am I the only person who loves just looking at the horn itself? shimmering and golden and shiny... so beautiful lol
No. I know exactly what you mean. I rented a nice Holton today and have been waiting to open the case like a Christmas present.
Haha, only have i ever used rental horns. Can't wait to crack open a new horn soon.
Personally, I love looking at the horn, and Sarah as well. But that's just me.
I had to get a replacement horn in the middle of the school year, and the one they gave me was brand new, the school bought it that year. I refused to take back my old one. Now marching band rolls around and I’m expecting to get the old, rusting mello I had last year. Surprise! The whole section got new mellos. Like, still wrapped up in plastic, not a single fingerprint new. We all were just staring in awe for the first half of practice.

"I'm going to try and play it...." As she completely NAILS THE HELL OUT OF IT EFFORTLESSLY! So humble and engaging. So many of us here in the US are such big fans of Ms. Willis. She has been a great ambassador for all things classical music and we are a rapt audience! Thanks for this!!
Classical music is only in the Mozart period.
@@miltonderezende7906 Classical music refers both to music from the classical period but is also a general term for all "art music" (at least in English). That makes it a bit of a bad term, since you have to be clear what you mean, but it's not incorrect
@@hannesw8436 what you said is right when we refer to a general usage of the people. However, I always like to make some guesses to pass the time. greetings from Brazil
"I'm a low horn player waaah waah waaaaah"
*plays high excerpts flawlessly*
lol

Great!!
all horn players are supposed to be able to cover the whole range of the horn
Estevan Hinojosa I'm pretty sure she means that because she's a low horn player (she plays 4th) she hasn't preformed the solo before not that it would be a range issue
Doesn't sound rushed to me. Do you know the part? The rhythm is trickier than you'd think just hearing it without seeing the score (each of the three iterations starting with the perfect fourth begin on a different beat of the 6/8).
Her tone is so gorgeous: bright but warm and round at the same time. Such a pleasure to hear Sarah play.
It's so hard to find any principal hornist (or just a prominent hornist in such a high caliber symphony orchestra) who is female...
My daughter is so inspired. Thank you Sarah.
What a beautiful sound you make Sarah on the lower register, which, as we brass players know, is where the skill is. An excellent technique and a great presenter. Brava!
She has a half British and German accent
+gishman2 Yes, Germans usually spend around six years learning English while in school, and they learn Oxford English, so they tend to have very nice, English accents.
+johnmohanmusic Until we get to know RUclips
She was born in the USA but lived in Tokyo & Moscow as a child & settled in the UK at 13.
I believe she mentioned when she joined the Berlin Philharmonic she did not know, or did not know much, German and had to learn. But do not take my word for it
johnmohanmusic she’s British
The way she teaches is also a perfect blend of critical and encouraging. When I begin horn instruction I want it to be from someone like that
My jaw drop when i hear her play. She is amazing with all the low notes. All the notes that she played was so full and round. I'm gald that I have found such an amazing video. This really help me a lot.
that piano must be famous, gets its own spotlight.
Lol
She has amazing low chops!
among other things
Caleb Young, she has good chops in General.
Music Lover lol😂
What a beautiful woman. Her voice and her horn and her. What soul.
And yes, the way she says "naughty" and "scoundrel" is worth rewatching the video in a loop
You and your Horn Hangout are the reason I was drawn to play Horn at 68, still going strong 4+ years later. Gracias maestra. Abrazos!
Iam sure this will be one of the most watched horn videos on youtube, I like the way Sarah says "I will try and play"..... then goes ahead and plays it fantasticley with apparently no effort at all!
Thankyou
A great artist, a great musician and a thoroughly nice person. and a wonderful teacher to her students.
The tone and timbre is soooo pure she's great🤘🏾👌🏾👏🏾
Congratulations to Miss Willis ! I love her !
I wish I had been able to play the horn like that when I was in college. That horn is beautiful, but my 5 valve horn was beautiful right after it had been refinished back then, my orchestra director always loved to show off my 5 valve horn when they got together, its pretty rare, I've never seen another 5 valve French Horn.
Thank you Sarah, you are a wonderful teacher! Your humility and mad skills are inspiring, and more horn players could use those attributes. This master class was fun and informative, and your tone is solid gold. Thank you for your example to all horn players everywhere!!
Those are magical sound. It's simply beautiful. She describes a beautiful garden with those sounds.
I was on Horn scholarship in college. First time I have listened to Ms. Willis. Impressive and unassuming.
What a beautiful deep sound! And then nails the solo horn passage.
She has the articulation, feel, sound all down pat. Excellent Ms. Willis.
Merci :)
Daaaaamn, the most beautiful instrument in the whole world, and she plays it like god *_* absolutely stunning Sarah!!!
Ms. Willis is a prolific Horn player. BPO is a perfect home for such an accomplished artist.
Bravíssimo Sarah Willis. Wonderful Horn. Hugs from Brazil!!!
she's so pretty.
Are you watching on 360p
@@sivanmanickam405 bruh
its so funny when she said simply open the hand in the deep notes an that will do the job kind of 😂😂 isnt it?
This whole entire comment section is joke lmao, one person on fcking love with like a 40 year old person... another person is roasting the person... and another person made a sex joke. Lmao this is too funny
A very special instrument to listen too as it brings a sense of calm to a melody. Very noticeable as you hear it play
You're such a great inspiration Sarah, thank you so much!
Beautiful! I play at Horn and I love Horn!📯
Wow, such a warm and beautiful sound!
I play french horn and am watching this for an assignment and Im impressed the tone is amazing the slurs are just *chef kiss* I wish I could play that good ❤️
Justo lo que necesitaba. Por favor más clases así!!!
As an art major, I am very grateful for the presence of Korean subtitles in the Berliner Philharmoniker's Master Class video😊😊
You know, I listened to both Clevenger and Myers play this piece before this has to be my favorite recording though, because most horns can get that low but they cannot get it solid as Sarah, She is a Low Horn player so she can go circles around a lot of 1st horns. I loved this version thank you, Absolutely perfect
Bravo Sarah Willis. Wonderful. Congratulations. Hugs from Brazil.
A melhor Orquestra Filarmônica do mundo.
Berlin.
Sarah Willis. Além de Linda é muito profissional.
Performance perfeita.
Magnificent priceless piece of work by Beethoven
Sarah Willis is the best.... if you dont agree, you are envy!! please.... she is the best horn player!
Orlando F. Frank Lloyd might be better
"if you dont agree, you are envy!!" I mean...I really like Sarah Willis, but please? Why the shit would you say such cringy childish crap? People can have opinions.
We love your performances!
I play flute but The French horn is my favorite brass instrument it has such a large range.

