Derek Prince has testified in a video that he started speaking french on a boat - which he did not study, only to find out there was a frenchman near him which was word from God to this frenchman.
I got saved through watching a Derek Prince call for repentance video to a room full of people to become christians, long after Derek left this earth, so only between Paul's and Derek's testimony, I decide to believe Derek. Plus I received the gift of tongues by His Holy Majesty.

It would have ceased for some but not for me. It was a glorious experience for me that I can never forget all the days of my life. On December 27th, 1981, at a usual Sunday service, God baptized me with His Holy Spirit. Nobody prayed for me. It was while I was listening to the preaching of the word of God that He filled me with His Spirit, and I spoke in tongues for a very long time. It was like fountain bursting forth. My whole body became numb with the power of God. I still can feel the joy of that experience

Just because Mr. Washer has not had the experience himself doesn't mean it has ceased. He needs to write out every scripture that speaks about the gift and allow the Lord to open his eyes and heart! Tongues are also used for private prayer and building ourselves up in the Holy Faith. I have seen the Lord do amazing things through that gift in spite of my personal reservations and negative opinions! The Lord, The Holy Spirit, had to educate me on it too, i was myself a sceptic! There are guidelines in scripture though, and they must be followed!

@@FriedLdRz interpretation of tongues is it’s own spiritual gift, just as tongues itself is. There would not need to be a spiritual gift of interpretation if it were earthly languages. Anyone could learn any language, it is not a supernatural gift of the Holy Spirit.
I was not speaking it once. I have been able to pray in tongues since that day. I have had them interpreted by a lady in my church who had the gift of interpretation and I’ve seen it with others.
It is nothing like the babbling fake tongues in these false churches. However, just because someone has never seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. As a child I understood this in the Bible and had complete faith that God would give it to me if I asked because the Bible says to desire and pursue spiritual gifts.

Well. You don’t get it!. Tongs in the Bible are ALWAYS humans languages . NOTHING ELSE. Even real angles in Old Testament talk humans languages. Baptism in the Holy Spirit are not possible now. They were only manifested when the gospel was given to a new people. They are only seen four times in the book of Acts. Once the gospel was presented to all people, that was its purpose. After the book of Acts, there is never any mention in other books about speaking in tongues or baptism of the Holy Spirit. Now the Holy Spirit completely dwells in the believer through reading and obeying the word, but it is called the filling of the Holy Spirit, not baptism. Any manifestation outside of the correct reading and understanding of the texts is to follow and believe and accept manifestations outside of the clear instruction of the truth of God and should be put to the test of obedience to Christ, that is, to His word. “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but prove the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬ ‭ASV‬‬. These things happen because they manipulate the word and every time that happens the enemy comes into action. It is no accident that texts are taken out of context in these movements manipulated by emotionalism.

Alright all the people who can “speak in tongues” in the comments, please tell me what you are saying or how you understand it and without lying speak it to one of your loved ones or someone who can also “speak it”, and ask them to translate what you’re saying. Cause my guess is that you don’t even know what you’re saying, when the bible talks about the use of tongues there was always someone there who could translate it and it was an apostle. None of you are apostles today. I use to go to a Pentecostal church and I thought I could speak in tongues- but really I was just copying what the pastor was saying and it felt right because the music was in a key that swayed my emotions. It’s a lie people. It was also a language they used personally to communicate to God. But you’ll see so many charismatics talk gibberish to make themselves look so good, like “look I can speak in tongues”. Spiritual gifts are gifts like service, hospitality, loving the brethren fervently, giving, words and are meant to be used to edify and up lift the church. Spiritual gifts are not to be used for self exaltation!!

Spiritual gifts are meant to edify others.
Tongues edifies yourself, not others, and makes the person the center of attention-not Jesus.
Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.-1 Corinthians 14:12
Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.-1 Corinthians 14:22
Let all things be done for edification.
If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret.
But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God.-1 Corinthians 14:26b-28

Let Sceipture interpret itself concwrning the languages that were spoken by Peter and the people at the day of pentecost, to the people from different providences. Read Acts 2 carefully and may the Spirit of God help you understand that tongues were for the unbelievers. Those who said that Peter must have been drunk did nkt understand because they did not understand. As believers we are to understand the Gospel and why is it good news. When I heard the Gispel proclaimed to me I didn't need to hear it in another language I did not understand. I heard the Gospel loud and clear. The Gospel that confronts sinners conscience and tells them how wretcbed they are before the Holy One, in their sin condition and that is by the preaching of the law which is bad news for all of us that we are lost in out sins unless God grants us grace, and faith to believe and trust on the message that Christ came to live the perfect, holy, righteous life me and you are uncapeable to live in righteousness and purity. The Gospel is the message of Christ's life, death, burial resurrection and ascencion. If you want to defend tongues as a requisite for salvation then sadly you will have to answer God for trusting in your merits rather than trusting on the finished work of Christ on the cross when He said "It is finished". Too late to state this since I was filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost September 1980. I am 63 years old and speak in tongues nearly every day during my prayer time and various other times. It is real... It's being "born of the Spirit" John 3 - The church that began in the book of Acts is the church that is alive today... It's still going on. People are born again of the water and the Spirit (water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ and the infilling of the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in other tongues, - the same way it was done in Acts chapters 2, 8, 10, 19, 22.

