    Use plastic painting sheets to cover the window and door openings with heavier thickness “mils” to prevent rain from destroying the sub floors. Great job so far Spencer!

      I was wondering why they didn't dry in before laying the floor.... yes to covering with plastic quick like.

    • @joedoe6444
      @joedoe6444 Год назад +28

      as a flooring installer i hate everything about OSB. when it gets wet it is like a sponge and soaks water into every little woodchip in the board. it takes forever to dry when you have an airspace below it and it always swells all across the board losing its ability to hold nails, and at the joints it swells even more causing a real uneven floor surface. with this floor being in direct contact with the foamboard, it will take forever for it to dry, and mold will become an issue sooner than you think. if it rains inside here and doesn't rain again for a month, you will be able to pull up the flooring and still find water in those foam layers because the epoxy coat underneath it all. i would be duct tapping plastic on the windows with some wood reinforcements to keep the wind from blowing it apart, plus buying a large tarp to cover the entire container.

      dosent really matter since the epoxy is not the finished floor, but if you ever decide to remove the floring and new subfloor you have a good base to do a colored flood coat on top of the epoxy you already did and then use the spikes you attach to your shoes to walk on flooded floor and tourch any bubbles out .

    I had a friend help me redo my Kitchen floors .. There is a cement slab under and 1X2s nailed down with cement nails.. When we put the sub floor down the nails we used must have just been touching the slab.. As you walked over the floor for about 6 months the wood and everything settled and the cement pushed some of the heads up and now there are bumps all over under the industrial tiles we put down. I fear that foam board is gonna compress and all those screws you put in threw the sub floor and down into the very bottom layer of the shipping container is gonna be problems after that foam board compresses some.. Those screw heads could push up slowly threw your sub floor and do the exact same thing that happened to my kitchen floor.. If I was to redo it over I would have used liquid nails and just glued the sub floor to the 1x2s and not even used nails.

    With paint and masking tape, the tape should be removed as soon as possible to keep it from becoming too sticky. Esp if the tape is exposed to direct sunlight. Having a safety razor to cut the edges will keep the surrounding paint from peeling off with the tape so there is less touch up. Project is looking great

    I work with epoxy all the time and if you torch it or lightly spray 91% alcohol on it, it will help with the bubbles. It's looking amazing and sorry there were so many things that happened along the way.

  • @johnbjorgen7212
    @johnbjorgen7212 Год назад +50

    The bubbles aren't from inadequate mixing. It's the wood off-gassing when it comes in contact with the epoxy. That's normal. Any time you're doing more than a thin coat, make sure you put a thin seal coat of epoxy (brush on or use a cheap squeegee that you can throw away) to seal the wood so that the gasses can't escape. Then as others have mentioned, use a torch to get rid of any bubbles as it cures. Once the seal coat is set but before it completely cures (the correct time window will be in the epoxy instructions), you can put on your flood coat. The torch will require a little practice, as you can create waves in the surface if it's too close or not passing over the surface quickly enough and it will set that way without self-leveling. As others have also mentioned, the bubbles are harmless in a surface that's getting covered only anyway, so I wouldn't sweat it, but in case you ever attempt something that you want to look nice, that should help.

      partially correct...most air in epoxy mixtures, mixed by a power tool, is spun into the mixture from the mixing process. Yes, you DO get some gassing off on some materials, but most comes from the mixing.

    • @johnbjorgen7212
      @johnbjorgen7212 Год назад +1

      @@13daniel1974 Good point. I forgot about the power tools. I mixed mine by hand being as careful as possible not to introduce air, so the majority of the bubbles in my project were from off-gassing. I would imagine in this situation that the majority would be from the mixing.

    I've been contracting for almost a year making these from regular and refrigerated containers. Mainly the welding and fabrication. It's been interesting to learn.
    Cool channel!

    Yes, put in a lot of air with the drill…lol…you can get them out with a torch. But like you said y’all are covering it so. Great job!

    Spencer, in my Taxidermy shop I use the 2 part epoxy on the bases for the mounts. Even when you mix it by hand, it gets bubbles. I take a hand torch that brings the bubbles to the top, and they bop ,trial-and-error
    Thanks Dennis

    LOOKING GOOD GUYS. SPENCER, YOU ARE OFFICIALLY A CONTAINER HOME BUILDER. YEAH !!!! YOU ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING A SECOND HOME. YEAH!!! THIS IS YOUR NEW TITLE. I AGREE WITH STEPHEN ABOUT COVERING THE WINDOWS AND DOORS WITH HEAVY PLASTIC. I WOULD HATE FOR HEAVY RAIN TO COME DOWN AND MESS UP ANYTHING. LOVE Y'ALL

    It’s looking good personally I would put all the windows in with plastic over them with the install so they’re protected against paint, etc. that way when it rains it won’t soak the floor, etc. etc.

    Have y'all seen the rigid insulation foam kits for the container walls? It fits within the corrugation.

    If you wave a torch over the wet epoxy the bubbles will come to the surface and pop. Try it on a small piece of scrap you'll see it works.

    I have a question why have y'all not enclosed it yet with windows to prevent damage to the interior from the weather? we're fixing to get into heavy storm season (hopefully lots of rain)
