  • Using my Nikon Z fc and the TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 I do some night photography on the north shore of the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, TN. I did mostly light trails using multiple exposures blended in Photoshop using the "lighten" blending mode. But I also made a couple of other images. I was impressed with the TTArtisan lens and the light stars its 10 bladed Aperture creates.

    That is a sweet lens. Very tempted to get it. The light stars in the ally are fantastic.

    Now your wandering into my territory of photography, be careful in this region, it is like a drug and you might get rid of your bird gear. 😬🤷🏻‍♂️📸 Nice photos with that little Nikon, I really like what you are doing with it.

    Wow!! Loved the light trails Phil. And the light stars, awesome!👍👏 I did not know the number of aperture blades determined the number of light star points. Great video and thanks as always for sharing your set up approach!

    First I have heard the number of points on a star relates to the number of blades in the aperture. Thanks for sharing that tip and your great night photography shots!

    Love that lens. Is it autofocus on the Zfc? I also love your explanation of how to do this kind of photography. Believe I will give it a go in my town to see what I can come up with.

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  2 года назад

      Thanks, Ron. Everything about the lens is manual. Manual Focus and Aperture. There are no electronic connections to the camera so you have to remember the aperture that you used. Light trails, especially when you blend many shots with the lighten blend mode are really fun. The easiest mistake to make is overexposing. Some areas look ok overexposed like the center of a light star but things like signs look bad when they are overexposed IMO. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

    That was a lot of fun Phil, glad you took out the combo for some street photography. You captured some awesome shots! I really liked the first stacked image with the light trails & also the very last frame with those star bursts😀 Thanks for sharing ( p.s hope Heather was satisfied w the haircut😀)

    I just got this camera and lens combo. You have inspired me to try to capture some light stars and or some light trails. I am fairly new to photography and I know this will be very challenging. Any tips for a beginner attempting to do this? Thanks for showing and talking about how you got the shots and what your settings were. How is the camera's ISO response with the low light? Thanks again! Happy New Year-Stay Safe

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  2 года назад

      Thank you! The camera does OK in low-light situations. For light trails, you want to shoot at ISO 100 so it's no problem at all.

    Question for you, Phil. I see this was shot about a year ago. I'm wondering how you like your TT Artisan lens now that you've had it for a while. I got a TT Artisan 21mm lens when I got my Zfc. I loved it at first but I'm beginning to have some questions about it's quality / reliability at this point.

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  Год назад +1

      I still like the TT Artisan 35 f/1.4. I also bought a TT Artisan 23mm f/1.4 and never made a video about it because I don't like it.

    • @scillyautomatic
      @scillyautomatic Год назад

      @@PhilThach that's interesting. You do like the 35mm but not the 23mm, huh? Is it just look of the 23 or something more technical?
      I like my 21mm but it's still not quite as wide as I want. Lately I've been shooting night skies and it works really well for that. As for general use, it's not as crisp as I thought at first. But overall, I'm really happy to have it.
