Let’s get one thing straight. I hardly ever see anyone complaining about a reactor going into a movie or a movie series blind. For me personally, that’s exactly how I prefer to watch reactions. I love watching someone figure everything out and meet the characters as I once did, with no previous influence or knowledge except for maybe the synopsis and a vague sense of who the characters are. Makes me feel like him watching it for the first time all over again. The excitement of watching someone enjoy one of my favorite movies over someone who has previously done research or is rewatching on the channel just isn’t as fun.
Anyway. This is one of my top all time favorite films and I couldn’t be happier that it’s finally becoming a legit franchise with the second one recently out. 😄

If a reactor prefaces a video saying they've already seen it, I skip it.

Yea, the whole point of reactions is the person NOT knowing what to expect, or at least never having watched the entire thing.
Otherwise there's little substance, and some reactions they have feel fake.

When Jake and Netyri go and see Tsu'tey, the machine wasn't broken at all. It was just him being unable to breathe the Pandoran air that woke him up. So he 100% was just wearing the O2 mask and went back into the link to get into his Avatar.

Yep, there are 3 linking beds in that shack. One that got destroyed was the one Norm used before his avatar got shot, the middle one was calibrated to Grace, and the one on far right behind the intact window Neytiri colided with was Jake's. With a mask on to compenzate for the broken window on the Norm's side, he just hopped in amd that was that

When Quarich says that he will get Jake his real legs back he means it. At the very beginning Jake says that medicine has gotten to the point that they can fix paralyzed legs, if you have the money and Jake doesn't have the money.

The term "cow" is used by Grace in the context of distinguishing females from males of the species she's referencing, much in the same way that we refer to females of large species such as hippos, elephants, sea lions, and whales as cows.

Whenever i feel sad and lonely, i like to watch through reaction videos of people watching some of my comfort movies for the first time. Avatar is one of those which i have seen at least 30 times at this point and while i still love it greatly (why else would i rewatch it ao many time to begin with if i didn't love it), seeing people being surprised, amazed, touched by, and falling in love with this story lets me relive my own emotions from the better easier times when i was a carefree teenager and saw it for the first time myself. The wonder, the surprise, the genuine worry - all those emotions will never get old. I'm calling it, once the saga is finished with the 5th movie, this whole thing will be the star wars of our generation - revered loved classic for decades to come.
So thank you once again for bringing back that feeling of seeing it for the first time ever.

This is my favorite movie of all time. It just hits me on all levels. I saw this 28 times in theatres and 26 times in IMAX 3D. I have never had a film experience like this until Avatar: The Way of Water also worth checking out!
A few things as far as Jake being able to go back into his Na'vi body after the link building was destroyed. Not sure how he did this either. I know in the original theatrical release they didn't have the scene with him coming back to find Tsu'Tey and end his life. I know James Cameron really loved that scene and he hated it being removed and put it back in the film during the first re-release in 2010.
The Na'vi queue (The braid with the weird tenticles) is a direct link from on person's mind/nervous system to another (Notice when Jake connects to his Avatar for the first time and they are looking at his brain you will notice the queue connecting straight to the brain). So anything they are attached too (Ikran (Banshee), Direhorse, Palulukan (Thanator), ETC) they can communicate with via their mind. They Na'vi and whatever the Na'vi are connected to will also feel things that they feel, like pain. So when Neytiri is on her Ikran when it it shot, she shouts out in pain too because she can feel it through this connection. Same went for when she was on the Thanator fighting Quartich in his AMP suit.
When the Na'vi decide to mate (Which is similar to humans) they will connect their queues together to deepen their connection during mating. It's very much a precious and sacred ritual shared between the Na'vi. Other than mental and physical feeling the queues provide they are not an actual part of the reproduction process for the Na'vi.

Oh my, DJ! 54 TIMES in total?! Wow, that's incredible!! It certainly is a wonderful film and was a very pleasant surprise for me, as I'd heard so many things, but wasn't sure if it would live up to what I'd heard. What was the IMAX 3D like on this one in comparison to something like Avatar 2 for you? I saw Avtar 2 the other day in IMAX 3D HFR (not a fan of the HFR though) and was blown away by the visuals! I've done a review on here, if you'd be interested in checking it out.
Ah yes, that one scene really threw me off, as you could probably tell haha. It was only in the editing that I realised this was the extended cut (which is why I don't mention it at the start), so I can totally get with this being an additional scene being slightly jarring, but it really does stand out. I thought it was just me! Maybe they removed it initially because of the strange jarring plothole it gives. Probably wasn't that reason though haha.
Oh yes! Thank you for that, it's very helpful. I wasn't sure at first if they could communicate or take over part of their mind etc, so it's helpful having a bit more explanation. They explain it, but there was so much information to take in, it can be a little confusing at times. I also didn't realise about the being shot part, good point! I thought it was Naytiri being shot when I saw it. It didn't occur to me that she wasn't shot after that point!
Oh yes, that mating scene. Oof, it was not expected! Beautifully done scene and steamy. It's great that it gave that extra level of connection to heighten the senses. Thank you for explaining! Being a newcomer to the Na'vi land of Pandora, it's most helpful! I'm very much a sky person still, it seems. Although other than a few people, I couldn't stand the sky people. More so in Avatar 2, I just felt like they were an unnecessary plotline and could have made a really interesting film focusing on the Na'vi and the hunters.
Take care DJ and thank you for watching and commenting! It's lovely to meet a fellow film lover!

