I don't know, I don't think that Debra Winger was wrong for wanting to put her best into something, just to have it mixed with other types of liberal women who would take away from a film. I can't blame her as of thus far with these claims, Travolta, Gere, if what is being said about those two is TRUE, I can't blame her for that too. I read where Richard Gere was trying out for the part in 'The Lords Of Flatbush' and was supposed to act that he was trying to deny his feelings toward a female actress while 'Chico' (Perry King),was supposed to try and talk him into going for the female for a relationship. Gere was 'like a brick wall', (so to speak, as he was giving King nothing to work with), so Perry King switched into trying to take the girl from Gere and King ended up with the part as 'Chico' in it, where Gere wasn't hired. All in all, I think I'm with Winger on this. 😁
Every movie I've watched Debra Winger in, I'VE LOVED and it's a testament to her acting chops that none of what was going on behind the scenes marred the believability of her incredible performances.
So true!!! It speaks to her professionalism that the issues behind the scenes didn’t diminish her performance. She always brings a such a genuine quality to her roles, there’s something so endearing about how she portrays her characters.
Always loved Debra Winger. It was in her eyes. One of my favorite scenes to this day is in Terms of Endearment when she looks at Shirley McClaine before her character dies. SO much said and not a single word spoken. Absolutely brilliant!
I can't believe I never knew Debra and Richard didn't get along. This is hard to believe because the scenes in An Officer And A Gentleman would truly have you thinking otherwise. Just goes to show what an incredible actress Debra is. All her movies, especially her 80's work, I have enjoyed immensely. They are some of my favorite films of all time.

Black Widow is one of my favorite movies! I admire Debra Winger’s talent & outspokenness. Leading men can be major assholes & it’s no big deal. But women are always labeled as “difficult” if we refuse to put up with any crap. This classic quote from Network applies: “I’m mad as hell & I’m not going to take this anymore!”
in all 3 of her big films, Terms of Endearment, Officer and a Gentleman, and Urban Cowboy her co-stars had gripes about her. sounds like she's the one with the problem.
It's so odd how Debra and Richard Gere seemed to have good chemistry in An Officer And A Gentleman despite them not having got along in real life behind the scenes. I give them credit for really "acting" in their scenes together lol.
I loved her character in Leap of Faith where she played opposite Steve Martin. Of course I love Urban Cowboy and Terms of Endearment but seeing her play opposite Steve Martin was great.
"An Officer and a Gentleman," is my favorite but a close behind that is "Terms of Endearment," both are showing excellent acting skills by Debra Winger.
I remember hearing about her and Richard Gere not getting along, but I’d also heard that HE could be very difficult too. I liked her in Rachel Getting Married but I guess the mechanical bull riding scene from Urban Cowboy will be my all-time favorite.
Taylor Hackford, the director of "An Officer And A Gentleman" apparently has a problem with showing up on time for anything (wonder if he was always late turning up for work on that particular movie?). Only one person has ever called him out about it. The woman who ended up becoming his wife, Helen Mirren.
I remember working in the cinema in high school and being a HUGE Robert Redford fan and hearing how he and Debra did NOT get along at all. Which amazed me and still does because you never hear ANYONE claiming bad things against Robert Redford or claiming he had a huge ego and was hard to work with. Legal Eagles however was a decent and fun movie, very under rated for BOTH Debra and Robert.
An Officer and A Gentleman without doubt. Their onscreen chemistry was awesome but today after watching this video I was aghast. Both Richard Gere and she never got along on the sets is unbelievable. Perhaps that is what we call "a talented actor". ❤️❤️😘😘😘👍👍👍

This coverage just makes me a bigger Debra Winger fan. It's a shame she didn't make more movies. Hollywood really threw a priceless diamond to the bottom of the ocean on this one. Fools.
An Officer and a Gentleman is an absolute classic. I had no idea she didn't get along with her co-stars that well. But seriously - farting? Seems juvenile. But she is good at her craft.

I think she is/was great. I loved her in Terms of Endearment but I think my favourite is Shadowlands with Anthony Hopkins. They were both wonderful in that film (Anthony is a favourite anyway). Cant fault that film
I absolutely love the movie Cannery Row, one of my all-time favorites. It is such an iconic movie. The entire cast for the movie, including Debra Winger, was great.
The double standard excuse is victimhood instead of owning ones own bad behavior. There are men whose careers die because of bad behavior as well. Ass holes are ass holes, regardless of sex.
You have to have passion to be an actor. Put a bunch of passionate people together with differing personalities and of course you're going to get clashes. I think she's a great actress (and in one of my all time favorite films, Shadowlands). Given the toxicity in Hollywood that is still coming to light, I can imagine anyone who stood up for themselves would have gotten unfairly judged.