The passage in John 3 is not speaking to water and spirit baptism. I encourage you to read it again. Jesus says in verse 3, "unless one is born again."
He is speaking of being born again, to which Nicodemus asks how one can be born again, so they enter back into their mother's womb? Obviously from the context, it is implied Jesus was speaking of the birth of the flesh.
And again in verse 6, Jesus says, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."
Jesus is not talking about baptism in this passage. John the Baptist was baptizing in water before anyone was ever born again. No one could be born again until Jesus was resurrected.

Acts 19: 4-7 speaks of 12 men who began to speak in tongues and prophesy, who were not among the original 12, or in the upper room. There are plenty of modern testimonies of the Holy Spirt gifting people with supernatural ability to speak in an actual language they didn’t know in order to accomplish God’s sovereign Gospel progressing plan.

[9](Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
[10]He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
    [11]And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
[12]For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
[13]Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
    [14]That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

How sad & tragic a minister who doesn't possess the gift, claims to be an expert. I'm a Preacher & yes I have recieved the gift of Tongues by faith & its a wonderful, beautiful gift as all gifts from GOD are. Ministers who have little understanding at best should be silent & pray before they bring confusion into the body of Christ. Yes Tongues will eventually cease when all things become perfect but that day is yet future ( Mark 16:17 ) & these signs will follow them that believe, In my name, they shall cast out devils, they SHALL SPEAK WITH NEW TONGUES! If you need clarity, there is one prayer that GOD always answers & that prayer is GOD "Show me the Truth" !

I'm a bit disappointed though. I understand what Paul is saying and I agree with some of it. I have gone to a couple churches that speak in tongues. In those churches everyone spoke tongues all at the same time. It was very distracting and it didn't sound like any language I ever heard. It did sound like gibberish but with that said, I do not believe that the actual speaking in tongues has completely ceased. I don't believe that believing tongues have ceased will send you to hell. Please brother, do not consider this an attack or just for the sake of argument, but please, let's look at the historical context of the letter to the Corinthians.
Paul wrote that letter because the Corinthian church was in the midst of crisis. They were rooted deep in pagan religion and it was finding its way into the church.
One of the ways the pagans would tell if someone was in a spiritual stare was that they had entered an altered state of consciousness. Therefore in their pagan worship, they would induce such states by the use of alcohol, orgies and ecstatic utterances.
When these people got saved, they saw people speaking in other languages that they didn't understand and it seemed familiar to them and they would all work themselves into a frenzy. In the end they elevated what they thought was the gift of tongues, to the highest. Meanwhile the Apostles, prophets and teachers were supposed to be in places of authority.
Now Heres the deal, I used to speak in tongues (as the term is used today), I can confirm that it did not achieve anything for me, it did not edify me spiritually, neither did it draw me closer to God. What it did was fill me with pride and put me in a state where I felt I was in the presence of God, when indeed, I was just in an altered state. That's my experience with it.... And it's the experience of everyone else who I know speaks in tongues.
Now note, I'm not saying everyone who speaks in tongues is a bad christian.... What I am saying is to truly consider it, who in your church has ever been helped by your speaking in tongues? Have you personally shared the gospel with someone who didn't understand your language? Just consider this.
Thanks for reading, I know it was a long one, but I hope you have another perspective. If you don't share with me, hey, like I said, I'm not here to argue. It's all good, your my brother and I respect you.

With all respect I have to brother Paul I must say to him to reconsider what he is saying.

