I Shaved Only Half Of My Face For 1 Year

- It's been exactly one year since I began shaving only half of my face in order to compare results with my non-shaved side. Is at-home dermaplaning/ dry shaving really that good for transforming and improving the appearance of our skin? Girl, who know! But we're about to find out 🤷🏻♀️

What’s up!! The OG among you may have noticed that I can now pronounce dermaplaning - and I must say, I’ll never be the same.
VIDEO NOTES:
✍🏼This is the video where I show you step by step how this method is done: ruclips.net/video/LXbNKixcQqs/видео.html
✍🏼This is NOT shaving for hair removal purposes - it’s obviously a side effect but it’s not its purpose. The idea is to exfoliate, which is why oils or creams are not used on the face during the shaving portion. Doing so would add layers/obstacles between the blade and the skin.
Id really appreciate if you would give a review on wow dream coat, I love your reviews your super honest and genuine it would really mean alot.
Haha...great job!
I use dermaplaning like once a month and its more of a "deep peeling" than something I do to get rid of my peach fuzz. It makes my makeup sit better on my skin, but I like it most for the peeling effect and that my serums work better after I do it
Yes, YES and YASSS!! Same here.
@@beautyandthesavage ...👀, but what about acne you mentioned, plus you said at the end, it didn't make a big difference, sounded like it wasn't worth it... don't get it...
@@margottfon330 Hey Margott!! Great question! What I meant is that visually it seems like nothing changed. However, when I tried it, even for 1 week, I myself noticed a massive difference at close inspection, in looks and texture... a difference that doesn't translate well on video because some did notice it and others didn't (and I'm not here to convince people of anything, I'm just sharing my experience). Also, you can't touch my skin, obv. My husband did notice it BUT he gets to see me in person.
As per acne, if you are not diligent with cleaning your skin and tools - you'll probably end up with acne from shaving for the reasons explained in the series.
I used once, got acne spread to my entire face, when I had only on the nose. Nightmare to clean my face now
I realized that this method wasn’t for me because as you mentioned I got a ton of acne from it but it’s nice to see all the pros and cons ☺️
Khalilah Khaleesi Mother Of Flawlessness!! Sup girl!
How you're absolutely everywhere, you're a bot 😱
You shouldn't be getting acne from it at all. Makes no sense. Something you're doing is wrong.
@@chandracox6814 everyone’s skin is different, hers could be more sensitive
@@chandracox6814 are u a dermatologist or a certified esthetician?
I feel like not only peeling off dead skin you’re peeling off the layer that’s here to hold oil and to protect your face. That’s why you might get acne. Definitely not recommended for sensitive skin type, I can see this ends with a disaster on mine. Thanks for the video!
Wow, I truly appreciate how you present and edit your content! Others would have milked 10 minutes of nothing before giving any real information. But you never fail to always go straight to the point!! Love you for that! and will always know to click your videos when they pop up as a result 💖
Agreed. There’s humor in it too.
I find it so cool that you go through all that for us. I mean...1 year...It's a long time.
Your acne on the shaved side is easily explained. You might know, but I didn't hear it in the video. I love that you mentioned pillow cases and towels and masks! It really is important, I learned it at a young age. Daily towels, sometimes paper tissues instead.
The acne:
You shave off oil, as you said, plus your own protective layer of acid. That acid lets your skin be pH5 and not neutural pH7. And that way it prevents bacteria from entering into the skin. So if you shave it off, you really need to clean your face twice a day - some even more, others less - to keep the bacteria out. And like you said, you are more on the forgetful side of that.
I battle acne since I was 11-12 years old. I wash my face daily with a foam that is pH4. That way my skin goes from pH6-7 a little nearer pH5. Plus I do peelings 1-2 a week and I only use gel on my face. Nothing that adds oil. Been doing this for 8 years now and this combo finally got me to the point at which people don't believe me I have acne. Instead of pointing out how young I am (cos my skin makes them think so...).
This is SO helpful! Maybe you can answer my question that relates to this. I would appreciate it so much.
I started a skincare routine about a year ago that makes my skin look really good (cleansing, gentle BHA acid). But there’s a catch. If I skip cleansing my face just one day, i breakout the next day. Like 2 or 3 pimples. If I skip another day then I get a lot more.
Before I started this routine, I could go days without washing my face without breaking out. I got pimples here and there but they were unrelated to cleansing my skin.
Do you have any idea why this could be happening? And is there a way to be able to skip days without breaking out. Sometimes I go camping and can’t wash my face. Btw, I use the Vanicream gentle face cleanser which a lot of derms suggest because it’s gentle and for sensitive skin. Thank you again.
Nice!
What kind of peels do you use?

