- In this video I backup a set of doubles to the dock... because I didn't want to break up the set and then pick up that trailer by itself and put it up to the dock, call me lazy it's okay I call it skills put to work.

There’s always haters and the people talking shit. I can’t do it and sometimes it got to be done. So good job sir you did it with no problems and made it look easy. Stop being lil bitches and hating even if it’s against policy. Not like the company’s are fair to their drivers.
Thank you so much I love your comment.
OD is one of the best companies to work for in the country, I work for a competitor we are very well taken care of, and no this doesn't ever have to be done you just unhook the tail trailer from the dolly, drop your lead out of the way and back the tail in as a single, then hook back up to your lead. that being said this takes stupid levels of skill to do and im really impressed
Check out my beautiful trucks

Impressive driving for sure. But I can’t think of a time it “got to be done”
@@917saturnino WHAT TERMINAL ARE U FROM?
I MIGHT be able to do this with 1000 pull-ups and a refueling
Homefront this comment made my day😂😂😂
Not easy I started driving double and the pivot moves way too much, hard brake and that rear treaties swings nothing like tractor trailer
@@alexquiroga1967 yeah, I pull doubles for FedEx Ground and I could never do this, I sometimes have a problem hooking the dolly to the rear pup if it's not lined up just right, because if you have to do an angled back at all, the dolly goes the opposite direction the front pup does
This is the best, funniest, and truest comment in the thread.
😂 😂 👍🏽
This guy’s skill level is insane. You have no idea how hard it is to keep the rear box directly behind you like that.
I drove for 53 yrs and around 10 million miles, team and single. But one thing I learn was to back up a set of joint's into any dock or parking spot. It does take practice, and after many miles it got easy. It was always fun to see folk's scratch there heads in disbelief.
I know exactly what you're saying mr.
my respect goes out to you 53 years is a lot of driving, something that for me it'll be a long time before I complish it.
@@917saturnino thank you for your comment
@@davidsare2949 you're very welcome.
10 million… really??
im just getting into trucking and you may as well ask me to fly to the moon lol..this guy nailed it
In my 20+ years of driving LTL, I can count on one hand (& not using all of my fingers) the number of drivers I've actually seen backing up doubles successfully into a dock door. Like someone said earlier, most companies have went off-the-rails on their "safety training" & will reprimand drivers, up to & including termination. I've tried it when I thought management wasn't watching & it only makes me respect those who can a little bit more.
Most LTL that I have worked at or seen, the yard hostler can back doubles to the dock. They also can back a pup with dolly under the 2nd pup. Seems like a company would be happy a driver can do this.
Think they don't care about who can. It's those who think they can and break shit. I'm 50/50 hooking my set without unhooking the converter but I still can't figure out backing the set. 3 mo with OD . These OD old timers are just different. Every day one of em is backing doubles. I've always been the alpha driver at other places. Not even close here. Respect
Straight line? Pfft
I 90 degree alley dock triples on the blindside in a sleeper cab from the top bunk...
Lol
I log it as On-Duty not driving...😎
@@certified_boogeyman
....man, both those comments are gold, I literally laughed so damn hard
Why log as on-duty? Does it take forever?
Sure you do...right there from your sleeper while youre dreaming.
good job , backing a set of doubles is like pushing a chain in a straight line
Hahaha....... I think you hit the nail on the head with this response...
I was trying to think of a good analogy for someone who doesn’t drive. This one is perfect.
Nice job, driver. People who don’t pull sets wouldn’t know how hard that is. Well done! Nailed it.
@@oldschoolwarrior it pretty much all has to be lined up just right, that yard is big enough he could do it. The FedEx Ground Phoenix DC doesn't have that kind of room, so nobody even tries
No, I believe its more like backing up cargo containers with wheels and couplings that you can manipulate at will using a tractor unit just like the one in the video!!!
