I first came across this in 2019 when I was suffering from severe major depression. It's been 2 years, almost 3 years in 2022. I still come here from time to time. Not as often as I would 2 years ago. But when I do, I am reminded of the pain and trauma I have endured and I am always hit with the realisation that the sadness will never really go away. It's not as bad as it used to be, but it still hurts sometimes.

I think that if you're depressed Bukowski has that capacity to lift it up a little. I walk away from him with the mark of a tender bitter-sweetness, catch myself then with a soft smile that wasn't before there, "Christ, the old fart's done it again, I wanted to be miserable and he tricked me". You have to love a man that can do that to you.
If you thought your hapyness is with somebody else who am i to stop you from finding it. No matter how it hurts i should take it and accept it. We try to extract from strangers that which we yearn for, but they can`t ever fulfill that which we ourselves are not certain of. Sad creatures we are, living in fear, with obsessions and anxiety that paralyses us, melancholy firmly grasps our souls and lead us to despair.
Listening to others socialize when you yourself are so lonely you feel like you are being starved is as good as being ghosted by the world. I don't fear hell. Life is worse. I fear loneliness more. I don't fear god because there is none. I fear myself more. I fear my nothingness. I fear meaning and finding it knowing it will only disappoint me.

Everytime I fall to a dark place, I come to Bukowski poems and find peace, encouragement.
