    This is such a good overview of a lot of cheap hacks that should be simple to find while thrifting! You don't need to spend a lot of money to make a good look. You cover so many good examples of layering, and it really is that layering that MAKES the look.

    • @Incandescentkiki

    Thank you for doing more unisex looks and advice. I find a lot of renfaire/larp things tend to be just "get a white blouse, long skirt and a tight vest or corset" and while thats cool its not at all my style haha

    WOW! This has to be the BEST video I've ever seen on how to jazz up regular clothing to outfit yourself for the Renaissance Faire!! Thank you SO much for all these wonderful ideas and tips, I am so jazzed! I love that you thrift shop!! That you encourage use of clothing in ways not intended! and the use belts are also amazing. I will be attending during warm weather so I love the sleeveless dress look and the wrap skirt tips too. Just everything you showed is so inspiring and fun. Thank you so much, I loved watching this. The only suggestion I can make is that I couldn't hear you well in spite of having my sound cranked up to 100%. Not sure if that's coming from my end or what as I've never made a video.
    All the best!

    Oh, YES you do! One of my most enjoyed activities in a medieval reenactment group was helping people assemble garb for their first event. I can take that "towels pinned on the shoulders" kind of idea and work it with them. No, no, no, no. I haunted the yard sales, flea markets and thrift stores. I watched stores that ran sales on appropriate materials and detail. We begged, borrowed, assembled, acquired. Everyone who has been doing that for a while has a chest of discarded belts, cups, hats, etc. There is a reason we have a "five hour viking" pattern. "material" is bedsheets, table linens, curtains...etc. I regularly picked up sheepskins at the local thrift store in the "baby" aisle. I cut apart damaged fur and leather clothing. I once stripped a couch. With a "little massaging," they were passable garb for a first event. Bless the stores that have old peasant shirts and skirts. Get a certain amount of advice...then do your own style to it. But GO, please DO go. No one will stare; this is a WE kind of thing. You will feel it. My favorite sheepskin cape was finished with a silver buckle I found on a disco looking belt in a thrift store. Two dragons/snakes fighting. Bought it for .50. I got so very many compliments about it.

    • @Incandescentkiki
      @Incandescentkiki  5 месяцев назад +9

      Especially if you find a fleece/felt material it looks SO convincing cause the fabric is reminiscent of wool that a lot of medieval hoods were made from

  • @flamebloom4659
    @flamebloom4659 5 месяцев назад +19

    Love so many of these! The cut up hoodie is genius!! Herre are three extra ones from me, a little more involved but good if you like to sew:
    - if you find a cool dress or skirt that is too small, remove the zipper and turn it into a lacing closure! just make sure to wear something underneath.
    - You can make avery simple medieval chemise ( aka underdres/ shift). I used Morgan donner's tutorial and some basic white cotton, you can also thrift some bedsheets or light curtains.
    - Never underestrimate cutting up a t-shirt for a better neckline and adding flowy sleeves. Bonus since it's strechy and easy to wash, you can sweat in it all day!

    i also am looking if there's a belt maximum to hit...
    rayon/viscose is heavily processed but still made of natural fiber so don't be afraid of it second hand (buying new i'd say look if you find eco version )
    i recommend not being afraid of synthetic fabrics when buying second hand either , when it doesn't touch your skin i find there to rarely be an issue at all

    • @Incandescentkiki
      @Incandescentkiki  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you so much! Synthetic fibers feel totally fine, however, I recently wore a Renaissance fair outfit made of synthetic fibers to a hot Renaissance fair and I was miserable the whole time. The next day that I went, I wore natural fibers. I wore a linen shirt and pants, and I was so much more comfortable, I wanted to recommend natural fibers for hot weather because they’re way more breathable💗✨

    If you have a nice shoulder bag, you can easily make it into a waist bag: Put it around your waist with the shoulder strap long enough to leave a fair amount of space. Make a loop in the exces of strap and pull the bag through. Make sure the strap that crosses at front when making the loop goes behind the bag (or it won't stay) and tada!

    I agree so much with not wanting to wear a purse! It gives me the worst crick in my neck after a long day at the faires too! Like you said about going from a strap to a skirt hike from Leafling Bags, I'd highly recommend a pocket belt from Blue Moon Designs if you're looking for an adjustable investment piece. (another cool artisan^^)
    I've been able to freely use it in and out of faires fashion-wise and it helps a ton with having my shoulders not be like bread knots from a pizza parlor.