Damn, and he did it 50 minutes faster than swift does with one trailer
Thank you and I'm still cracking up😂😂
Damn you really have a big problem with swift
this made my day thank you😂😂😂
@@therookieboy6980 no problem with swift, its the drivers they put on the road. A lot of them are not ready or should not be behind the wheel. Not all of them, but a lot for sure.
50 minutes????? nahh you're giving them way too much credit 🤣
Hard as hell!! I could only back up about 10 feet with doubles!! That’s some major skills!! Hard to control 3 pivot points!! Kudos!! 👍
The trick with doubles is little movements, patience and loads of practice. 😊
It's the same thing as pushing out airplanes with a towbar...the nose gear pivots, the tow bar pivots where it's connected to the push vehicle, and the push vehicle has steering, of course.
Hey dumb ass.it was a straight line back up.he pulled forward to many times.lol
I've done it harder backing up 2 farm wagons into a corn crib on the farm when I was just a kid.this guy needs to learn to slow down on his steering. Not turn the wheels so much
Farm wagons lol you have not a clue what go into backing a set of doubles not to mention this ain’t a tractor and hay wagons this takes major skills
I been pulling doubles for a little while now and I was convinced this wasn’t possible. Damn good job
Same
I'm always impressed when a driver can do this
I just wish it made girls more horny, but no.
@@leojay9136 maybe lady truck drivers lmfao 🤣
Good job!! I've done it with 48's many times, a bit more tricky with those pups, they react so much quicker. This just shows a good driver's skill set, it's pretty sad that a lot of the drivers these days can't even back up a single trailer, much less 2 trailers. The whole key is starting with both trailers and the tractor straight and keeping the whole rig straight as you move in reverse. I agree, it's not lazy, it's skill, the guys that call it lazy are jealous that they can't do it.
If I hadn't seen it I wouldn't believe it. I could never get more than one trailer length before the whole thing was all wrapped up.
Outstanding! I'd never attempt that. The retired trucker who taught me told me first thing; anyone can drive one of these down a highway, here in the lot is where you earn your money.
This is actually a testament to the quality of your equipment, especially the con-gear. Good job to you and the guy doing your alignments!
I rear hook my sets and back my empty kites into the line out in the yard every night, not hating on this guy in anyway, shit takes skill and the absolute most concentration. Biggest thing is knowing how the dolly reacts off the lead. Keep up the good work driver
You mad lad! This is great. In my time of living I've seen less than 5 people back up doubles like that, you made it look effortless
Holly molly! That was amazing! Honestly the main thing keeping me from getting my doubles endorsement is I just don't wanna have to park it. Keep up the great work! Drive safe!!
Backing a set takes a special skill. This driver did a great job.
I'm a owner operator and I couldn't do this👀👀👀🙌🙌 backing doubles is hard ASF GOOD JOB MAN GOOD JOB🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
The slower you go the better you can get grip of what you doing like this man did, that’s exciting to see thank you sir and be safe out there 10/4!!
I tip my hat off to you driver. Great job and skills.
Great job Driver! i love watching true skills and the love of what you do! not many take the time to hone there talents! cheers brother!
Nothing lazy there I drove doubles for fed-ex and I hated backing them up it takes patience and skill backing those and patience is one thing I'm short on and anyone talking crap about how easy it is cause you do it in your gravel train ill tell you it isn't even close to the same as backing up those single axle dolly and trailers
Jeremy Garner you had to back up doubles into a dock with fed ex?
That's crazy youve had to back them. Usually drivers coming to my yard either drop the set and the jockeys who know how break them down or the driver breaks them down.
That s not lazy, that's skill. I haul doubles for Amazon I wish I have the practice and skill you have.
I work for FedEx I don't even need to back them up
@@anthonyritter5507 I drive for FedEx Ground and nobody backs them as a combined unit. They either drop the two with the dolly still connecting them, or more often we break them down.
Funny enough, the first two I had to grab last night must have both come from the same driver, because they were connected with a dolly just sitting in staging, couldn't believe it. 9 times out of 10, I have to tow the dolly on the back of the tractor frame and hunt the two pups down
About to start doubles training this is good motivation!! Great job 👏👍👌
Dude! That was awesome! And I thought it was impossible to back doubles.
