in the first place, then you can avoid the entire problem! But I do still agree, while stealing from them does turn Pokémon Mystery Dungeon into a horror themed game, with appropriately scary themed music, it is actually possible to beat the Kecleon, and even recruit the shopkeeper. But it's something I've never been able to do, because the only way to even get them to join you is by somehow beating them by either stealing from them and then having to either survive the horrifying rush of Kecleon trying to murder you and your partner Pokémon, and/or the rest of your team, and Kecleon are pretty much the STRONGEST Pokémon in the game, with an 00.1% recruitment rate, which according to another comment, Is even lower than the Legendary Pokémon themselves. And I don't even like Kecleon. But just don't steal from them, and you'll be alright, dude. But Kecleon is most definitely the most horrifying Pokémon in the Mystery Dungeon series. Geez, why wasn't Kecleon a Legendary, if it's recruitment rate was so low, and it's speed Stat was maxed out. Geez, they REALLY wanted to punish Pokémon for stealing, didn't they? Went a bit overboard, I'd say... a simple slap on the wrist would've been enough, not trying to murder us because we may have "accidentally"(maybe, maybe not), stole something. Wasn't us taking said item without paying punishment enough? You didn't have to play scary music, and send your brothers and sisters after me and my Pokémon team; just for taking the ONE item! Holy Crap! And this is why I never steal from any shopkeepers in any games. Because I've seen the horrific experiences me and my fellow Pokémon have had with stealing from the Kecleon shop, and the terrifying music that plays. But if you do steal, make sure you use an Escape Orb or whichever item and get out of there, if you have to steal something, I mean.

To be fair, I can't fault the barkeep in BioShock Infinite since you're supposed to be helping them at that point. He's not the only one who gets pissed if you steal or go where you shouldn't. There's a shopkeeper up in the Soldier's Field (I think) area and if you steal there you start that fight early. Same with the area in Shantytown (that bit of Finkton y'all were in) near the bar. If you walk past the guys standing around a table to get the infusion (I think it's an infusion there), they also get mad and start shooting. If you do that before the bar area, then that makes them hostile before you even get there. Considering that there's friendly fire when helping the Vox, I usually end up attacked no matter what I have or haven't done. I make heavy use of the Murder of Crows vigor, but as a result, the still-flying crows on return from Shantytown will attack the Vox and then the game reprimands me for attacking my allies. 1) they weren't there when I used that vigor the first time on the Columbia security forces. 2) they walked into said flying crows on their own. 3) you could make the crows dissipate when I leave the area. 4) maybe don't let my attacks harm my allies then. Oh, and 5) those crows shouldn't even be there still since I went through a tear in a different Columbia; or was it just the machinery disappearing that changed? Pretty sure it's a different Columbia entirely given what Elizabeth says about it Given that there are absolutely no consequences for killing in the game and by the end of the game everyone and their mother is trying to kill me, I don't feel too bad when fights kick off early because I needed ammo, salts, health, and/or money.
I finished my 5th (I think) run of Infinite not long ago, and this vid makes me want to start a 6th run. I'm glad y'all used the music from when Elizabeth shows Booker the doors and all. It's my favorite bit of music from the game.
Edit: I wouldn't say I wouldn't want to steal from the Infinite shopkeepers because they get violent. I mean, they do, but they cause nowhere near the trouble most of the rest on this list do. Easy enough to shoot everyone coming at you and they don't respawn.

the trick is to buy stuff by talking with him WITHOUT leaving the shop area, therefore you don't steal and can just put the items back on the ground

Fun fact: The shopkeeper's actual canon name in Crypt of the Necrodancer is Freddy Merchantry. This game, man...

Man, I love the Emile fight.
Mostly because the ending to the quest chain had me in tears after playing the original Nier and I remember Emile’s sacrifice.

How could you leave out the shopkeeper from One Step from Eden? Hit her once and you are in for the hardest challenge the game has to offer

Nobody ever talks about the shopkeepers in Skyrim...where they throw some fire or electricity at you if they just so happen to spot you taking something without talking to them to buy...

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (any version) Kecleon chases after you if you steal from them in the dungeon and they're almost always a OHKO. And if they do knock you out you lose ALL of your inventory.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon’s dungeon shopkeepers. I once put one item down on their shop and then picked it back up after getting rid of something else… I don’t think I made it to the exit.
They are relentless and will chase you through levels iirc. So you better have an escape rope or a death wish.

Thankfully they only chase you on the floor you're currently on. Pure seeds are a god send for try to steal from them

Just clicking on this video now but I’m going to hope Kecleon from all the Mystery Dungeons games is on this list.
Edit: Watched it now and am very surprised they weren’t mentioned

Don't worry, with the amount of people commenting about it, it will most likely get put in the commenter's edition.

Don't forget One Step From Eden's shopkeeper. No way to steal from her, but she'll end you real quick if you damage her.

I'm so glad that the shopkeeper from Link's Awakening was not only on this list, but the first mentioned.