Such a beautiful sound
I had the pleasure of meeting Sarah and her colleagues at IHS47 where a work of mine was premiered. As a composer, I found this video most helpful. Thank you so much for sharing!
That playing of till was amazing. When I play it I always make sure to really hold that d sharp out for 3 subdivided 8th notes
Beautiful girl and beautiful playing! Great sound.. Thank you!
Wow! Thank you! Amazing and very helpful! 🙏

Wonderful playing and knowledge, thank you from frozen Canada.
Awesome Amazing Beautiful
- Blessings .and thank you .Sarah..
Even if she is an awesome low horn player... I really think it was the best "Till Eulenspiegel" I heard!!!! Fantastic!
That Monty Python reference at 5:49.
j'adore quand elle dit : excusez moi, Till l'Espiègle je ne l'ai pas joué souvent.... c'est joué à la perfection ! j'adore
You have to wonder about the complexity of the human process to create such a pure and beautiful sound commanded by an incredible composer.
It's a McWilliam Model 1 with a Paxman 4B rim
Thank you, Sarah Willis!
Beatiful Sound!! Great
great lesson of Sara, his interpretation of a fragment of 4th horn of Beethoven's Ninth has a level of complexity atlo but with the advice and recommendations of Sarah, seems to be easy. Great horn player, congratulations
Wow! wonderfull sound . I love you Sarah...
I'm impressed with your expertise.
BEAUTIFUL MASTER SARAH!!😄😄😄❤❤❤
Wonderful!
Stunning. Brava!
It's a hand hammered Alexander 103
thanks for the handtips in the low horn parts. I will use it next time when I play low horn.
That was fabulous!
Berlin is so lucky to have her for so many reasons. A low horn player who can NAIL Till is NOT an everyday occurrence!
Thanks Sarah, you are great! :)
Sarah Willis, you're top!
I worship you, Sarah, as a horn goddess. Thank you!!!!!!!
talentueuse et charmante
Realmente es Preciosa! I love you Sarah..
she has a lovely tone.
@Haeronthegreat they both have their cons and pros and areas of praise. I think they are equally impressive. What is most interesting is that you have to develop your low register before you can develop a great high register. You can play low horn for quite a long time, but it takes a lot of endurance building to play high for a long time.
Thank you!
You play amazingly!
Thanks for the translation
This help me a lots! Thank you Sarah! Great shareing & I love it=)
Her voice is so..... 🥰🥰🥰
I’ll never forget the time when playing clarinet with a major Canadian orchestra which shall not be named, I was sitting in front of the fourth horn player when she bombed the Beethoven 9th fourth horn solo and then, in front of the entire orchestra, soloists, chorus and audience, she dropped the F bomb.
It’s seared into my musical memory forever.
Bella mujer y excelente música.
I love you Sarah.... and the way you play too...
Muito bom este master Class
fantastic, from venezuela, I like her sound
she seems so nice! I hope she teaches, she'd be really supportive, would prevent a lot of flying french horn vs. musician incidents.
Loved your video with Wynton Marsalis.
Wonderfull!!!
She is my favorite horn player... ever...
I'd like to share it with +Kezia Widayat. Thank you Mrs.+Sarah Willis & +Berliner Philharmoniker.
And i guess her teacher is right, that Horn is so superb, awesome.
