    I was a campfire guitarist 40 years ago, learned ~ 15 chords, no theory, no picking, and quit when life got busy mid-career. I retired recently, bought a new guitar and decided to relearn everything I needed to play well. Your videos are ingenious ways of explaining theory in a very learnable way. Thanks for making this so approachable! I'm a Ricky fan!

    Hey Ricky,
    I'm playing the guitar for 7 years now, never learned much of the theory to be honest. Most of the other RUclips channels want to sell their "Super-Mega-Easy-Step-by-Step-Ultimate-Guitar-Course" and their free courses are often too "vague". I love your teaching style and after these 7 years of playing, stuck in repetition without much progress, I'm finally learning new stuff. I can't thank you enough for your videos!
    Stay tuned, Greetings from Germany!

    I’m watching all the videos in the Ricky’s Ultimate RUclips Book 1 back to back again. I can’t recommend it enough for all.
    The content of your teaching & knowledge is as good as anyone’s. It speaks for itself.
    I’d like to commend you on your character and professionalism.
    Case in point, at about the 14:30 mark of this video when the picture froze yet the audio remained. Most of us would have quickly resorted to saucy language or cartoon cursing as an editorial, but not you.
    You remained gracious throughout! I’m proud of you.
    Great #%$&@* job !

    FROZEN ! Computer geeks and web designers don't correct this glitch so we all have to rely on them to make our computers ( we don't actually own them, they do) work properly. This could be fixed but it would put them out of work - sounds like the auto industry doesn't it?
    I now understand why so much of what is taught seems to be related to D shapes on the top three strings - great video.

    Cheers Rick, for confirmation,on caged system.,.. I've been barring on top e ,and strumming then using that as the chord..when actually it was not the chord's I thought I was playing.*if u knows what I mean.

    I often play the first inversion chords by playing a 6m7 and not playing the base note ie for D/F I play a Bm7 because F# is the 5th B.

      Ricky Comiskey I’m not sure to b truthful I’m beginner from May. I can switch now slowly mind u I’ve seen loads of people on youtube mention it as then u know what notes goes together I’m not sure if I need to learn it to help me or just go with flow.Acousticia just a hobby learn some songs I’m not going to write a song etc just to enjoy if makes sense

    • @rickysguitar
      @rickysguitar  4 года назад

      You don’t need to know the circle of 5ths yet. You need to learn chords to play songs and conquer your hands first. The chords you need are C A G E D Am Em Dm F and Bm. These are what I call the 10 chordmandements.

  • @BlessYourHeart254

    The shapes are nice and the idea of moveable ones are good, but my small hands can’t barre a G, D or C shape 🤦‍♀️

    • @rickysguitar
      @rickysguitar  2 года назад

      You don't need to barre! Just play the three notes. The whole of the chord is there.

    Noob question: is this C A G E D thing the inversions of the chords?

    • @rickysguitar
      @rickysguitar  2 года назад +1

      No. There are 5 master chord shapes. You know them as C A G E and D Major, hence CAGED. Maybe I should do a video on it?

    • @MrFlae
      @MrFlae 2 года назад

      @@rickysguitar I just finished watching several of your CAGED videos and I am currently wrapping my head around it. But definitely, if your time allows please do a vid on inversions. I am a 41 yo beginner. Although I can find my way around a piano keyboard (not an expert by any stretch), I decided it is time to learn guitar in order to further develop my music (I dabble in symphonic Rock composing) and i desperately need to know guitar as emulating one on a PC is just not working out. Bass, drums, choirs, symphonic orchestra, vocals and stuff i have it covered. The artificial guitar on the other hand, sounds horrible and i need to record my own tracks. I bought an Yamaha Pacifica just like yours but the one with 2 hummbuckers.
