    I have to say, Captain's Log has been a dream come true for me. As a life-long Star Trek fan and a solo gamer, this is the best of both worlds for me, primarily because I can use virtually all of my STA books now that heretofore I was reading solely for entertainment and appreciation for Star Trek lore. Kudos to you, Jim, and the rest of the creative staff! Now I just have to figure out which book to start with. LOL! Any recommendations?

      Start with Captain's Log. If you're not playing a captain, fold in the ideas and lore from whichever division your character is in. If not playing Starfleet, maybe use one of the quadrant books for lore and ideas and get adventuring.

      Also, I should mention that if you come up with a solid way of playing a pre-written adventure with Captain's Log you'll have an even bigger goldmine on your hands. One of the most asked questions of any solo gamer is how they can use their oracle or solo game of choice with a published adventure.

    I’d like to echo @markbruno72 ‘s words. This is a trekkies drea, come true. I similarly have the STA rule book, three Division books and two of the books of adventures, all unused. Very excited to hear they can all be used to enhance the Captain’s Log experience.

    Word Mill produces The Mythic GME and the Mythic. Magazine devoted to Solo RPG. In Mythic Magazine #3 there is a great article about using a published adventure for solo play.

    I didn’t realize you wrote the Convoy mission from the living campaign. That’s one of my favorite from that set and it’s a really great “bottle episode” that works for even a group of lower deckers.
    My new favorite mission recently though has got to be the non-corporeal mission from Lower Decks sourcebook. I don’t think it would work well for solo play, but it is great to have a good “out of body” or dreamlike mission to run a crew through. It’s a classic trope that I wasn’t sure how to run before.

    Hello. Thanks for the video. I have a question. I was given the Solo book along with Adventures book "Shackleton Expanse". Is there a video or other documentation on how to use the solo book with the adventure book?

      Hi, try this one, which talks about adapting an adventure to CL. Adapting Shackleton would be similar.

    Hi Jim! Thanks for your work on this project. I've preordered and can't wait until Thursday! I may be your target audience: a solo gamer who is a mild Star Trek fan- and I'm totally excited about Captain's Log. While I like journaling, I prefer more strategy and mechanics. My question is: can I use Captain's Log as my base, and add in the extra mechanics from STA in terms of character abilities/test resolutions? Could I use the probability index as the GM and play through missions with the feel of STA (adding on a STA starter set- I'm eyeing that Tricorder's starter set...). I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks

    • @scribe_ineti
      @scribe_ineti  Год назад

      Hi, yes, most STA mechanics could work with CL, just depends on how crunchy you want to get. CL doesn’t use challenge dice, so some things might be impacted.
      Absolutely can use the matrixes as a GM or as a GM tool.
      Hope you enjoy the book!

      @@scribe_ineti Do you think there is a way to house rule it and add the dice?

    • @scribe_ineti
      @scribe_ineti  Год назад

      @@dovidmorris5468 You could just play STA with all the talents, CD, etc, and use the tables in CL to build the story and events. To add CD to Captain's Log, you'd have to add in most of the mechanical stuff we took out to streamline the game. Not to say it can't be done, you'll just need to start adding in mechanical elements and see what works.

    I have no gaming group anymore, so I only play solo. I have been thinking about adapting a system to use for a solo Trek game and was looking at a few systems like Fate, Welcome Aboard Captain, and even Savage Worlds, but then I heard about Captain's Log... The only thing that makes me hesitate is that I have watched a few quick reviews and I am wondering if it's better to use STA with Mythic GME, because Captain's Log might be a bit *too* streamlined and simple.

      10 months late, but the Captain's Log Book runs STA better than Mythic. I always find myself playing a hybrid of the two systems. STA and Captain's Log

      @@thedakotalogs I picked up Captain's Log and started to read it, but I never finished. Some of the game mechanics seem odd to me and I am not sure if I like the system.
      On another video, I asked one of the designers (?) why they included the original Constitution class but not the refit. He told me "just use the same stats. They are the same." From a game perspective, that may be fine, but in-universe, that means there was never any need to retire Enterprise for being "too old" if it was still exactly as good as the newer ships.
      And that is one of the things that seems odd to me: looking at the stats of Discover-era ships, they seem only slightly better than those of the Enterprise era. So mechanically, the ships seem not to progress at all over several centuries.
      I think I may use Captain's Log as a sourcebook and oracle, combining it with Fate Core.