@@MoviesWithMarty I meant to say I saw it 28 times total, with 26 of those times in IMAX 3D. lol! Anyways, Avatar (2009) was such an experience. Like I had never seen CGI that realistic nor 3D implemented so well that it was really quite a shock. It just captivated me and sucked me in. Avatar: The Way of Water does the 3D very good as well, however, it didn't have the same feel because I had already experienced it before with the first Avatar. I still loved Avatar: The Way of Water but it clearly is setting up the third film so there are more open plot points then the first film so it feels incomplete. Once the third film gets released I am sure Avatar: The Way of Water will be a much better film. Avatar 3, 4, and 5 are supposed to introduce other human factions/characters/companies that are "Good" as well as introduce some not so good Na'vi. I am really excited for the future of the Avatar franchise and those movies can't come soon enough!

the link building was not destroyed tho, and neither was the machine he was using, it was just not sealed from the outside, which made his human body gasp for air, and lose the link, but as u saw, he was able to hold his breath for a little time, going back to the Avatar body... he could just go back to the machine, with his mask on, and he would not pass out, and can stay linked... so as Movies With Marty kinda thought @53:17 "did he go back in the machine with his mask on?" was already answering his own question...

Jakes beard and hair is used to visually emphasize the passage of time and his character arc.
Jake starts off clean-shaven with a high and tight haircut, both indicate he still maintains discipline and keeps his hair as he did during his military days. This also shows on a meta-level how he still feels close and connected to the military and therefore feels at home with Colonel Quaritch, which is why he’s agreeing to spy on the Na’avi.
As Jake grows more accustomed to the Na’avi, he spends more and more time in the Avatar and less time on maintaining his human body, therefore growing an unmaintained beard and longer hair. This also shows just how much time has passed since he arrived. In addition, it highlights the mental change he is going through, driving him away from the military’s POV and more towards the Na’avi. Upon his second encounter with Colonel Quaritch, his vastly different haircut is a representation that not just his appearance, but also his attitude has deviated from that of the military. As for the shaving: not entirely sure why they included that, I think they just didn’t want human Jake to walk around with a full beard the entire latter half of the movie.

Toruk actually chose Jake before he went to him because remember the Ikran choose NaVi by trying to kill them and he way only chasing Jake because he had chose him. Hence Jake now becoming the 6th Toruk Mackto. Love this movie and love story so much.

Personally, my opinion on Jake is that he didn't seem to care for much of anything in the beginning and because of that he had this "go with the flow" mentality. He made it very clear that he was a marine and suddenly lost his legs. Even though he was going with the flow he never really lost the marine mindset and was never much of a scientist like his twin brother. All things considered that's why he was more inclined to be taking orders from the marines at the beginning. He was told to learn the navi ways from the inside out but as the movie progreses you see him go from his "just taking orders mindset" to actually falling in love with everything about Pandora and him changing his mind.

Only one machine got broken. His own machine was still fine. All he needed was go back with his mask on. I'm guessing the broken machine was the one Norm was in, so it's a good thing he was no longer in it. Or maybe it was Grace's machine that got broken ? Can't be sure whose got broken, but it was certainly not Jake's.

And the colonel meant he'd help Jake get the surgery to fix his spine so that he could walk on his own legs. In the beginning Jake says they can fix a spinal but his vet benefits aren't enough to cover the cost and there's a long wait-list even if they have the money. Quaritchs' deal was basically if Jake provided Intel on the Na'vi, he would get him on the top of the list for spinal repair surgery.

It was visually stunning but the story was bit weak, re-treaded a few bits from the original and has some plot holes. The reason to come back to Pandora has changed to a rather cliché SF/fantasy reason, what about 'unobtanium' from No 1? (that gag is also done in The Core (2003) for an impossible substance the drilling ship was made from) It feels very much like a 'bridge movie' with story to be concluded in no3. I notes Marty that you almost didn't recognise Netiyri, the animation style has vastly improved in 13 years and the originals do look a tad 'cartoonish' now although at the time it was fantastic 3D CGI. Speaking of that, I'd thoroughly recommend checking out Gravity (2013) if you want your mind blown with terrific VFX which look awesome even in 2D.
Here's a few other movies you should add to that ever-expanding list!:
Mysterious Island - sequel to 20,000 Leagues, Herbert Lom (Clouseau's long suffering boss in the Pink Panther films) superb as Nemo.
Jason & The Argonauts - really good classic fantasy film, Ray Harryhausen at his best.
Gravity (2013) 90 mins of the best space effects you will ever see.

Also, need I remind you that EVERY story is a retread of a retread? Every story is "just" the retelling of another, old story. Even Tolkien had to get his inspiration from somewhere. Why should Avatar be treated any differently from the others?
