Really good explanation, thank you. I might try to make my own server with an old laptop
If you do use a laptop it would be best if it had a USB-C port for the fastest transfer rate with an external drive. Unless your laptop has a lot of extra storage. Thanks for watching!
Hey, I live in a dormitory and my internet is provided, without access to a router, by boingo. They restrict the amount of devices I can have the network. Do you know if that would present a problem for remote casting?
How what components are the most important to get the max number of streams possible? Any recommended older model pc to use or any components to buy.
You know, I could not tell you how to get the max but sharing in house you can use about anything but outside is going to require a fast upstream internet connection, I have 20mbps upstream with 2 or 3 family members watching at times no problem. Thanks for watching!
Do you need to get the movies or shows into the folders in the first place ? If so, how so ?
Yes, you first copy your movies to the folders on your system and then install PLEX. In the setup you point the directories to your drives or folders and it will search for all media on the drive or folder and add them to your PLEX menu.
Did you do anything else with the windows firewall? I've been trying to figure out why mine doesnt get detected in other devices but the server only works on the host pc.
Did you get it fixed, and did you watch my other video on how to watch PLEX anywhere? ruclips.net/video/ytZm14I9GAM/видео.html
@@GTKTheater No :( I gave up on it. I figured it was a network thing which I'm not too good at.
Need help. Want to get my own plex media server
I’m running a similiar PC for my Plex server for a few years now. But not using Windows… You dont need to install the server like this, i’ve installed TrueNas Scale (free NAS OS) on my PC as a hypervisor and running Plex as an app. Plex has an offical, up-to-date app for TrueNas and that way i have both a NAS and Plex running :-) much more power efficient then running Windows 24/7…most of the time on idle TrueNas runs with 0-2% CPU usage :-)
This is a good idea, usually there is a trade off, in this case a learning curve for most people. A simple install on windows is quick and easy but more power to ya. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
I seen people talk about plex.. But my big question is how do people get media into the server. Not sure how to get the show or media. Just started your video and hope it talk about this ..
You are getting so close, after these videos the one you need to watch is this ruclips.net/video/lRtONIyMd6s/видео.html Plex Configuration Tips and Tricks to Manage Your Media Server. This should answer most of your questions.
You pirate it. Use a VPN and go on yts or magnetdl and just search up whatever movie or show you want. Throw the files into a folder and point Plex to it. Plex takes care of the rest.
Thank you. I was about to ask the same question.
From what I've seen, people either download their shows/movies or convert them from old DVDs. Either ur own DVD collection or go to thrift stores, garage sales, ur local library, etc to get them
how to watch the videos remotely ? My ISP doesn't support port forwarding.
Plex takes care of that, you see your local Plex server connects to the Plex internet services and keeps you connected. Be sure to watch my other Plex videos to learn more. Thanks for watching!
So with this we don’t need Netflix or any other subscriptions if we have all the movies we want in our plex?
That's how I see it, I haven't had Netflix in years... Thanks for the comment!
i have plex and Love it i have my server on a pc however my old pc would shut off on me when i would leave it on for my plex server 24/7 would you know why this would happen i took it to geek squad several times they said nothng was wrong but it kept doing it i have a new computer it works fine no issues staying on all the time the previous computer was an OMEN PC its great Computer but not for Plex the one i have now is a Dell all in one PC its great anyways keep up the great videos about plex
Maybe overheating?
That is a loaded question, it would be overheating, it could be a Bios setting overriding your operating system, that would be my guess. ;-)
@@GTKTheater how would I find this I’m not that tech savvy would it be in settings
@@thehowman8567 Also check power and sleep settings in windows.
when i try to play a movie it says "Error code: s1001 (Network)" and i can't play the movie.
Your Plex will need to be connected to the internet to reach the Plex services. You may need to also identify your local IP range in your Plex settings. Thanks for watching...

You have come to the right place, much more to come, thanks for watching!
You didn't go the unraid path?
You know, it would work better than putting it on windows but for now this was simple and easy. Something most people can follow. Thanks for the comment!