It's hard enough backing your lead pup with the dolly attached if you have to back it more than 30 feet to the tail trailer, I've done that twice, takes like 30 fucking pullups
This is nothin’. Hold my beer and watch me back my 53’ triples, I *work* for my 28 cents per mile!
Mista Butterworth what?
Work where im at i make 48 cents per mile
Stephanie Boman i get 51c and I just started yesterday
There is companys paying 62 cents per mile
😂😂😂😂😂
That’s insane! I have been trying to learn in my free time for the last year still can’t do it... You are one hell of a driver!
thank you... try doing it in like a little bit of a uphill, that way you will kind of get the idea of where the trailers go when you push them.
That was nicely done. Good job my man! I am not a professional semi driver but I have driven a few. I pull all kinds of trailers with the small trucks regularly and I cannot imagine working with two pivot points. It isn't about lazy or not its about skill!
Awaome video!
I can't wrap my head around how hard this must be.
Good job!
the amount of skill in this video scares me
Much respect for even trying.. I am still learning normal cdl backing
I have mad respect for people who can do this!
@917saturnino you are a true professional truck driver congrats.
good job mann youre the best thank you for nice video you did a great job!! keep doing whatchu doing. you inspire me this video makes me feel a future truck driver..thank you again...god bless!!!
I'm amazed how you can back that thing up like that! NICE!!!!
You got skills!! Awesome!!
Thanks for the vid man!!! I'm still having trouble with short singles.
Was mildly impressed.. Then i see how he lined up to the dock perfectly. O.O
Nice... I hope to be that good someday
That is excellent. Way to go!!!!
that was awesome ! I'm a Saia LTL driver for 23 years and I've never attempted to back to dock with doubles. I can only back lead trailer with dolly to rear trailer. I'm going to try this at home boy's and girls....lol
Great job, that takes some skill like backing a hay bailer and wagon together...
Absolutely takes skills I've tried it a few times never got that far hats off too you sir
Is it possible to lock the rotation mechanism and transform double trailer into a single one or at least B-Double trailer?
Very well done, I hope with your talent your not wasting it on being a RUclips star, hopefully your doing your state rodeo and representing OD all the way to the Nationals! Keep up the good work brother, we'll see you out there Gbo saying what's up 👍💪👏👌👊
Awesome job brother! It definitely helps with the single axle. My best time with a single axle and a good turning radius was about 4 min with 1 pull up. Every time I've tried with a twin screw and brutal turning radius it's over half an hour! :)
Probably true, I'm using a tandem drive axle sleeper even though I'm home every day. Much harder than with a single drive day cab
You said some people call it “lazy?!?” No sir. That’s SKILL. It took me months just to be able to back up a trailer with a converter dolly- I could put it into a parking slot between the stripes, and co-workers were impressed. I never even attempted 2 trailers. Stay safe sir- out on the road as well as on the yard.
@hello dkwoodsy how are you doing?
If can, can you get the measurement between lead trailer and pup trailer? It's around 4ft right? Down to the nearest inch would be nice.
Awesome I was told that it couldn’t be done well here you go it was done great job.
Lazy? No way! Smart! Well done sir!
For a long time I thought that was an urban legend. People talked about it but I never saw anyone actually doing it.That’s so rare that before the internet I thought it was a myth.
Your company should support you in participating in the truck rodeo. I think they have a competition for backing doubles. It doesn’t get more precise than you nailed it.
I would pull into a truck stop to rest, on the radio asking for a pull through when I pulled joints. Super truckers would answer asking why I couldn’t back up a set. I bet none of them had ever pulled a set. People gotta talk shit.
YOU. ARE. MY. HERO!
That is perfect brother , Great job !!!
is this possible normally, or is there some lock that you can apply to the hinge connecting the two boxes in some way
Awesome job and video man!
