    How do you rip your DVD's ?

    • @406Steven
      @406Steven Год назад

      I started off with DVD Shrink to copy DVDs to a single-layer DVD (much cheaper but the lower capacity meant it had to drop the quality a bit). As hard drives became cheaper I started using DVD Decrypter to rip the files from the disc, then Handbrake to encode them to a single file and save space. Now that I have a Plex server and am looking to take my library of DVDs and Blu Ray discs and store them on hard drives I'm looking to see if there's anything better.

    Thank you so much for this info. I'd been using handbrake for years and then it just stopped finding the source files - even for DVDs which I had already ripped! This is a blessing!

    Change the minimum chapter length from 120 to 3600 seconds. This will speed up your initial processing time by weeding out the chapters shorter than 1 hour long. Unless you’re ripping tv shows, then change it to 3000 second (50 min).

    Hi Scott. Watching from England. Your presentation is perfect! Nice and relaxed and no loud background music. I'm new to Plex and so haven't uploaded any DVDs yet. I've got two WD NAS drives but haven't used Plex at all. I've ripped tons of CDs (my own collection) over the years and know only too well the nightmare with tags etc, but streaming, I'm new to it. Thank you for the help.

      @Scott Burnette I've just ripped a dvd and it put it in C Video folder, but how do you add it to Plex? I've added it to my NAS by copy and paste as I normally do but I don't need to do this with Plex? Cheers Scott.

    Odd question, do you put the episodes into a single folder for whatever show? iE for Plex you have a big bang theory folder, and every episode inside that folder?

    • @ScottBurnette

      Under the tv shows library I have a folder the Big Bang theory. Under that I have folders season 01 - season 12 . In those folders I each episode named IE: the Big Bang theory s02e04. I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the information. I'm confused about how Plex works. Does Plex store my media files or do I need a dedicated computer in my house to store everything? Also, do you know if this service will work internationally. I am moving to Japan and want to bring my DVD collection, but in a a digital format. Thanks.

    • @ScottBurnette
      @ScottBurnette  5 месяцев назад

      You would need a spare computer, nas , server to house the media. I use a synology NAS to do that. I am not sure about Japan, that's why I would rip my collection to digital and use plex.

    I know this may be a dumb question but the discs are still playable right? I know with imgburn I can still play the game disc afterwards. Just want to make sure before I wreck a bunch of my movies

    Why do you convert your movies to MKV? The industry standard is MP4.

    What is your process for renaming the files after ripping them?

    • @ScottBurnette
      @ScottBurnette  11 месяцев назад

      For movies, I just name them "Name".mp4 or .mkv. For TV Shows I name them the name, if it's a series I create a folder of the name and within that I create a season folder "Season 01" and within that I add the file named "Name" S01E01.mkv

    Plex freezes on my smart TV. Why is that. It's a 2023 Samsung. Doesn't happen on my other TV and it's the same. And other apps run fine. I use fire stick and reboot it and re installed and still the same.

    It's a fun waste of time. I say that because at least for me, I was never happy with the quality. I had several hard drive failures over a few years. Those things are not cheap and a power surge can easily take them out. And it got me to thinking, how many times do I really need to watch "Dude Where's My Car" and I cleared out a lot of stuff I haven't watched in a long time and recouped some of that money.
