An officer and a gentlemen is one of those rare films that is so much better than the plot makes it. It’s so brilliant, the acting, writing. It feels like a real life story, it’s such a roller coaster
They don’t make movies like that anymore. It was brilliant.
Definitely. That ending makes me cry every time
Love Gere ....great actor. Gifted ....
Just watched the whole movie for the first time ever. What a gem 💎
Louis won the Academy Award for his role in this film
The real deal role as a hard-nose and no-nonsense marine drill sergeant. He really nailed it this role and nobody else would do that.
@@ronaldlee7566 he was so outstanding, he also looked so physically fit he would’ve actually murdered Richard Gere.
I love Richard Gere
Richard Gere is a legend. Always has been and always will be. And he’s also a real nice guy.❤
One of the best movies ever. It's like the military version of Saturday Night Fever
I guess you failed the miller analogies test I was in the 99t percentile; clearly you have no ability to reason.
Saturday night fever is my favourite film, and an officer and a gentleman is my fourth favourite film, so I get the comparison.
Interesting comparison ... since Travolta turned down the Richard Gere part, enabling Gere to play it.
"Walk around, sugar britches!" My favorite line from the movie. R.I.P Lou Gosset Jr. ❤
Lou was brilliant 👍❤️ as was Debra and of course you. Love the movie❤️
Thanks!! Richard Gere for mentioning and remembering "Philippines.. now i know that your legendary movie " An Officer and Getlemen" had a scene shot at that time in the Phil's..💙👍
This dude was on Fire in this era. I mean He had American Gigiglo a couple years before, Officer, which is the movie I saw as a kid and stuck in my head, plus the up where we belong theme song.. sheesh. Then Breathless after that. Richard Gere was killing shit.
Then pretty Woman
Young Gere as Maverick in Top Gun 1986 would have been phenomenal
They looked so wonderful together in the movie..cant believe they didnt get along while doing the film.
You ass, did you even watch the entire story? Of course they got along beautifully - it was the 'one' scene.
@Surfer Bob Yes, you could well be the authority on this 'asshole' condition. Yes, you bask in shit and idiocity yourself!

Richard Gere should have been nominated for Hachi A Dog’s Tale
That movie was so heartbreaking, it was brutal. Great movie though

i love that movie
Lou was the cool one in this
Best film ever ❤️❤️❤️
this film is so real. even the fight scenes. the lenses used. the entire aesthetic, lack of music score when silence is better. brilliant filmmaking.
I remember watching it in the theater.

