Thanks for watching my video! Recently, WinX DVD Ripper Platinum approached to me, and sponsored this text link to offer you an alternative to copying DVDs to MP4 in 2023. It’s beginner-friendly and converts a 2-hour DVD with just around 10 minutes. Fairly speaking, that’s pretty fast! You may learn more about it here: www.winxdvd.com/dvd-ripper-platinum/?ttref=21ytbdrp-KT-may-p
I‘ll probably try it soon...one question by the way: is the mp4 big ? I mean, yeah it depends on the size of the movie but can you say in general, how big it is ?
I just want to say not only thank you but that I have watched 100's of thousands of tutorials through the years and you're teaching voice/tone and speed is PERFECT!
You're brilliant - even I managed to do this and my talents don't lie in the techy department. Thanks for making it so easy. You're a brilliant teacher. X
If anyone's worried about the age of this video, this method still worked perfectly for me in 2019 yes in 2019 . I really appreciate your hard work . Thank you! This method is working in 2019 Thank you .
After reading a number of things and then downloading a few programs, that didn't work - I came across this. Your step by step instructions were wonderful and changed 2 DVDs to be able to play in my Samsung! Thank you very much for your very clear/precise help.
My mom had a bunch of my childhood videos converted from VHS tapes to a CD, this is honestly the best tutorial out there because now i have allll those vids on my iphone! :)
you mean to a DVD? keep in mind when you do photos don't do a video/picture CD, always do a DVD, like at CVS. picture Cds can be tricky and not play in some DVD players. on your phone? now you have to transfer those, and just hope you don't lose your phone ( that's happened to people before )
Nicely done, thank you for not speeding through the demonstration like many do. Following the steps was simple and straightforward. Ripped a DVD first time with no problems, Very pleased with the output quality. I used DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 & Handbrake 0.9.9.1
I spent almost a day trying to get Handbrake to work, without success. Then I found your video and found I needed to use DVD Decrypter first, even though my DVD was my own home movies and not encrypted. Following your instructions the conversion worked first time. Many, many thanks!
thank you SO much for this video!! i was having trouble getting my dvd’s to play in my laptop for editing, but you saved me!! this still works in may of 2020 :-)
Wow, probably the best instructional video I've ever viewed. Very clear step-by-step instructions and solid editing for a smooth and seamless video. I really like how you zoom in and out of the areas of interest opposed to static image of your entire screen the whole time. Others should take notes.
Hang on but this guy is competent, huh? Every step clear and uncluttered and explained. Keeps the pace moving, no useless conversational sidetracking. About 10,000,000 youtubers could learn from this guy concerning instructional delivery. Great job.
I had both downloads within 5 minutes. I then played the video and paused it after each action. I had my DVD converted to MP4 in less than 10 minutes, so easy. Brilliant, thanks for the tutorial.
3,88 GB for a MP4 is really too BIG.. even the encoding time of only 10 min results in crap.. Set bitrate for dvd from 1500 to 1800 kbps in stead of that RF quality line, appending on what movie it is (the more action there is in it, the more kbps it will need) Enable 2-pass encoding and sett he encode speed to 'Slower'.. Also use High Profile, level 4.1.. For a regular dvd (playing time 01:30:00) it will take +/- 2 hours for encoding (core i7-4770K@3,5GHz) The MP4 is around 1,1 GB (720x576/480) PAL/NTSC and the quality is GREAT! :) Don't resize to 400p or even smaller, (Use Anamorphic LOOSE)
Unbelievable! Almost 5 years after you posted this video, it works perfectly! Very well made, everything was exactly as you described it! Thank you so much! You saved me a lot of work!
Thanks so much. This will allow me to post an interview of my father for a WW2 veterans project to facebook so all the family can see it. He was 89 at the time of the video and passed last year at 94. Your help is truly appreciated!
Thank you!!! I totally love and appreciate how you walked through the entire process and covered every single step. You idiot proofed the whole process! Again, thank you!!!
This still worked for me in 2024, although I'm using old 2014 computer with old programs. One DVD would not convert, so I downloaded trial version of DVDFab. Other DVDs converted fine using this process. Many thanks!
