I love linen and cotton dresses in summer time in midi or maxi length, especially A line swing cut that allows airflow. I used to wear a lot of chiffon or poly jersey dresses when I worked because it required no thinking.
Shirt dresses and linen tunics take me back to my youth. Love them. I also have what you call a swing dress from last year. Wasn't sure if it was still stylish. Glad it is. Love your sense of humor and videos
Thank you so much for the comment! So glad you like these dresses as well! I’m happy we are still seeing a lot of swing dresses right now. Hoping they don’t go anywhere soon. :)
Ha! I’m 62. It’s funny to me how age is such a focus. Personally, I focus on the quality of the fabric and designs that are best suited for my body. I typically I don’t go for prints in my main pieces of clothing, like pants, tops or dresses. I’ll pair a scarf/pashmina, embroidered or patterned coat. For me, choosing the right color to compliment me hair color. Lately I’ve been loving the lavender hue that’s popular right now. With summer basically here, I’m looking for a fabulous bright lime green. Fashion should be fun at any age😊
If you focus on flattery and quality, age doesn’t need to be a focus. It sounds like you have a great sense of personal style. Hope you enjoyed the video.
Der Ms Nada, I truly appreciate all the HUGE work you have done on giving us advice (backed with photos) for dresses that pass the test...or not! I am a bit confused and need your help though (info, advice) on the fact that most of the time, we are told (especially petite ladies) NOT TO hide behind....shirt type dresses or the ones with no ...lines, no definition, no silhouette; it is like wearing a ...bag. Ugh! Do we add a belt to them? What do we do?? Millions of thanks for everything you do! Sincerely, helene :)
Hi Helene! Always love hearing from you! So the key is for some skin to show lol. So it can be straight but shorter, or if it’s longer then yes it should be defined at the waist. You want to show either the neckline or the arms or the legs for it to be the most flattering as a Petite. So you are right :)
@NadaManley Dear Ms Nada, You took the time to answer and reassure me; I am grateful and delighted!!! I will remember your kind advice!!! Thank you SO much 😊 Have a great week!!! helene
I would love to wear more dresses, my challenges are: varicose veins behind my knee, slim with a prominent stomach ( p from my pregnancies a long time ago) and I am a very pale redhead with no colour. I think maxi dresses/skirts are my best choice
Thanks for the comment! Maxi dresses and midi dresses are going to be a great option for you. Keep it flowy over the tummy without being oversized. The longer tunic dresses and straight shirt dresses will be great. I also love a good bronzing cream for covering leg imperfections. You can get them anywhere but Jergens and Sally Hansen have great versions. Hope that helps!
Love your videos, Nada. The dress you're wearing looks beautiful (from what I can see.) Can you tell me where to find it? I'm very similar in size to you. Thanks!
Dresses are my thing which is why I have over 100. I don't really go for maxis or shapeless dresses. I love a dress with a crossover bust with a v neck though I often have to pin them to keep them from gaping open and showing bra or more.
Hi Nada, Another great video. So, sorry that I missed you live today. Favorite dress is the Nordstrom Cinq a Sep - Lucilla shirt dress. Trying to find something very similar at a lower price.
I love dresses. I have issues with my midsection. I am an apple shaped woman. I have the tendency to look pregnant 😳 😐 😢. Therefore, body-con dresses are out. I wear shirt dress, A- line dresses, or fit-and-flair dresses. I wear shift dresses if the are shorter and open at the collar. I stay away from Rudgging. Dresses that come in at the waist or have a gathering at the waist can look good on me. It would depend where the gathering is. 😊
I love them all! However I'm just a bit under 5'2" tall so the long ones swallow me up and some of the shorter ones make me look stumpy. I have an hourglass figure with muscular calves. 🤷♀️
I’m also 5’2” and get that. It’s all about getting the length right. For me, it means going to a little shorter... take pictures of how you look in different lengths. That will tell you a lot about what works for you.
I think most of us over 40 need to cover our knees in dresses when we have bare legs. I’ll stick to maxi dresses or ankle length or asymmetrical midi-maxi dresses. I love doing minis in the fall/winter with tights though!!
Thanks for the comment Jessica. We all need to find a good length for us. Fortunately, these dresses come in all different lengths. Hope you liked some of these!
I’ve got a friend my age, she is firmly on the “hide the knees” side while I am firmly on the “air the knees” side. I figure anyone close enough to me to see the knees is still too far vertically from the knees … toddlers don’t count!
How does one pick an asymmetrical ruched dress if the Connected Apparel one is a no and the Tahari ASL is good? Is it the bell sleeves on the Connected Apparel that makes it dated or too much? Or the wrap and front ruching? (It is asymmetrical but the ruching is in the front as compared to the Tahari.) I think you generally recommend solids so that's another reason I"m not sure why the solid is a no and the print is good. I do like the print but I had a very similar print in a Max Mara wrap dress about 15 years ago. And yet this one isn't dated? Anyway I really like the Tahari -- I went to the website and see that it is ruched down the center back from the waist. Nice detail!
The tunic dress is fantastic on you, but the black shoes cut U at your ankles. U r tiny and get away with it, though it visually makes ur legs look shorter. What would be better is a shoe that has no ankle strap, closer to the colour of your leg, with a wedge or small heel. The tunic works on you because of the vertical direction of the flowers giving you the illusion of more height.
Do you love dresses or find them a struggle? Let me know in the comments! You can find all of these styles here, including my fave Freesia dress! hueandstripe.com/catalog/306H&SaXts
In my opinion, this has less to do with age, then with comfort level, personal style, and how you feel about your legs. However, each of these styles comes in short, medium and long versions. There is truly something for everyone:)
This was great! I loved i how you broke down each dress and explained why it would or would not work!

Hi Nada, Love your channel. You have such a fun personality and great info. Everytime I'm shopping now I think about "The compromised closet"

love dresses, too !
I love your lip color picking up the same red on your dress. I can’t stop staring at you and the dress:)
Aww thank you! It’s one of my favorite lip colors. Fiesta from Clove & Hallow :)

It's the best! I also have a link in the description box. You can find them all here. hueandstripe.com/catalog/306H&SaXts

Another great and informative video Nada. Thank you!🥰

I feel you about the gaping! Fashion tape is my friend, or velcro dots!
Yes, your linen tunic dress looked very nice on you!👍
I feel like a princess the minute I put on a dress. All the other combinations are great and wonderful, but a dress is like my crown 😅
Yes! Same!

Thank you Meadow! I appreciate the comment! I will let you know if I find a less expensive option. It’s a great dress.

To me, a shorter shirt dress makes you look unfinished. Longer one are fine.
Yes. Need a pair of pants!

Can we share what dress you are wearing?
Yes! I shared it on IG a couple of days ago. It's from Slate & Willow! rstyle.me/+Nz4ZDrQEwaHsSIEClHxJjg
I will say over 50 im not wearing the shorter dresses.
They are not flattering on me.
The longer linen i like. ❤
We all have to pick our best lengths for sure! Thanks so much for the comment. I love the long linen ones also

Shirt dress always looks like sleep dresses to me.
Thanks for the comment! They may just not be your style. I do think a lot comes down to how they are styled. :)
How many of us older folks want to wear the short skirts?? Awful.
In my opinion, this has less to do with age, then with comfort level, personal style, and how you feel about your legs. However, each of these styles comes in short, medium and long versions. There is truly something for everyone:)
The red long shirt dress is awful
