The quilts on side of homes is representative of the Underground Railroad Quilt Code that was used during times of slavery. It would tell them that the place had food for them or shelter or that something had gone wrong. Cool history. LMK if you want more information.

An easy way to make a hard stop for a drill bit, is to cut a piece of dowel the length that you don’t want the drill bit to go, and then drill the dowel to stay on your bit. When your piece hits the dowel, your hole is at the correct depth.

Jamie, when you are running expensive wood thru your surface planer, attach some 1x2 scrap "runners" to either side of the board, those will get the snipe and the rest of the board will be nice and smooth, instead of burning 8 inches of premium lumber. Those runners extend out in front of the material and can be easily removed after the planing.

A little heat goes a long way with the plastic films, especially when they're on stainless. Toss a space heater in front of the door for 5 minutes before removal next time.
More common on raw material than a finished product is use of a very light acrylic adhesive to keep the "cling", if heat doesn't work there I use acetone on a rag and keep wiping the trailing edge of the film as I peel it.

Just a suggestion. I basing that on, you all tend to try the same thing, but in a different variation. The Range hood. How about, next time, hammer the metal (in other words, dent it up), paint it black, like you did, and then lightly sand it. The high spots will lighten up, but the dents will still be dark. Just a thought.

Actually there is another machine used for putting a straight edge on a board.
And if you ever expand your shop setup you will own one.
Most large shops rarely use a jointer.
    Its called a power saw.
Best is what is called a straight line saw, but others like a sliding table saw can be used also.
And yes, you will eventually own a sliding table saw.
And an edge bander, and a verticle belt sander or a stroke sander, or maybe both.
As well as other sanding machines, and air hand sanders etc etc.
