In this short video i show you how easy it is to Rip a DVD to your PC with VLC Хобби
To the point, effective, complete, simplistic, no loud....or any back ground music, nice tutorial video. Bravo, we commend you.
thank you very much
Have to agree, no fluff, no stupid introduction, just good common
sense and a very good tutorial. Cheers.
THREE TIPS: #1 When you choose the Convert Profile, you might notice there is an h264 and an h265. In particular, on Windows, the VLC font is very small so it's hard to see the difference. Be sure you pick the h264 or you may only get audio... like I did. #2 Don't be a mullet like me and click off the No Disc Menus box. It must be checked or VLC will continue converting until the end of time. I really need to pay closer attention to these tutorials. #3 At the bottom of the VLC screen there is a loop icon (two arrows pointing in opposite directions). If that is toggled on, VLC will attempt to convert the video repeatedly... again, until the end of time. I have seen the end of time and it's not pleasant. Thanks, SuperPertinax. Your video was really helpful.
Thank you for your input, i ma sure this will be very beneficial to others
I also saw the end of time, thanks very helpful 😊
@winslowbarger692 - In my case I checked the checkbox "NO DISC MENUS" and the loop button is off. Still, the video restarts just before the ending.
Thanks. I love VLC! I first encountered it because the lady who built my laptops (Rosa - wonderful lady!) put it on them. I'd never heard of it before. Since then, I've had the pleasure of exploring it (mostly through RUclips videos). What an awesome program! Those students at the French university, who created it, are amazing! This thing can do so much handy stuff, that I can't imagine not having it. tavi.
I've been searching so many programs to do this and it was so extra and cost money. This, however, is simple and easier than all the others. THANK YOU!
you are very welcome
Did you find DVD Decrypter?
Thank you, SuperPertinax. Finally a RUclips video that instructs me how to save my dvd library to my computer in a format that is simple enough for me to understand and do. Much appreciated.
you are very welcome
@@SuperPertinax :D
Thank you for this, you saved me a lot of time, did not realise VLC has ripping capabilities! Cheers!
Straight to the point thanks! I have a bunch of DVDS this is great to be able to have them saved like this thank you!
This video is very helpful! VLC is the best way to play DVDs lately as Windows 8 and 10 no longer come with DVD playing software anyways. I was worried I'd have to fiddle around with more third party softwares that try to get you to pay. Praise VLC!
Thank you man... You helped me out well. Keep me posting tutorials.
Thank you for not assaulting my senses with annoying background rock music. This is one guy simply explaining how to do a technical chore to another guy. Your economical use of time & words is most refreshing. You should make another video explaining to content creators how to make tutorial videos correctly. BTW your process works for me. I'm a Linux user so I had to install an extra package so VLC could open protected content, but it wasn't a big deal. My old laptop is deadly slow but if I start the rip and come back in an hour or two the finished video plays perfectly. Cheers.
Thank you so much for your words, they meen a lot to me, nice to know you are a Linux user, i am too 🙂
Thanks mate I don't know F all about this stuff but I seen your video and I followed it step by step because I have this on my computer and it's working ,so we'll see how it goes but so far it's all good, much appreciated, cheers from Australia.
been so long since i needed to convert or move dvd's onto a usb or hd ty for a very very precise and simple refresher
Very helpful! Worked perfectly! Thanks for the time and effort you've taken to make this.
you are very welcome
Great quick fast tutorial. Working as we speak. Thank you.
I didn't even know vlc had a build in dvd ripper. Thanks!
You are very welcome
SOLVED AUDIO - if you get the problem at 3:20 where by playing the file you get the wrong audio as default and don't want to change the audio track in the menu. At 1:15 in the box audio track, if you change the -1 to either 1 or 2 you will then rip it with the original audio as default. Might take a couple of rips to get the right one between 1 and 2 (I've found 2 normally is the right one)
Did you edit this within the last few hours? I was using your comment to help me last night and I woke up to keep trying today and it had changed
I put it on 2 and did not get any audio; plus I had done the other suggestion at 1:40 and did the little wrench to "keep original audio". No luck yet on audio
How can I also add the subtitles to the new file? There was some option with numbers on a drop down menu...
I didn’t know this software could rip dvds I could have used this info 2 years ago to help my sister rip her dvds but now I can use this info for my raspberry pi media setup for the future.. you have earned yourself a sub
Thanks :-)
You should use MakeMKV. It's free and user friendly. I wrote up a comment regarding this so if you want check it out.
I'm writing this up to help those out that are having issues with their VLC rips. This is what I use...
