    Guthrie, you are a kind friend. Thanks for the words we we spoke the other night. I want to say, my private lessons and AW subscription with you since 2019 are continuously paying off and I have fretboard “lightbulb” moments all the time. Your teachings over the years have me understanding everything you talk about. Too much to note but thank you! I encourage anyone serious about melodic, never lost fretboard knowledge to get onboard with GTs lessons opportunities. Thanks man, see you soon around town.

    No one has done more for my playing than GT. He's so right about CAGED and chord shapes. His private lessons are a wealth of material to go over and over. He's an incredibly talented musician who is also a great teacher. In 50 years of playing and countless other lessons he is simply the best I've found. He took my playing up several levels and I continue to learn from him every time I pick up the guitar. Here's the thing you might not realize; he says it without really saying it: It's about the journey. Enjoy the journey and watch yourself grow on the instrument, truly what it's all about.

    Guthrie, they may come in quick flashes at a time… But when I break down and analyze what you pass over, your teaching is PACKED to the brim with information and you waste zero time going from one idea to another. I could pick a random place in your videos, watch for 30 seconds, and practice for 30 minutes. I can also turn every video I’ve watched so far into a 2 week/month long masterclass!

    Lightbulb going off for me watching your video... G for "glue" -- as in it glues together the E and A shapes. Whereas A and E each have a more standalone purpose as chord shapes, this video shows how useful the G shape is to seamlessly tie together harmony and melody. Amazing stuff. Thank you for making these!

  • @slowfinger2

    Love the stories to. Talk about synchronicity though. Last week I was working on the E blues scale between frets 9-12. You're right. That area of neck is under utilized.
    Turns out, thanks to this video, that I was unconsciously working the G shape.
    So thanks ever so much Guthrie. Today's offering is a golden icing on top. Bam! It seriously rounds out my working knowledge.👍

    Knowing the shapes and all the information around them and REALLY knowing the shapes is something Guthrie has made me very aware of. Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge, it is such a treat especially for us thousands of bedroom guitar players who just want to sound better and struggle out of the inevitable ruts we all fall into. Mr GT has helped me massively in rut breaking and that is a great gift to receive.

    I call visualising chords shapes further up the neck the “invisible capo”, just picture a capo on the 7th for example and then you know the G is now a C and work around that. Never had a lesson in my life so it’s just the way I worked it out for myself over the years

(I don’t mean to laugh at anyone’s misfortune, but I can picture the whole scenario, and in hindsight, it’s hilarious 🤣). 4) Appreciate the advice on stretching/loosening techniques. I’m an athlete as well as musician; I foam roll and stretch my body regularly, but hadn’t thought to apply the same to my hands. Makes perfect sense. Thanks as always and keep up the great work and music 🙏👍🏼💛

    Man these lessons are absolute gems! in 2021 I stumbled on a "5 minute lesson" by Jake Curran on using triads in lead playing which sent me down the path of learning all my major, minor and diminished triads on all string sets all over the neck. This somehow led me to Tom Bukovac's videos where he reinforced the importance of this knowledge and ultimately your "this is THE secret" video. I am now confident that this is the correct path and I can ignore all the guitar lesson noise and shortcuts online. I understand there are no shortcuts, you have to put in the work. Now I no longer pick up the guitar and noodle the same dumb pentatonic stuff, I'm trying to use my ear and make music. I don't quite have the "heads up display" of the fretboard in my mind that Tim Pierce talks about, but I know I'm on the right track and my playing is improving. Your teaching style is awesome, thank you so much for this incredible content!!!!!

    • @Kevinschart
      @Kevinschart Год назад +1

      I'm on the triad path right now. I've heard so many teachers say to learn the triads, but I put it off because it seemed so daunting. In reality, it isn't hard to learn those triads at all, 5 minutes a day over a couple months and you own those triads forever.