I use men's Razors since they are designed for the face, they are way easier to use. Make sure you use an oil that won't clog pores and use a gentle face wash afterwards and pat dry with towel, go in with a gentle toner for acne and moisturizer!!!
You looked very gorgeous in this video. Idk what is it but BEAUTIFUL!

If you wanna do this using the eyebrow razor type things she mentions. The plastic ones she shows are indeed a lot of plastic waste as she points out. But they make one with disposable heads! I think it's from Schick and it is called a dermaplaning razor, but you could use it for your brows, it's the same type of blade. But yeah, less plastic waste and more beginner friendly than a straight razor.
I like the one from verse skincare, it the easiest one I tried so far , and you only throw away the top, but reuse the handle
@@Blackroseofplue the Schick one is like that too. I'll have to check out the one from Versed!
🙌🏻🙌🏻😍Finally someone who knows and clarifies the difference between dermaplaning (pro or DIY) and one of the multiple ways to remove hair from face or any other area: shaving. 🧛🏻♀️🖤
Please try a red lentil face pack , its a tackle god gift for anti aging, pigmentation and for a healthy skin
I thought the difference is really super visible, I’ve always been against shaving the face, the comparison with your shaved side and unshaved side made me rethink the possibility of doing it once in a while.
Love your energy ❤️❤️
For the record I’ve been shaving my face with a regular leg-shaving razor for about 5 or 6 years now and I never want to stop again! My skin is beautiful and soft and I actually break out less and my makeup applies so much better

You're such a sweetheart for real 💙💙 every single video you make is incredibly insightful and much needed. Those kind of experiments are insanely valuable. Your dedication is truly admirable so thank you for that. I hope you consider a similar thing for legs or underarms because removing hair there is a pain.

Hey sweetie I’ve missed you 🤍🥰 I’m not very hairy in my face so this is not something I would try but I love that you go through things like this for us; your level of commitment is extraordinary 🙏🌹 Happy Monday and week my friend 💞🌸 Bestos 😘
i’ve shaved the sides of my face to get rid of sideburns and wondered why i got closed comedones on those areas… how did i not think it was because of shaving??? well, guess i’ll have to stop 😭
Hello Brenda I love you videos and I wish if you can teach us how to do video editing like your amazing videos
What?!! That’s super sweet, girl! Thanks so much sis!!
I dermaplane with wet/damp skin, less painful, no irritation
I started shaving my face and neck cause I have oily skin with a history or pimples and acne it's been more then a year although I had to treat my face better, it's result was osm for me my acne pores and bumpy skin has reduced fairly much
I tried threading my face it made a lot of red bumps I'm never doing it again
@Bredra Blanco I cannot say thank you enough as I have always wondered about thia. I'm oily with senstitive skin and I have a somewhat hairy face, and I have always wondered about dermaplaning. Now I know for sure it isnt for me.
Thank you for pursuing the things I have no time to do but always wondered about. Loveee and truly appreciate your content!!!
I'm planning to do it but now since you mention about acne, I will not do it anymore. My skin is prone acne and I only wash my face 1-2x a day plus I don't wear foundation on my face since I'm WFH. Thank you for this video. You have save my skin. I will just embrace my facial hair and just exfoliate 1 or 2 x week just to remove dead skin.
I stopped shaving both sides of my face since March.
Did you see any difference?

I did this at home too, and whenever i wasn't able to clean my skin routinely, i would get acnes on shaved side. So i stopped doing it. And i switched to better skincare, ie, retinol. I did this shaving thingy in hopes to have a flawless makeup base, but retinol helped me more than shaving. After using retinol on my skin, my makeup looked so so smooth and i finnally was able to do the no makeup makeup look which wasn't possible before. The foundation always caked up or melted off cuz my skin was too greasy.
So my final verdict is : this method doesn't work well. So it's not worth trying because the results are very minimal.
I've been thinking a lot about removing my facial hair and the best way to do it. Shaving has never been a desirable option for me. But THREADING on the other hand...
I thread my moustache, hurts and i often tear up but I've gotten used to it. Also its a minute of pain for a smooth upper lip for 2 weeks👌
I use an Epilady. It stings and I don't do much at a time, but for $35 it's a big convenience. I have waxed, but I worried about putting hot wax on my face. You have to let it cool to just the right temperature. I tried the weaker face wax, but it didn't grip my hair at all, so I had to use leg wax. The Epilady was a nice upgrade.
I see a radiant glow on the half of your face you DID shave ... And your home is gorgeous 😍👍
My problem with this is like... can't you just get the same results if you exfoliate lol? A good exfoliation method
Please try mustard oil for hair growth
Pls put videos regularly 💜
Working on it, Rooby babe!! ♡
I’m impressed you did only 1 side for a year
How did you get rid of ingrown hair please make video on dat cuz I am also facing the same problem
Where can i buy this razor? What's the brand?
After everything that you have tried, is there any one that you actually recommend or that you feel stick out in your mind as being more beneficial than the rest?
I got break outs when i tried dermaplaning few times. Wouldnt do that anymore because of that