Same!
Debra Winger is if anything consistent. She's hated on every movie set she's been on.
Why ? Do tell.....
Hollywood says, "Richard Gere and John Travolta are very similar actors. If you can't get us Travolta, we'll settle for Gere." JT was originally cast to play the lead in American Gigolo but had a huge issue with the full-frontal nudity in one scene, so he walked off the set. The director called RG and asked, "Will you do nudity? Can you show up for wardrobe tomorrow? If so, you're hired!" The rest in cinema history.
You were so gorgeous ❤️
Gere was amazing in American Gigolo, but he was spellbinding in Officer.
Who’s here after watching the movie? 🙋🏻♀️
He was a " heartthrob " back in the day.
A little late fella. Yes it was a good movie. I always thought that kick in the gut was really real, fucking amazing. Thirty years on and done the love movie/hate movie thing..It was so real. I suppose I can put that to bed now. Hey dude, one of the best actor's then and every movie since. Peace.
American Gigolo is Gere's magnum opus.
Really good actor, liked the mothman prophecies most.
forget all those tipical movie seksboms of the 80, Debra Winger was the most beautyfull woman of Them all!
enigma 1982 That’s true.
Yeah but she’s such a rude pig
@@myhalldrummr and so are you.
Not that beautiful;
@@myhalldrummr I recently read about her behavior on the set of Terms of Endearment & now I’m disgusted by her. ☹️
when are we getting this on blu-ray already.
Nobody knows what happened. I wasn't there. Neither were you. A great movie, though.
Υπέροχη θαυμάσια ταινία 🎀🎀🎀🎀
Debra winger said it was like acting with a brick wall.
Debra Winger and Richard Gere did not get along.
+mark murphy She didn't get along with any co-stars I heard.
Pat Seguin she got along well with hopkins apparently.
Not altogether sure RG gets along with that many people.
that's because he is annoying as fuck. a typical American narc ala trump but gere happens to like Tibet both grandiose, both overestimate their competence both not good looking.
i love Richard gere
How you forget how Lou was so great, LOU MADE THE MOVIE
In an Interview in the 90's, Richard said he did 2 movies in his whole career because he was in need of money. Those were an officer and a gentleman and pretty woman lol, go figure.
Lou Gossett tells that story a lot differently.
He sure does doesn't he. lol. Honestly, I'm more inclined to believe Lou. His version was more detailed and sounded far more genuine.
Different story than what Lou tells.
Is there a video of that?
Gerbil Boy
Hollywood has always said, "Get me John Travolta; if you can't, we'll settle for Richard Gere. Both actors have had huge career slumps; RG got Officer and Pretty Woman at times when he desperately needed work; JT got Pulp Fiction only because Quentin T. demanded that the studio let him hire JT. When Stephen King wrote Misery, he had RG in mind and even mentioned him by name. When Misery was adapted to film, James Caan got the lead. When Tom Snyder interviewed King about this, TS asked, "Why didn't Gere get Misery?" and King said, "His name didn't even come up. Nobody at that time was hiring Richard Gere, for whatever reason."
also heard Travolta rejected chicago
Wouldn't surprise me at all. Both men seem confused that Hollywood views them as similar.
if you are comparing then Gere had a better 80's 90's then JT. Yanks OG internal affairs breathless pretty woman final analysis. JT was saved by Quentin. and Gere has said JT pulled out i got it also has said he and JT were rivals. JT just didnt like the sex scenes in OG
omg, thankG OD he did not get misery. James Caan was CLASSIC!
He's been banned by Hollywood because of his support for Tibet. I don't agree with his politics but I respect him for his fidelity to his sense of right.
He was absolutely vile to Debra Winger.
Messylin, Debbie is no picnic!
Richard Gere is the one who was sucking up to Harvey Weinstein for years despite Hollywood knowing what Weinstein was doing to women. Debra quit the industry because she was disgusted by these people.
@@aysunteke4562 go back to the cave you came from dumba&&
She’s a nightmare to work with, be around or interview. She’s heartless and rude.
According to Debra Winger, everybody she ever worked with was vile to her. She was beastly to people and has trashed just about everybody she ever worked with.
If john travolta had accepted the roles of American Gigolo and an officer and a gentleman, Richard Gere probably would not have been the star has been
Yes, but who knows if John would have been as good as Richard. He was perfect in both roles...
Travolta had a major case of the big head back then.
So right he is so plain he got the role because e is 1/2 Jewish. period he is so OVERRATED. I saw tis film at 6 and tout e was ugly as fuck. I have a hIgh aesthetic not the poor American aesthetic.
@@aysunteke4562 lol. Your inferiority complex about America is quite transparent, just fyi.
Richard- it was just a movie buddy?
Here got American Gigolo because John Travolta, their first choice, walked off the set three days into filming, and his main reason for quitting the picture was appearing nude onscreen (frontally) would have been a very, very poor career move. Here had no such objection to "hanging a rat," so he happily replaced Gere. Big problem was that JT stood just under 6'1" and Gere was about 5'8" os Giorgio Armani and his team had to make up an entirely new wardrobe for RG.
so glad I was spared and saw it on tv.
What's wrong with that? I always start push ups at 98...I manage 120 or so.
Typical Virgo temper. They all have it
Is it just me or is Richard Gere way out of Debra Wingers league? I never thought they were a believable couple. Furthermore would you want to marry a woman who knowingly allowed her friend to trick Sid which lead to his death? I just think seeing her would be a bad reminder of Sid and her being in on the lie. Don't get me wrong I love this movie. Just wanted to get some opinions. 😘
It's just you because se is SO Much better looking than you.
hate to break it to you but you are SO jealous and it's obvious;)
p.s bleaching your hair doesn't make you look any less plain, note to americans.;)
neither does 2 HOURS of makeup LOL!!! you are hilariously pathetic!
Aysun teke you must be 12 or really ignorant.
Believe me “I’m a trained actor”. Duhhhhh
Never thought Gere was much of an actor. The role of Zack Mayo was turned down by Jeff Daniels, John Travolta, and even John Denver of all people before Gere got it. I liked the movie, but the fact that this role led him to other better roles is almost comical.
I, on the other hand, think that he is quite underrated because of his good looks... He was good in every movie he played in...
He's great
Watch American Gigolo
O h wow now Jeff Daniels is a class act. HE CAN ACT and is one of the only American actors to not be a narcissistic asshole. LOVE jeff daniels.
L
Ex wife Carey lol
Without that ending the movie would be another pice of shit like Coming Home, i mean, it's a pice of shit BUT with an unforgetable great ending.
