If I do get into that side of CBG's, this would be a very interesting idea, as I started playing guitar on a Les Paul copy about 40 years ago. I've always preferred the solid body, and the body being the same thickness all around, as the Les Paul is.
Hi Marc, yes you can never have enough comments. There is a great deal of satisfaction when building your own guitar, I really enjoyed my solid body L/P guitar, but beware, if you are new to this then using a cigar box for the body will really help and fast track your build, bear in mind that getting the neck right is probably more important than the body. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.
Since most cigar box guitars now have pickups, most magnetic ones, there’s no reason for the box at all. Solid bodied 3 and 4 string guitars make more sense both neck-through and bolt on. They are tighter, more stable, have less feedback and can be adjusted more finely so they are easier to play. I have made a few.
Agreed, I've even taken it a step further, I made a guitar (with pick up) just using the neck and it sounds good.The only problem was the neck kept twisting in my hand so had to add a metal (outline) frame for a bit of stability. I really don't think it would affect the play-ability or sound too much, as long as the neck was attached firmly. But the visual symmetry might look odd with a full body and a smaller width neck.
Very nice. Beautiful build. I am in the process of laying out and planning the exact same for my next CBG. Curious as to how you attached the headstock to the 1X2 neckstock since there is no scarf joint used for this straight style neck. Being that the shaped headstock is wider than the 1X2, necessitating attachment of a wider piece. Or did you carve the neck from one larger piece? Thanks for any feedback on that part. I bought some stain from Crimson Guitars. then used a rattle can finish. It was an acylic varnish protector, (Xylazel, verniz protector, acrilico) I made the mistake of not leaving enough time between flatten down and respraying. I need a lot more patience.
At 5:20 I bought those copper dowel markers in Spain, I must admit I'd never seen them before, but I'm sure they must be everywhere because Spanish DIY stores are not renowned for being up to date in the world of DIY. If you can't find them but have access to a lathe, you could fashion some stock steel bar to a point, you could have various diameters for different projects. Good luck.
Excellent, think you got the shape/size absolutely bang on! Are those the chinese pick-ups all over ebay? I've been debating a very similar sized instrument, although I was thinking semi-acoustic straight through neck hard tail, you've got me wondering if all the extra work is actually worth it when your solid body works so well!
Originally I was thinking of routing out the body before assembly, but plumbed for the easier solid body as a start, and maybe go for the semi hollow body at my next attempt at this type of guitar. Alas the Chinese have cornered the market in (hard to beat value for money) pick-ups. So far, and I've used plenty, Iv'e had no problems with them.

I think the stain would've looked nice if you knew how to work it. Big D Guitars has a bunch of videos showing how to properly stain a guitar; it involves sanding back the stain and re-staining repeatedly, sometimes with different colors, to get the desired look, and is a rather finicky finishing method to work with. I think another model like this would be awesome with a rustic Tobacco Burst finish! Cheers! \m/
Patience, patience, patience, That was my biggest problem, drying/curing takes time, I was in too much of a hurry. but will certainly check out Big D, as I have another project in the pipe line.

I did a 3 string “firebird” a couple of years ago. I used almost exactly the same method. Still my favourite guitar of all the ones I’ve built.