Yeah Shaving does increase acne💯
Wont the hair get thicker on face?
Not relevant question but can I ask the link of vanity mirror
tbh your right side looks more airbrush with makeup on and less lines compared to your left side (our right)
facial waxing was something I tried once, gave in to peer pressure, I have 3 small scars on my right eye where the lady tore little chunks of skin off. Never again
Nooooo!!!! I’m so sorry!! 💔 Thanks for sharing… these are the risks people should know they’re taking.
hair removel on the face is haram in islam
@@esra9993 Actually, no. According to Questions on Islam: When we look at the fiqh books, we see the following judgments:
- The hairs on the face that make a woman ugly can be removed. If things like beard and mustache that are normally seen in men appear in women, it is permissible to remove them.
“Ibn Abidin says beard and mustache are not natural in women therefore it is mustahab (recomended) to remove them!
The best way to remove those hairs is not shaving but using natural depilatories like wax or powder.” ( Kadın İlmihali, Mürşide Uysal, p. 370)
@@edennis8578 youre talking about beard im talking about normal facial fair that is normal for women
Mine arent that thin or cheap quality plastics. I bought my last face shaver in 2019 and then after 4 years last week ordered new ones. That one worked absolutely fine all these years.
Its all about quality. Quality blade, quality plastic. Overall quality.
How can we remove sun tan from our body? Please make a video 🥺🤍
I love u r all videos 🥰🥰🥰also love u so much 🥰🥰
🥹 sweetest girl! Thanks!!
I'll stick to my AHA and BHA, and of course sunscreen.
I definitely get a lot of acne when I shave my face so I’ll just keep it strictly to my mustache and side burns
I used to have millions of breakouts after shaving. But now I have sort of cracked the code of shaving-
1. I have super sensitive skin. So I don't wash my face too much after I shaved it because it's even more sensitive now and rubbing it too much with cleansing products only hearts the skin. I wash only once a day most of the time, or twice depending on the day
2. I shave on my dry face without any soap or water. Because the moisture of water kinda makes my skin more vulnerable (if that makes sense)
3. After I shave, I wash it properly and then apply aloe vera gel on it. Aloe vera soothes irritated skin. No breakouts whatsoever
I know lots of people keep saying that this won't make the hair grow thicker but I will come back prickly after a while. My mom is a blonde and she used to puck hairs. She got tired of it and started using this method. Fast forward 2 years.. when I kiss her cheek it's prickly. I don't see anything but it feels like whiskers. I got the nerve to mention it to her and suggested her let me wax it for her instead. She got upset and started rubbing all over her face. She said it wasn't prickly at all. I hate kissing her now. It's definitely prickly
That's not because the hair grows thicker, its because when you shave, you get rid of the soft point of the hair (which is thinner because it has to, to get across the skin and "be borned" on the outside + interaction with the environment also makes it thinner). When you shave you cut the hair diagonally and therefore it seems thicker, but it's the same. There are some images on that on google search about this...
Even my skin gets soo bumpy and tiny acne when I shave my face :( any advice for that?
Girl, it really is not for everyone. I would suggest stop and look for an alternative to whatever you seek. What I mean is, are you trying to exfoliate? Maybe try chem peels, etc. Is it for hair removal? Check with your dermatologist to see which options suit your skin. Many hugs!!
For thicker hair Arab girls like me we will get thicker hair and hair bumps on our skin if we just use shaving so I disagree it isn’t a rare condition it’s just a condition that isn’t as popular around westerners since your hair overall is lighter and thinner than ours due to different genetics and races. The best way of hair removal is through laser for the long run for girls like me and for generally speaking if you would like to stop the hair growth entirely over time. I totally recommend it if you find a good laser clinic with a good doctor that can cater to your specific needs according to your hair type and skin colour🙏👌 it also helped my skin looked clearer and lighter over time due to the laser hair removal and with time my skin is used to it now so it doesn’t redden or break out or get any reactions to laser anymore after years of doing it and consistently following up with my appointments on time. Unfortunately it is pricey and it isn’t the best option if you are extremely sensitive to this and cannot withstand laser whatsoever.