      @life.exchange.ministries 2 месяца назад +1

@@DiscipleduseigneurJesusChrist hey bro, much love and respect to you. I don't think anyone is saying that the gifts of the spirit have passed. His point (and that of most other cessationists such as myself) is that certain gifts were given as signs when there was no way to verify who spoke from God or not (one of which was tongues), because it was a time of new revelation. But now, everything we need is written for us in scripture, so we don't need those signs.
Now, can the Holy Spirit still give these things if need be? Of course He can. But He chooses not to operate in that way. Even in the ancient church, the gifts were causing such a stir. The disagreement is not a new thing.
And I'd like you to know that the early church didn't have this kind of disagreement because they understood that with the passing of the apostles, some of the gifts ceased to be necessary, since everything God was going to reveal about Himself had been written down.
Again, not for the sake of argument, but Charles Parham only brought up the issue of the sign gifts about a hundred years ago in 1901, using the same argument of, "Where is it in the bible?" None of his followers were verified to speak in other tongues, that's where the idea of speaking random syllables came from. Because if they'd try to fit it into the bible's model, they'd find they were wrong.
Now, we disagree and that's okay, I'm just stating some of the reasons I believe what I do. Because the sign gifts (healings, miracles and tongues) were for a sign.... That was how you verified someone who comes with God's word. These days it has been so well documented how many people who claim to heal, fake it.
I'm not trying to fight you, just consider these things. Yes, the bible doesn't say it explicitly, but God gives us the purpose for these gifts, and since there's no use for them, then they're gone. God bless you brother.

@thelife-x-pro I totally agree with your point. You believe in what you believe and I'm must respect that. But I can't reject what the the Holy Spirit have taught me. Remember that our Lord Jesus told us that the Holy Spirit will teach us all things in and us all things that He have said in John 14 and Apostle John in his first book told us that the anointing that we received will teach us everything and is true and not lie. So I remain in what he have taught me and I'm convinced that what I have received from Him is not lie. Not that I don’t believe in the cases that people speak in languages they don’t know, but what the preacher referred to as a spirit language. He occasionally repeats a phrase during his sermons out loud and it’s sometimes off putting because I can’t tell if it’s real. I don’t know I’m hung up on this, but is there any modern teaching you could recommend so that I could better understand speaking in tongues?

This is my breakdown of tongues from what I could piece together through my own interpretation of Scripture, my own experiences, and what I could find from other people online.
This passage tells us that there are "divers" (multiple) kinds of tongues.
      1 Corinthians 12:10
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
This next passage again distinguishes that there are tongues "of men" (human languages) and "of angels". Tongues can be foreign human languages (I've heard it's usually preaching the Gospel), and the unintelligible tongues seem to be the angelic ones. People usually use the latter as a private prayer to God, but I've also heard that in public settings, it can be an inspiring message for the Church.
      1 Corinthians 13:1
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
This last passage is where I learned among others that the prayers go directly to God.
      1 Corinthians 14:2
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
What I learned from others in the interpretation of the above is that the "unknown tongue" goes directly to God. They say that Satan and his army can't understand or interfere with your prayers like this. I've heard of some people rebuking demons with tongues, but I've never done that or seen it (if you want to see demons being cast out, it'd be called "deliverance").
I'll also have you go back to 1 Corinthians 12:10 and point out that there is a gift of the interpretation of tongues, and it seems really cool, because the ones I've read testimonies on Reddit and Quora about people who have that gift, and they understand both the foreign human languages or the angelic languages. I suggest that people pray for that, as it seems to be much more rare. Maybe you could pray and ask for that gift. Maybe even fast for it, by writing down a certain time period you're going to fast for (I generally follow Daniel 10:3 for the food types).
Just as a tip, I got the gift of tongues by praying privately in my car at night. I asked in the tone of a friend to God for the gift, but I also asked humbly (other people online also suggest to ask in that way). Maybe you could ask your preacher how he received the gift of tongues. Not saying that you should do this for the gift of tongues, but perhaps the gift of interpretation. If you want another gift, you could look up Tom Loud's channel, as he has a great channel and ministry for the gift of healing.

Everyone across the board doesn't agree tongues have ceased. If you don't speak in tongues you are in no position to say they don't exist. That's like a blind person saying the grass is not green and the sky is not blue because I've never experienced seeing them before.

For this man and all who believe as he does, tongues have ceased. Those who believe the scripture and have faith to receive, tongues have not ceased. How can anyone be an authority on that which they deny exists, particularly when it is active?

The strange music accompanies the strange doctrine. I like a lot of what Paul says, and I respect him. However, he is wrong on this issue, as are all cessationists. More and more people around the world are being baptized with the Spirit and speaking with tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. That concerns the Reformed crowd greatly because they are being shown to be in error.
Are there fake tongues. Of course. Are there abuses? Of course. But that's no reason to deny the possibility of the real.