She is certainly talented - but the fact that she's had feuds with almost all her co-stars, even women, just shows how difficult she must be. And I'm glad she didn't do A League of Their Own - Geena was perfect in the role and Madonna gave a great performance. The fact that Debra didn't get along with Travolta, MacLaine, and Gere - three actors you never hear as the subject of feuds or bad behavior - just points to Debra's own problems getting along with others.

@@FactsVerse I'd like to see you cut down on erroneous info and spruce up the announcer's pronunciation of iconic names. Like when he called Jack Klugman Jack Kloogman.
I'm not a big fan of hers, but she's a good actress. I think a lot of times there's friction between cast members just because they are thrown into situations where their characters are so close and they really don't want to be that close personally with the people they're playing with. Also, it can't help but be a contest of egos between the players. It's kind of like Marlon Brando used to say that it's just a bunch of pretty people playing pretend, but as in anything, whenever there's a culture people have a pecking order and there's always a struggle to establish one's place in it on every job. I think she did a good job when she was working. She made a good choice leaving the movie industry feeling as she does. I wouldn't want to have to work with people like that either. It's just the nature of Hollywood and performing dramatic artists.
You're very correct there, chemistry is extremely important. IF you are portraying a couple with a past it's hard to believe when the 2 actors had never met before and are just thrown together.
She is an excellent actress but I'm hard pressed to give anyone a pass when they have a terrible reputation. There are too many great actors and actresses who have nothing but fantastic reputations for being good and gracious on the sets and working with their co-stars. I'm not going to knock someone for being a jerk (they exist in all jobs) but I wouldn't make up excuses for them either.
Debra Winger was so good in all those early blockbuster movies like An Officer and a Gentleman, Terms of Endearment, and Urban Cowboy, I had no idea there was any conflict behind the scenes. As I have read before about her, she could even act with a subtle move of her eyes. I hope she is happy and well now wherever she is.
Always felt She was talented, didn’t know about all Her beefs. I don’t know the full situation but to me it takes a lot of full for a newer actress like Her to be combative with an established actress like Shirley McLaine.
They were all pretty good ones, she's got a great track record....but, OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN really stands out for me! It has suffering, sassiness, sacrifice and redemption, with a great, great ending.....LOVE IT ABOVE ALL OTHERS....yea!!!
I've been thinking about that movie as I scroll through the comments. I was planning on mentioning it. You are the only one I've seen mention it. Tom Beringer was great too.
When I was young I was often told I reminded people of Kim Basinger. One day while watching a movie starring her with my dad I mentioned this. He said, "That's funny, I thought you reminded me of Debra Winger...not just looks, but something else about the two of you." I was over the moon to hear that from him. Not just the extremely favorable comparison, but the compliment it implied. Dad didn't hand out compliments. I really miss that man. If I could go back in time I would do more to speed up the friendship we eventually cultivated so that we'd have more quality time together. Ahhh...the stupidity of youth.
Thanks for your excellent commentary. My favorite Debra movie is the 1987 drama, "Black Widow." Would love to see it again on RUclips--for free, of course!
I like her in The Officer & A Gentleman, Urban Cowboy 🤠,and in Terms Of Endearment never knew or was aware of any behind the scenes drama going on, but it's expected that there would be some personality clashes among co-star's & co-workers onset of any movies 🎥🍿 & TV Show's
I've watched Debra's most movies. Debra Winger's filmography, enjoying a multitude of her captivating performances. Notably, her portrayal of Drusilla, Wonder Woman's spirited younger sister, left an indelible mark on my memory. There are, two cinematic gems stand out prominently for me: the riveting thriller "Betrayed" and the enthralling "Black Widow." Winger's exceptional talent truly shines in these films, showcasing her ability to delve into complex characters and deliver performances that resonate deeply with audiences.
I am not a romantic theme guy; But I really liked Officer and a Gentleman. One of my fav films is Terms of Endearment. Winger was fetching. But I am a Flap guy--Jeff Daniel's performance is so so good. One of THE best comic lines ever: "So does this mean you won't be knitting the baby any booties?" OMG! Belly laughs every time. Maybe it's the misanthrope in me. Or maybe it's because I'm a college English teacher like Flap. I don't know. The belly laugh does me hella good--that's all I know.