I use MakeMKV to rip my movies/tv shows. Then I use HandBrake to compress my videos.
MakeMKV is very simple to use.
1. Simply load up the program
2. Select the optical drive you are putting the disc in
3. Open the optical drive, insert disc and close the optical drive.
4. Select the optical drive image in MakeMKV. Wait for it to load.
5. Go through the movie/tv show and match up to the one that is on the back of the box. Then rip away.
This usually takes 20-35 mins to rip depending on your optical drive.
PS. There are a few movies that have multiple files in them. Disney has usually 1-3 files that match the time for the movies and usually that's due to languages in the movie. Like the Disney logo or something like that. Lions Gate usually has a lot of protection files on their disc and I would advise staying away from ripping their movies (retail files not so sure but Netflix and Redbox does). If you see multiple angles being read at the end of the file name it's usually angle 1 that is correct.
HandBrake is a great compression program but ironing out what file is correct is very hard. I advise not using it because you can rip the movie faster with MakeMKV see what the file is because sometimes same length videos can also be straight interviews with cast members and directors. HandBrake does have a learning curb to it too get the best quality out the videos you compress I advise you watch tutorials to understand more of what you are doing.
Either that or DVD Decrypter works, excellent.
This was a very useful video ... thank you so much for making it so simpl ... I really appreciate it 🙏
you are very welcome
Thank you so much! I tried using “HandBreak(ripper) but it was complex. But this is simple! Is there anyway I can somehow convert resolution? Or make it 4K for my new TV? But thank you so much!
Thank you for a very simple and easy to understand tutorial.
You are very welcome
Thank you! Do you know why VLC ONLY copies the extra commentary track and NOT the main movie?
Thank you for posting this video. My problem is, I tried to play the recorded movie on my MacBook and it seems there's no audio track options like the PC. So, I can hear all narrations and commentaries at the same time while the movie is being played. If you know how to do it in a MacBook could you please make a video as well? Or better yet, Is there a way to record the movie using VLC without the narration, commentaries or other languages? Thanks.
Thanks for the help! It also lets you add subtitle. So it helped me alot! Appreciate it ^^
Straight to the point just the way it should be.. but I didn't get audio in my conversion any clue how I can fix that.
what version do you have? mine looks very different than yours and i can't see a Media bar icon. Cheers
Hi is there a way to make this work with TV show DVD's? I can convert the first episode fine but can't get it to do the other 3 on the disc. Thanks
Brilliant mate. It worked. Subscribed. Thanks.
great video man better than those video's that give you links to free trial software blablabla. Thank you man you are a lifesaver!
Great to the pojnt video. I would have liked to hear a bit about copyright protection, does the VLC just bypass it or are there extra steps?
It’s bypasses, you should be alright if you restrict use of said media in question to home use
You’re a godsend, thank you so much for creating this video. ☺️
you are very welcome
Good be with You Jesus is the Lord
Hi I converted my first DVD to file no problem! The second time tryng another movie disc when I go to convert, set to mp4, then I get it ready and hit start, the whole box disappears where you hit start? Any Idea?
Thanks
You Sir, are a true friend, worked perfectly, thanks, liked and subscribed 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You are very welcome Sir
I have the free version of VLC on my laptop and i copied John Wayne’s film Rio Bravo but for some reason although it copied it copied without no volume. So I tried ripping Rio Bravo a few more times and those other times it didn’t copy anything. I bought WonderFox DVD Ripper yesterday and to me it’s worth it as it’s straightforward and there’s no hassle. Don’t have to worry about having to add this or add that it does it itself and my ripping of 4 to 5 dvd movies was a success.
Are you still interested in backup DVD? If so, are you interested in knowing more about VideoProc DVD to MP4 converter?
I keep encountering NO AUDIO when trying to play outside of VLC, on Windows10 WMP or Movies, etc. I tried all permutations until I stumbled upon an answer! [Also, do note that you'll likely want to find the actual main film or section to rip, not all of it. So at 1:25 here, the Title must be selected accordingly (e.g., on my DVD the main film was Title 4). You will want all its Chapters, so leave it at 0.] The Audio track I wanted was 2. At 1:40 in this video, you can see the little wrench. Click it and go to the audio section. Select 'Keep original audio'. Click through and then it should work well enough.
I pick my title number also, but I also get it running through all the other titles on the disc very quickly that I haven't asked for which if it's got say 6/7 titles at 40 mins it runs through all them???
How do I find out which title number I need?