These are some points I've come to understand about tongues, plz let me know if I'm wrong
    1. Speaking in tongues is not salvation critical
    2. Speaking in tongues is not everyone's call. Not all have the same ministry
    3. Jesus prophesied of tongues, mark 16:17, (the word new here is the same word used to describe the new testament.) It's completely new, to the person speaking, it may or may not councide with any of the languages spoken on earth.
    4. Speaking in tongues gives people a sense that it's really indecent to do so as apposed to just speaking in English. But God cares about the heart of the believer and the underlying intension and the spirit by which he operates not, outward person and nearness (we see Jesus reprimanding the pharisees in matt 23)
    5. Tongues should not be forced on believers as there is liberty in christ.
    6. The lack of the gift of tongues is not the determining factor of the presence of holy spirit in you.
    7. The holy spirit enables you to pray the much needed prayer , which you couldn't have prayed with your limited vocabulary and memory.
    8. Babies mumble some gibberish before they learn to speak , that doesn't mean it's doesn't have meaning, the baby could be conveying information that they are hungry, or scared or want to be loved . (Psam 8:2, matt 21:16)

He’s wrong. Even though he’s a man of God. And if this gift ceased in America because of their attitude towards God, that’s their problem. But, the gift of tongues didn’t ceased. Maybe it will cease one day, according to the Bible. But definitely didn’t cease.
I know very God fearing faithful people who are speaking in tongues, who are prophesying and who are praying for the ill, and sometimes God does miracles. Not always. But sometimes.
And I know that they are godly people, not because they are speaking in tongues or prophesying but because I see their humble, holy life and attitude towards money, people and God.
Also, I’ve seen people being baptised in the Holy Spirit and started speaking in tongues. And I definitely know that it was the work of God. Not because I’ve seen them and heard them talking in tongues. But because I’ve seen their lives changed. They became different. They were transformed. And the transformation was noticed by everyone.
So, don’t let your lack of faith to shape your way of understanding the Bible. If you don’t see this gift in your church or your area doesn’t mean that God doesn’t bless people somewhere else. God didn’t change. He’s the same. We are the problem. We changed and expect Him to work the same as before…

NO ONE NO ONE NO ONE, this does not mean a language you’ve not learned, it doesn’t mean I start speaking French when I never learned French… it’s a language NO ONE KNOWSSSSS. The only thing I agree here is that tongues is not just some sounds with no phonetic value.
When you are gifted you speak a word or 2. The more you use the gift the more you mature in it. Some speak in clear language immediately.
Many repeat the same words they spoke when they received the gift(reason- they don't use this gift at home for self edification- the main purpose)
Just like our earthly language when we receive the gift, we utter a word or 2. We have to spend time in God's presence to grow in that gift.

Paul Washer is better off not saying anything than teaching that the Gift of Tongues has ceased. That means that if a person is truly speaking tongues by the power of the Holy Spirit and then Paul Washers says that it is not of God, or it is basically of the devil, then Paul has grieved or even blasphemed the Holy Spirit, which is damnable. Paul Washer has no idea of the serious trouble he could possibly be in. Things about Paul Washer never sit right with me, but this is pretty bad.

Too bad for you guys, interpreting the Scripture about tongues through the prism of your western unfortunate climate of false spirit manifestation.
I do believe the same tongues must be a real phonetically language with a clear semantica. If you didn't meet yet in your country doesn't mean it has ceased. I speak in tongues for 30 years already, without practising gibberish sounds. And this gift really lifts me up spiritually when I feel down.
IT IS REAL. And studied it a lot about and taking into account even the occult practices. IT IS NOT THE SAME!

The reason the Christians could speak in real languages was to spread the Good News to all the strangers who were visiting Jerusalem. Afterwards they went home to their own countries with their own language and spread the Good News there. Now everybody can hear and read the Good News in their own language, so no more need for the miracle of speaking in tongues (languages) Read Acts 2:5-8
"At that time devout Jews from every nation under heaven were staying in Jerusalem. So when this sound occurred, a crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. Indeed, they were utterly amazed and said: “See here, all these who are speaking are Gal·i·leʹans, are they not? How is it, then, that each one of us is hearing his own native language?"

If i don't have it ! Why do I speak about it?
And if i don't want it, why do I speak on behalf of God that it's ceased . It's time to give up our self and be like the children because everything for them is easy and simple to believe . We made the live with Christ so complicated. Keep it simple! The Lord wants us to enjoy our relationship with him, and we can use every gift of the spirit to glorify him. We are all his children, and he loves us so much. Let us do the same and bless each other and pray for each other and focus on building our fathers Kingdom bringing more souls to know Jesus our savior and make heaven rejoice. 🙏

This is simply not true whatsoever. We are instructed to earnestly desire the spiritual gifts including the gift of tongues. Using human understanding to decide what is or is not true is unwise. What does scripture clearly demonstrate? There’s nothing to suggest any of the gifts will cease short of heaven’s perfect revelation.