No wrong, you will not get thicker hair, what will happen is that since it’s cut at an angle it’ll feel a lil rough on the face. Touching metal on your face does not automatically change your genetics and give you thicker hair, if that were the case all bald men would have been able to regrow thicker hair by simply shaving it.
That's a myth. Your hair does not grow back thicker after shaving.
@@maidakhan6974 ah I understand but in my case it made my body hair worse and it grew faster and thicker before I resorted to laser. It isn’t the case with everyone of course. I am only sharing a different POV since everyone faces different experiences. 😁
@@MaryamRx_ sister it’s not a matter of pov, it’s science. Yea the hair feels rougher as it emerges after a shave due to the angle it’s cut at
@@maidakhan6974 I don't even have thick hair and after shaving it feels super rough because of what's been said above. It only feels like it's thicker. Can't change genetics with a razor. Hard agree
I tried it last month the veey first time but now feel like a little grown hairs which can be feel by fingers from down to upside a little rough.. Which earlier was not... though i have normal hair growth. Why is it.. Does it will be darker and harder later i am scared now
It's like when you cut your hair, the point will be rough and will make you a little itchy. After a bit the end of the hair will have thinned out a bit and won't feel the same as when it was cut. The same happens with hairs. Shaving is like cutting, so when it grows enough for you to feel it, you can notice how "sharp" it is. The hair isn't thicker, it just has been cut, so it's completely normal
@@EIIy thanks😊
shaving my face made my skin really soft and clear up and my skin use to be dry and flaky but now it’s not, and my hair isn’t growing thiker
It’s not a rare condition it’s quite common to have poly kystique ovaries.
You mean Polycystic ovaries ? And she never said anything about polycystic ovaries when she said "it may happen because of a rare condition". She was litteraly implying that thick hairs may grow because of some type of condition and NOT by shaving.
I don't know why you brought up PCOs lol
The way she worded it was a little confusing. It sounded almost like she was saying that only rare conditions make you grow thicker her rather than only rare conditions will make you grow thicker hair from shaving so I could understand why someone's next thought would be about pcos because it's a condition that makes you grow thick coarse facial hair and it's unfortunately not that rare
Using oil makes it a lot easier
First of all im scared to shave my face this way. Secondly, I have a question, would u or anyone reading prefer using Nair over shave your fave?
I have a friend who used Nair for years. She now uses an epilator.
I shave.
I use an Epilady.
Well it's not about the thicness of the new grown hair, it's more about the forces the old hair endured. For really dark haired people that isn't a thing but for example you have slightly brown hair, that hair has been exposed to the sun alot for month/years, it is bleached out. Now, if you shave those bleached out hairs, the regrowth will obviously not be bleached and therefor it will be darker and more noticeable. 🤗
I don’t think that makes sense as hair grows in a cycle and facial hair is very short so would fall out and regrow not get bleached for years
@@Aliciae411 maybe, i don't know ^^
tbh I luv shaving it way faster and easier but nowadays, my hair get worse at some areas idk if the problem with my body or shaving, but it's f annoying me like I have sensitive oily skin that not OK with any other ways so I think I'm stuck with shaving
I get you 100%. I guess we are always going trough phases, I’m also in my “suddenly got sensitive skin” phase 😩

I gave this method a try at home and got severe acne like never before in my life, not even in my teen years, it was painful and traumatizing for me, now I'm taking antibiotics and other acne treatment creams... I guess if you have sensitive skin like mine, don't do it girl, get laser or something. Personally i'll keep my peachy hair like that.
I have a pigmentation because of shaving my skin
Same , i always had acne after shaving my face.
But now it has changed. I have been washing my face before shaving, clean the shaver with dettol or alchol, then shave face.
I do it once a month
I have pcos so alottt of fine facial hair
I am very hairy rip ive tried waxing and shaving, i developed acne ingrown and red bumps . Its Its unfortunately not for me ,learned the hard way as it left me with scars ingrowns and bumps.

It protects us from sun germs ... That's why shaving can increase acne
But i don't like my hairy looking face😭