@@sairafazil8053 play the bit you want to rip and see what title number it is by looking under one of the sections at the top (can't remember what to click as not Infront of my pc). It will have all the title numbers listed but there will be a dot by the one your currently playing
@@thefisherman536 That's in the top menu under "Playback" and then "Title".
**CHEERS ALL AROUND** Thanks for this tip!!
When I tried to do Star Wars A New Hope the video didn't have any audio and was 1:40:00 instead of 2:04:49 do you know how to fix it or why it's doing that?
In my experience, this works very nicely with some movie DVDs but with others, no audio is saved. Can you suggest why this is happening e.g. do I need to adjust other settings or perhaps preferences?
Maybe you need to change the audio track from -1 to 0

THIS WORKED FOR ME
The dvd I record has an intro screen and then a separate screen for the feature. Everything seems to record - but when I play the file ONLY the 16-second intro screen is shown, but not the feature.
Is there a fix for this?
Does this work with tv show dvds too? Like Friends or Seinfeld with multiple episodes in one disc?
Is there a method for just converting certain dvd files?
For example, I have a dvd - R disc with a wedding on it and some other stuff.
Is there a way to just rip the wedding to MP4?
Another scenario is I have our school play which I converted from VHS to DVD. Is there a way of just converting the bits with me in to show people on my phone?
yes, look at my handbrake video, you probably wont need the older version, just install the latest handbrake and you should be able to convert to mp4.
Thank you very much for this, that's what I was looking for
welcome
Wow thanks! I didn't even know VLC could do this!
STRAIGHT TO THE POINT THANKS!
Hey I have a problem when I try to convert it goes through the prosses and when it gets to the end of the movie it just keeps going and it still says converting any ideas?
Hey! Does the DVD still work in other players after you rip it to your computer?
Sir g screchesh dvd and cds any option to convert files please sugges my problems thanks sir
Does this change the region as well as i have a region 1 dvd & im from the UK
Hi, can you (or anyone) help me? I think I have the latest version of VLC (3.0.8) but clearly I'm doing something wrong. I can't get to the first screen where I can select Media at the top. I've just transitioned to a MacBook from PC so maybe I'm not navigating this computer properly. Thanks!
For some reason, I get this weird bug where the footage is played a tad faster than the audio track. Any Idea how I can fix that or is that some kind of strange DRM from the Star Wars DVD?
you can use track sync from the tools menu to add or decrease delay
Great information.. what version of VLC are you using? I have an older version which will not let me skip the previous.. thanks
at that time i think i was using 3.60, cant remember now
Hello. Would you please help me? I'm only ripping the dvd menu in VLC. What should I do to get the movie?
Thanks brother! Does this also work with blu-ray? I noticed the option for it there and was hoping it would be just as easy.
give it a try
Thanks for the tutorial!!! It helped a lot
you are Welcome
Question does VLC let you copy 3 films on to one disc ?
Please help, I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to rip different chapters on the disc menu. I have a couple of home video's on my DVD disc that I recorded in chapters 1 and 2 on the disc menu. I've successfully ripped the first chapter but I cannot get VLC to rip the second chapter on the disc menu. It always goes back to ripping the first one again. Any idea's?
This work good ! I went to copy Anna it had 4 previews, VIC stop after the the 1st preview. I used Record from VIC the movie copy to my video folder fine. I do thank you for the hint to use VIC
I followed everything you did and when I click start the process bar at the bottom is not giving correct process time. It's going from 39 seconds to 1hour very fast. The length of movie is 1hr 5min. Window says, coverting dvd at the top. Stoped process after 10 min and movie looks good but it will not play in vlc and there is no audio. Help!
VLC is a fantastic player especially for its zoom and slow motion; most other players only have one or the other feature. BUT when will it ever be able to play 1080p BD movies?
First of all thanks for the great video. I didn't know that VLC player was able to do that. And I have a question. If I use this method will it also download all the different subtitles in the DVD so that I can watch it with subtitles.
have a look here helpdeskgeek.com/free-tools-review/6-best-sites-to-download-movie-subtitles-for-free/
I'm new at this. I did record a DVD I made years ago. The DVD had some not wanted videos. How can I delete just some of the videos off of the VLC?
take a look at this ruclips.net/video/SIufkwJ75gw/видео.html
How do you convert the actual film and not just an intro? this is a problem for me where I cant see where I can specifiy to convert just the film
What's the process if I just want to convert/capture certain clips/scenes and not the whole movie?
it worked! thank you
What if I want to have the menu from the DVD included? I uncheck the box? However, so far, I can only get the first title ripped from the DVD. VLC is not ripping the other 4 chapters. I'm getting frustrated!
question. iv tried ripping a DVD multiple times i got the right audio track but the audio is off from the video... any thoughts?