That isn’t lazy that’s just working smarter
Do you have any pointers?! I can back my dolly under my rear workout any problem. Do it daily. I've tried....and tried....and tried to get this down. Just can't wrap my mind around it!
Awesome. Good job.. I have road test tomorrow on new company pulling doubles. Never pulled doubles, been teaming otr 5 years.
Wow hats off to you for having all that patients dealing with somebody in a narrow space LOL.
I hope you do well... hooking up a set of doubles it's not difficult the most difficult part for somebody beginning to do it is backing up trailer and Dolly after that you'll realize that make it turns is a lot easier with doubles... and if you have any questions don't even hesitate to ask good luck to you.
i'm the dude peeping through the porthole watching people back in. some take 10 minutes on a 53 with no other trucks around.
That was awesome!!! You are a great driver. Best to you.
No way I could park in that tight gap without hitting something hats off to you sir
Good job, love your work
Good Job champ!!
Good job of backing doubles !!
Damn! That is a skill to be admired! I have enough trouble backing my single axle trailer. Yeah, practice, practice practice.
Great backing 👍👍
As my opinion If there’s any who call you lazy must the lazy one bro. You make look so simple just because you make the trails straight. Keep it up 👍🏽 your work and take care!! Hope to see some of your move on a tight curve possible. Thank you for the video respect ✊🏽 😎
He did dam good! I’m impressed
thank you.
I DRIVE FOR FED EX GROUND AND BACKED UP ONCE IN A STRAIGHT LINE ABOUT 30 FEET TO GET OUT OF A STICKY SITUATION MY CO DRIVER COULDNT BELIEVE IT
I believe you matter fact I work for FedEx Ground years ago at the Sacramento hub
@@917saturnino I work for them out of the Phoenix hub now
Nice job bro, you made it look easy!
I drove doubles for yrs. and when I hooked my set I would hook the front trailer then went and hooked the dolly to it then went and hooked it to the back trailer. I could back the set into a dock as long as there was enough room to get straight. I could also parallel park a set in between two other vehicles. Bottom line is you can learn to do anything if you take your time
and practice doing it. It’s not that hard, it’s just that most people claim you shouldn’t do it, it to dangerous to do that. If you haul doubles long enough you’re going to come into a situation where you are going to have to back them up, so practice ahead of time.
I sometimes drive doubles hauling macadamia nuts. Crazy difficult just to back straight. Main thing you have to watch is the front dollies. Control the front dolly and you control the direction of the swing of the rear of the first trailer. Then use the rear of the first trailer to push the dolly on the second trailer. Hard concept to grasp, I still have much to learn myself
I cant even park a truck in American Truck Simulator🤣🤣🤣
You are bold and assume. I love it when driver like myself thinks out of the box to save time and money for the company. there are more savings here then you are given credit for. Safety is the big one. what you did is more safe then unhooking. This is because the truck is doing all the physical work and not the driver. By that I mean all the hooking and unhooking of trailer to move them into spot. Great Job, and thanks for show me this can be done. I doubt it was this easy with only 4 pullups. I back tanker trucks (truck and Pup) all the time. Most 53' guys can never get it.
Respect! I Wish I could drive with a double, Trailer no problem, but a double.... nightmare Hope to learn it one day.
It is not as hard as it looks!!
@@917saturnino I learned to drive the doubles at work patience is the key...ill be out there two hours a day learning how to push the trailer in the direction I want...
Driving them is easy if you can pull 53's in your sleep.
What he did here is a whole nother ball of wax. We always break them down and back em one at a time
Nice job! I could do that 30 years ago with manual steer tractor at Roadway Express.
I've heard of it being done. Dad had a freind in California around Fresno who had been pulling doubles since forever. Dad said that man could put both in a door faster than dad could a 48 fter. I can pull pups but i dont do it all the time. And backing them up. Ill split them first. So congratulations sir.
Just a rookie yard jock but I know enough to say that's impressive as shit. A lot of drivers can't back a pup with a dolly hitched much less doubles.