June 2024. I only needed Handbrake, worked great. Even used a old version for my Windows 7 computer. My project was converting old home movies from VHS to DVD on an old dvd player. The DVD has the VOB files already on it. I used Handbrake to convert VOB to MP4 and then gave the MP4s to all the family members.
Eternally grateful. Works like a charm. Note for Windows 10 people, I did the download for Handbrake directly from their site cuz i got an error when i tried the link below. Just make sure you do it from the Handbrake site - it was free. A guy wanted to charge me $15/DVD (& i have 40 of them to do), so just saved $750 easily by doing it myself. THANKS.
Thanks for this video! Love that I can put the kids DVD's onto devices without having to buy a program! Have already spent enough buying the DVD's in the first place. Thanks for your help :)
SOOOO helpful. Took me forever, step by small step but I was successful, Slow and clear and amazing to finally get this done. I've been struggling with it forever. Last video converter I spent 2 hours on, only to realize that they gave me only 5 minutes of conversion unless I paid. So grateful!
This is great. I never had the need to convert a dvd till now. I found this video - 5 years after it was posted and it still worked perfectly. Thanks for posting. Also, I watched a few others like this but yours was by far the easiest to follow. Thanks again.
Still works in 2021. I was able to convert my old HS recordings from 94-2003 into DVDs with a VHS converter and now thanks to him I can convert them into mp4 files, so thanks! My memories are saved forever.
Still works in March 2023. Only needed to download the HandBrake application, which has been upgraded to not need the decrypter program anymore. Anyway it worked fine for me to change a 7 minute DVD Slideshow over to an MP4 complete with music synched and no combing. Using the video setting of 15 still was a good choice as well. Great video! Thanks KaptainTech!
It works, but I'm unable to copy multiple episodes on my DVD collections. It's only doing the first episode of each DVD. Is there away to select all of the episodes at once for conversion?
This is terrific! Not sure if Handbrake was updated since you published this but I skipped the Decrypter step and just downloaded Handbrake. I selected my DVD drive as the source, followed your guidance on the settings and let 'er rip! Worked like a charm. Thanks for taking the time to create this!
LOL. The same happened to me too as I was trying to rip a handmade DVD containing old family movies. This tutorial is just good to rip official movies DVDs! XD What I did to solve my problem is to open my handmade DVD straight from my PC, I copied and pasted the different parts on my HD and I assembled them thanks to Windows Live Movie Maker, a software I got free when I bought my PC. I uploaded the whole thing here on RUclips (semi-private link), which converted it into MP4 by itself.
Thanks for a great video. A couple of improvements: (1) In DVD Decrypter, while in Tools/Settings/IFO Mode, under Create Additional Files deselect "Stream Information" and you'll only get one superfluous file rather than two, and (2) in Handbrake under the Video Filters tab I set Decomb to "Default" to get rid of the horizontal white lines seen during motion, aka combing. Thanks again for a great video.
Review as on 6 November 2019 - I need to convert a DVD containing 2.4 GB data on it, It took me a little less than 5 minutes to copy and exact 10 minutes to convert it ( quality RF 15 as mentioned in video). Final size of the file was 2.1 GB. I was using windows 10, i3 7th generation laptop with 4 GB RAM on it, so time may vary for you according to ur computer. Video dimension was 720*576 on DVD and final file as well. I would give 10/10 score to DVD Decrypter , and 9/10 to converter because I saw little pixel blur at some places at RF 15 quality in the final file. But it was in acceptable range. So you can go for it . It is good work done by the uploader.
Captain Tech, I want to thank you for this video! Following your video word by word and step by step, I was able to convert a DVD for my wife. I am not often able to impress her, but I was tonight!! Thanks so much for your help!
Worked like a charm.... turned a 3.65gb VOB file to 608mb MP4 file and quality is just as great as it is from the store bought DVD by using the default(20) setting in handbrake.
Just what I've been looking for!!!! Best part all FREE programs!!! Now I can have a digital backup of my 200+ DVD that I've acquired since the 90's. THANK YOU!
Great work Captan Tech. Well-developed, easy to see, good pace to follow, circling the curser on the selection before selecting, and many more useful techniques makes this video a high standard to follow for the rest. Many thanks!