Is there a way to save the subtitles too? Thanks!
You are a lifesaver! Thank you so much!
you are welcome
it works !!! but i have no volume and cannot share ??
How can I have the subtitles separately so u can watch with or without subtitles please
I have a very long video on a disc I was ripping. It had 4 hours runtime and was ripping in real time, literally a second per second. By 1 hour it crashed. How do I fix this?
I have a DVD containing what was originally concert footage captured to VHS tape from the 1980's. The aspect ratio is 4:3 (old school television tube dimensions). The DVD displays correctly in 4:3 format when played in VLC (with the black bars on each side), but when I convert the DVD to mp4, the resulting video is stretched to todays aspect ration - whatever that is, and it looks weird. Any idea how I can get the converter to retain the 4:3 ratio?
try changing the aspect ratio in vlc before you start converting
@@SuperPertinaxThanks! I actually did the conversion originally using the 720p option - which caused the trouble apparently. I tried converting again using H.264.mp3.mp4 as suggested in this video, and it worked! Cheers!!
For some reason no audio when put onto external hardrive playin on ps4 could not play audio format any thoughts people
Hey so I did this and it seemed to work fine, however the last 15 or so minutes of the movie didnt have audio. Anyone know a fix for this?
do you know how to rip a double feature dvd? It seems like it only takes the first movie.
how do you rip a dvd with vlc when it has more than one movie on it, as ive only been able to rip the first file ???
what about individual episodes like a tv series- i used this and managed to get one episode but not the others
hello.i download DVD ma 310.iso on my computer .how I can view these files.thank you
If it is a .iso file then you should be able to mount it, look here, www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/mount-an-iso-image-in-windows-vista/
Not sure why you have downloaded an iso file though.
Did this just how you showed and it gave me 2hr black screen with no sound ? Can you help me? Why is this?
Will this work with Copyguard?
At 2:35 when you say you can only assume it is doing the audio tracks it isn't. It's quickly running through every title on the disk for some reason. I know because I am choosing my title and it is ripping that title but then after it quickly runs through every title on the disk which if you have a dvd with say 6 40min episodes it can take a while to quickly run through the 5 your not ripping
OMG thank you. My roomate bought a dvd for the kids to watch but we don't have one commected to a tv and she asked me to convert it. I tried a couple programs but they literally left their logo across the screen. I already use vlc and I didn't know it did this lol.
you are very welcome
It's too bad. The destination folder does not fill in, therefore you can't rip the movie. Is there something I'm missing? It goes as planned until you try to choose the folder to point to and nothing happens.
It seems you may have a different version of VLC and or not Windows 10 ?
Thanks bro... It's help me to backup my son's movie...
Question: how would I go about doing this with a dvd that has several episodes on, rather than one film? How would I convert so episodes were separate files?
you could try a program called MakeMKV
If I am trying to convert a disc that has 2 movies on it, how can I get both movies, everything I try just converts the first movie. PLEASE HELP!
This guy is a bloody legend!
Thank you Sir
How do I adjust the settings to get audio. I have no sound from the copy
Same ! It only works on VLC but on other apps the audio doesn’t show
How do you get "all" the chapters on the DVD? For example, I am copying a workout DVD and there are 5 segments to choose from.
1) Play all - 2) Introduction - 3) 20 min workout - 4) 30 min workout - 5) Mini workout & Tips.
I have tried several things but it keeps copying the 20 min workout only.
Thanks in advance.
Personally i would try using a little program called DVD Shrink, it will retain all your chapters etc
How can you back up a DVD they have copyrighted and the DVD using this program because I tried and it won't let me
Hi, downloaded VLC and followed tutorial but only ended up with a short clip i.e. the "Studio Canal" intro. Obviously doing something wrong :-(
Does It Also Work With A Movie DVD??
How do you copy a DVD from an external drive to a PC?
Will this work with DVD+R disks? all I want to do is copy my own home made Videos.
i dont see why not
i did exactly what you did, but my video is there but no audio - when i play the original dvd there is audio, but when i copy the way you said and listen to the copied version i have the video, but there are no audio?
Superb!! Time to back up my Frank Sidebottom's 'Frank's World' DVD!
Thank you sir!!
you are very welcome
Does this download the likes of marvel or are they protected etc?
TY for the video... will this process with on a MacBook Pro?
I have no idea sorry, i dont have a mac, but if you can install VLC on it then i dont see why not.
@@SuperPertinax Ty for your help ...I will give it a try.
you rock! such a great video!
