I agree I think there is a good game with a lot of fun in there somewhere, I couldn't even manage to finish setup due to confusion with the rulebook. It looked really good and I have wanted to get back to it but too many other games have come in now so am now thinking of letting it go which is a shame.
This seems like Merchants & Marauders but...just worse. The art, the mechanics, all of it. M&M is one of my favorites, and I think it still reigns as the best big pirate game.
Love sandbox style exploration, pirate games. Haven't found any that tops the old Avalon Hill, Blackbeard game (not the GMT one!). Played it again recently - and it's still a hoot!
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer I think you'd really enjoy it Cody. It has a lot of historical chrome, which you'd expect from AH. Tons of scurvy, King's Commissioners chasing you down, bribing Governors for a safe haven, duelling other pirates, and your crew tossing you overboard if you don't keep them happy. Turn sequence was too random for us, but there's an easy fix on BGG.
I like it quite a lot - Backbeard that is. Can be a rather harsh game, as the end point is when you’ve had 3 pirate captains die as I recall. Drives home the idea that it was a high risk career!
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer I remember in high school playing a game that it felt like a brand new every time we played it. I think you could play that game forever and will still feel like new.
@@RandomPerson-nd2ey I don't remember the name. Basically, the game is set on a spaceship or space station. The crew bring on board an alien life form. The alien then tries to take over the ship. One thing that kept the game fresh was what killed the alien. Today it's bullets, next game the alien is bullet proof. What you had to work with was different. So on and so on.
Thank you for your Content, and considering not so popular Games, like this one. But at the same time, I would rather see viewer Videos of Games, that were played more often, the complicater, the often, before putting a Video out. This first impression Videos, are like previews, with little benefit for the viewer imo. It’s just for putting out Content, riding the hype wave, or the opposite or to broader the focus of a Kanal, for the Content Creator. But the Viewer gets to little, to subjective facts out of it, to make a reasonable decision! And in this Case, you didn’t even label it, as a first impression, from the beginning, witch is the least you should do, when you put out videos with Games with such different playtimes, that you do. That’s just my opinion.
So, do they call a 2.0 remake of a pirate game like this a rebooty? 🥷 Anyhow, if anyone knows anything about pirates vs Ninjas, be thankful I only fired off a bad dad joke. 🥷
Based on your impressions, might want to wait for the second edition.
Could be.
I was on the USS Enterprise and I had to retrieve the captain's log ...

I was a plumber and it was blocking the space toilet.
Yikes!
It took me too long to get the furious pirate joke... In my defense, been working like 70 hours a week plus drama. Thanks for the laugh.
Happy to help!

Yeah. It's too bad. A bit of a missed opportunity.

@@davidnichol9669 You had me with Tons of Scurvy.
The manual is a nightmare. So many questions, so few answers; even on BGG everybody seems confused. I wait for a second edtion manual.
I think one is in the works.
Trust me, he means wait. 😅
Er... Wha...?
What's the difference between a landlubber and an old seadog? To err is human. To arr is pirate.
Ha!
Thanks Cody. I'm into sandboxx style games, but your review has convinced me to give this one a pass. Appreciate the review buddy.

Any comparison to the GMT version of Black Beard?
I haven't played that one. Fun?

Black beard is one of my favs. But may show its age compared to more minders takes on the pirate theme
Just play Merchants & Marauders.
It’s an option.
I bet Merchants and Marauder's is much better...
It’s for streamlined, for sure.
Xia pirate edition?
Ha!
First.
OP. Maybe you can make a video about the top ten games with the most reply value.
That's not a bad idea.

But far from best.