Count me in them, but I still try every chance I get
I've backed a pup and dolly twice, I don't recommend it, lets put it that way
Some companies do not allow it. It gets costly if they screw up. It doesn't take much to jack knife em
Great job can you do a video on how to backup with doubles. This is how I found this video but I seen one before from SMART TRUCKING channel and he says it's almost impossible but that's why I came here and notice you did a great job.
Drove for UPS, took me about 2mo of practice to learn but you can. He's lucky he had enough room to get straight first. Excellent job!
Good job man
By the time you get these backed up I'd already have both at the door and parked doing it the righ way.
Perhaps, it usually takes me between 5 and 10 minutes to break down and back a doubles set. I find the most time consuming part is cranking the landing gear on the pups
The “right way” is efficient and safe. That was clearly efficient, and I didn’t see anything inherently unsafe.
It would be interesting to do a timed test of this vs the method where the driver unhooks and only backs the single trailer into the dock to see how much time it might save (if someone is proficient doing this).
SCENARIO: Your starting condition is with a double trailer coming into the gate at the yard and your ending condition is to be at the same point, facing the opposite direction with just a single trailer hooked to the tractor.
TEST#1: You maneuver the double trailer to a particular dock, unhook it, and then take the single trailer that is still hooked to the tractor to the exit point.
TEST#2: You maneuver the double trailer to an intermediate point, unhook from the rear trailer, move forward to another intermediate point, and unhook from the front trailer, and then go back to what was the rear trailer, hook up to it, and take it to the dock. You then go back to the previous front trailer and take it to the exit point.
I'm surprised that no one has developed some sort of yard vehicle with the 5th wheel in the front and with a 5th wheel that can be hydraulically raised so that the trailer legs do not need to be raised when moving the trailer. Sitting that close to the front of the trailer though would probably give the driver a pretty large blind spot, so he would either need some cameras that stuck well off the sides, double mirrors, or some such thing like that. Ideally, an OTR driver would just pull into the lot, unhook from his trailer(s) and then continue on his way, never having to reverse and someone else being responsible for moving the trailer to the dock or wherever it needed to be.
Agree
But he had a straight line back up also.he just did it to show off was all
@@deannederhoff This just proves you know nothing about driving.
Good job back up
Do loads like this always go to warehouses that have a large amount of space to able to turn around like this?? I want to get my CDL but I'm still deciding If I want to do OTR, LTL/ Regional or just straight trucks.
No.
No, in fact, the FedEx Ground terminals I've gone to here in AZ are pretty tight, especially when drivers are just dumping pups everywhere
Good job driver! Made it look easy
I could back a 2 pivot point (heavy haul with a jeep) set up. I tried backing a set of pups when I was with ConWay....it did not go well.
Nicely done driver.
Gonna try this in ATS game. I thought it was impossible. Thanks, man.
Hell yeah I’ll show the people in Las Vegas in truckers MP that I’m boss

Talk about frustration. Are you still a linehaul driver for OD?
Would you recommend it?
That's so cool man!!!! 😍👍
Nicely done!
Amazing skill. I'm impressed, and intend to take nothing away from it. I do wonder, though, whether it would have been possible before power steering. My one summer job driving a bus on US 66 between Carlinville and Naperville, IL. does in no way give me criticism rights, but backing without power steering was a REAL chore.
I am working with a straight truck and a trailer. I am having to back the trailer and it is a delicate “feathering” like turn. It is hard to do.
How did you do that? Especially between two trailers
I like it, I haven't seen anyone do that before. As a hostler at my job though I would tell you to break em just so we could get you moving on to your next loads or whatever. Good job though man.

Lazy? Lazy my ass! If you can pull it off, then more power to you!
As Jean-Luc Picard would say, "Nicely done!"
Bro you did that shit like nothing, I’ve tried to just back up my lead trailer and dolly to my rear trailer but I can’t i just always have to get out and roll it there myself or just place my dolly there before i even hook up to my lead, good shit bro.