Needed to convert some home DVDs to MP4 for RUclips! Even though your video was uploaded back in 2012, still works like a charm in June, 2019! Thanks man! Found your easy instructions after downloading three other programs that didn't work!
It works! Batching (first application) was quick. Converting (second application) took some time but is well worth it, given the fact that I can store my DVD collection on my external hard drive in case the DVDs get scratched up or broken over time. Thank You uploader!!!

I want to thank you so much for this easy to follow and workable video. I spent about 3 days researching how to convert a dvd that youtube or fb would accept. THANK YOU AGAIN!
This video was excellent and well instructed. Clear and concise. I did two dvd's in no time from slide shows i did 12 years ago. Now in Mp4 format thanks to you KAPTAIN !
I have seen many tutorials but this one was one of the best and so easy to understand. Not only that; it was also done very professionally. Thank you very much. I hope you have many other lessons for a novice like.
For sure, Decrypter is now essentially a legacy tool but usually still works OK. Some users may encounter a reluctance on its part to shut down after using. The workaround to this is to run it as administrator. So, if you have it as an icon on your desktop, right-click on it and then left-click on "Run as administrator" in the pop-up menu.
OMG THANK YOU!!!!!! it works. it really works. iv been looking for a way to copy my dvds to my computer and get them to mp4. I got 30+ movies I want to take with me on a long ass trip. but I don't want to carry all of them dvds. my man you just saved my sanity.
This was a FANTASTIC easy to follow video. I am in the process of waiting for the video to convert to MP4. Had a little hick up when downloading the Handbrake software. It had some type of error, but I just x'd out and continued to use it. I'll let you know if it worked....LOL. Thanks for a GREAT video. Just what I was looking for. You couldn't have made it any more clear step by step.
This worked for us. However, the RF:0 setting [lossless] highest quality in Handbrake renders an .mp4 that is completely garbled. We had to experiment and nudge it back until we finally got a clean rendering at RF:5. There is a definite loss of quality in this process [we were hoping "lossless" would be just that but sadly not the case]. The .mp4 came out darker and less defined [not as sharp] - but - all in all terrific with the price being zero. Thank you VERY MUCH KaptainTech, nonetheless. One of the best instructive vids we ever seen.
Only way that works have checked many of times. Still works in April 2020. Good think to do while you are stuck in your house due to COVID-19. Just as a heads up when. Downloading DVD decrypter make sure you click download on the download link for the application and not an advertisement.
This worked great -- thank you. Though some of the fields in the necessary software have changed a bit since this video was made, the directions still work in 2021 -- Really appreciate the video!
OMG! This is fantastic! I was quoted over $200 to have 10 home movies converted to MP4. Reason for wanting to do so was to pass them on to my brother as he lost all his in a house fire so thank you so much. PS this is so NOT out of date (30/9/19) oh and also, I'm not even tech savvy, I'm basically an idiot ;)
I appreciate your instruction Kaptain Tech. I used the apps, and followed your intruction and now I am copying my dvd collection, putting them on external hard drive to look at when I am in my truck. I wish you had a video for converting mkv files to mp4 or avi files
Worked great as of 10/2018 on Win 10 Pro, Ver 1803. DVD Decrypter ended in an error, but the three files (txt, Info, and Vob) were on the desktop after cancelling out of DVD Decrypter. Continuing with HandBreak as directed resulted in success! Thanks

Still going strong in 2021! Ready for some Christmas movies!
Step by step detail explanation. The link provided all need software. Absolutely a super job, not to mention the video itself is in great quality.
April 2020, this method still works! thank you

I appreciate your instruction Kaptain Tech. I used the apps, and followed your intruction and now I am copying my dvd collection, putting them on external hard drive to look at when I am in my truck. I wish you had a video for converting mkv files to mp4 or avi files
This worked!!!! Awesome, I totally forgot about dvd decrypted, haven't seen that s/w in years. Thankyou
It works. Thanks so much!
For VCD: Just copy the .DAT file to the computer and use handbrake convert to mp4.
Awesome. Is refreshing to see people posting stuff that really works.
Thank you so very much. This was the best set of instruction. I was very successful in converting my DVD. Thanks for being here on YOU TUBE
Excellent "How To" video. The step by step instructions are flawless.
Thanks