She had been sought after for several roles she turned down which would later become iconic. I believe one of them was Clarice Starling in 'Silence of the Lambs,' which, of course, would be inherited by Jodie Foster.
@@basquat76 I'm about 95% sure I heard she was among several stars being considered for the role at the time. There's a lengthy list of key parts she rejected for movies that would become quite successful. She had wielded tremendous clout and respect in Hollywood at her prime. She also turned down the lead in 'The Accused' which ultimately went to Jodie Foster. Foster won an Oscar for her performance.
I admired Debra for boldly stating at the time of " Officer and Gentleman's" release that she couldn't stand Working with Richard Gere. Very bold and honest!

@@saugusguy yes, and she won her lawsuit.
(She was actually willing to do a topless scene in the film. Something she was constantly asked to do, but never did.)
She’s a great actress!
She came to where I worked. She was humble and her demeanor was cool.
Loved her in "Black Widow". She plays a reporter opposite actress Theresa Russell, who was the "husband killing" black widow! 🕷
I loved the movie.. I got hot with Theresa Russell's butt hair when naked in the swimming pool. That was the highlight 😝
Reporter? I could've swore she played a Law enforcement part, perhaps Federal Bureau of Investigation
I completely agree with Debra!!! Hollywood can be extremely difficult to deal with!!!! My favorite film of hers was Urban Cowboy!!!
in all 3 of her big films, Terms of Endearment, Officer and a Gentleman, and Urban Cowboy her co-stars had gripes about her. sounds like she's the one with the problem.
Thanks for her story. I loved her in URBAN COWBOY AND TERMS OF ENDEARMENT AND OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN.
Thanks for watching! We're so glad you enjoyed this video. What other types of video would you like to see?

She is an incredibly talented actor. 👌🏻❤️
Absolutely! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
@@FactsVerse She was fantastic in “Terms of Endearment.”
It's so odd how Debra and Richard Gere seemed to have good chemistry in An Officer And A Gentleman despite them not having got along in real life behind the scenes. I give them credit for really "acting" in their scenes together lol.
No different then Dirty Dancing. Swayze and Grey didn't really get along
It’s crazy because she had great chemistry with John Travolta and Richard Gere! She reminds me of Sean Young. Another difficult actress.
I loved her character in Leap of Faith where she played opposite Steve Martin. Of course I love Urban Cowboy and Terms of Endearment but seeing her play opposite Steve Martin was great.

He is a legend in his own mind..She is great!
I always thought she was a beautiful and talented actress I enjoyed her in every movie she's ever played in.

So many great films! Cannery Row, The Sheltering Sky and Big Bad Love are stand outs in my memory💙
Officer and a Gentleman, Terms of Endearment, and Urban Cowboy. One of the greats of her time!
Oh there has been a lot of negative said about Robert Redford and his reputation as a pri-k. So not true.
@@Friendofstfrank I never heard anything bad about him. I have always heard he was a class act, nice guy to work with and was humble around fans.
A lot of actors enjoyed working with him per their interviews like Barbara Streisand, Jane Fonda, Michelle Pfeiffer.

She’s so right about the double standard
ok
The double standard excuse is victimhood instead of owning ones own bad behavior. There are men whose careers die because of bad behavior as well. Ass holes are ass holes, regardless of sex.

You have to have passion to be an actor. Put a bunch of passionate people together with differing personalities and of course you're going to get clashes. I think she's a great actress (and in one of my all time favorite films, Shadowlands). Given the toxicity in Hollywood that is still coming to light, I can imagine anyone who stood up for themselves would have gotten unfairly judged.

She didn't seem to have any problems with (my idol) Robert Redford during the filming of "Legal Eagles".
MacLaine had a rep..I believe I've heard of Gere having an ego. Travolta's the one I've never heard anything difficult about

I love her acting, the behind the scenes can be chaotic 🤪 at times.
You can watch her current work on 'The Ranch' on Netflix. Great work-loved her character. My favorite was 'Terms Of Endearment'.

Black Widow 1987, opposite her antagonist Theresa Russell.
Whichever producer said she wasn't f...able enough is a muppet. Gorgeous and talented!
Betrayed has my favorite role of hers.
Ahhh...the stupidity of youth.
yep when i was young people would always tell me I reminded them of Brad Pitt.

She had been sought after for several roles she turned down which would later become iconic. I believe one of them was Clarice Starling in 'Silence of the Lambs,' which, of course, would be inherited by Jodie Foster.
I think that was Michelle Pfeiffer who turned it down. Maybe they both did and ended with Foster.
@@basquat76 I'm about 95% sure I heard she was among several stars being considered for the role at the time.
