Enough women say that their facial hair grows back longer that you should please consider their experiences. It might not be true for everyone but it certainly happens.

When you shave body hair it will appear to (but not actually) grow back thicker and darker because the hair now has a blunt end instead of a natural tapered end.
@@xakirax_8864 if it appears to grow back darker then that's still just as bad, since what we're discussing here (whether it's 'safe' to shave face hair) is because of visual appearance in the first place
@@NoNo-sp8pi Exactly... We know 'it just appears' arguement but isn't this all about appearance. Moreover who has the time to do it again n again once we shave our naturally tapered ends.

False. I’ve seen my cousin’s and clients’ hair get thicker after several months of them shaving, even in some areas where they only had peach fuzz. That’s why I believe the many clients who would tell me that shaving (regardless of direction) caused their to grow thicker in areas where they barely even had peach fuzz, all because aestheticians kept shaving the peach fuzz. One of my friends started wearing only long shirts at around age 27 because her lower-back hair got thicker AND longer after some months of shaving it, all because her aesthetician promised it wouldn’t grow back thicker. I worked at a threading-only salon, and since peach fuzz populates much more densely than any other type of hair, we would simply shave it instead of spending an hour on threading a client’s entire face. I literally saw women’s hair get thicker over the course of several months. My cousin’s barely-visible hair on her arms, thighs and unfortunately her butt, are what she most regrets shaving. I’m glad I don’t work at that place anymore because I knew I was telling a general lie.

@@elenasullivan4522 I first want to congradulate you on being a SURVIVOR...YOU ROCK!!! Secondly, I agree with you 100%...to a certain degree. I have seen for myself on more than a few instances, hair fall out and when it grows back it's a totally different texture. I can speak for myself and I will also tell you that there are some medications that can change the texture of one's hair after use or while use. You're correct. My friends hair came back and it was a totally different grade of hair. Here's the difference though...its the chemicals in the meds that alter what's in the bloodstream. The bloodstream is what feeds the hair follicles so therefore, there will be a difference. The shaving that is being talked about here is a bit different though. There's no damage to the follicles.
Y'all cosmetologists are not wrong, but MISLEADING. If you chop the tip of a pyramid off, the base is going to be thicker. That literally means your hair feels courser. Anyone who has shaved knows this and knows after some weeks the "tip" comes back, but it takes a long time, and in that time, it is quite literally thicker

@@alq2951 that’s just incorrect. The main difference is when waxing, you’re actually removing the hair’s bulb underneath the skin, which makes your results appear smoother longer, because a new bulb has to form. This is different from shaving because when you do that, you’re not removing the bulb but essentially cutting the hair just to surface level, so you see regrowth faster. Hope this helps!

Anyone saying people laughing don't know better... I am laughing at them... Yeah they do. Anyone who experienced it know very well. Better than strangers who do not know their bodies. Truth is, it could grow back thicker or it could grow back the way it was. Apparently its a matter of chance. I removed hair on my jaw which were very thin, some came back as beard.... I know someone who removed hair on one leg few times (dont ask me why, was a teenager) and now they have thick hair in one leg and fine hair in another. You could try removing once/small less visible area to see how things work out for you if you are hesitant. That's my suggestion.

It seems darker because before shave your hair has been sunlighted so it's lighter than the new grown hair, but it's the same. It's like cutting your hair, before do it the end of the hair it's usually lighter (if you're exposed to the sun) and thiner because it's damaged because of the time, but when you look at the start of your hair, it usually is thicker

@tayla I’ve never seen them meant for the face like that. I’ve seen the brow ones and those scare me. One thing I do is skin brushing. My whole body. So I don’t find need to do this much anymore. the shaving itself did not cause the darker and thicker hair. if you go a while without shaving your face doesn't grow new hair. so if you didnt shave your face for a long time, you wouldnt grow that new thicker hair made by puberty. shaving the hair just clears the way for hair that would have grown in eventually anyways.

Cosmetologyst student here 🙋🏻♀️ NO, absolutely not. Reasons for this: 1) It’s a much stronger form of a mechanical peeling, which removes the dead skin cells, But not the ones which need more time to their cycle. This is a brutal “trendy” way for peeling 2) Don’t shave your face. Yea, It’s good to get rid of peach fuzz, But it will only get rid of it for a couple of days, max. a week. If you would wax it or use other methods which remove the hairs from the bottom, your peach fuzz will probably be gone in less than a year.
I’ve tossed waxing due to the fact it’s very damaging for the skin on your face. Our face has the thinnest skin. So I switched up and have been having my face threaded for years now. I still get lots of peach fuzz and hair. The only way I’ll be able to get rid of it is multiple treatment sessions of laser hair removal. But I heard that it is so painful on the face that I have put the idea off for a bit. So I feel like the last part of that isn’t accurate.

No one actually needs to shave their face if they don't want to. It's certainly not necessary for skincare products to do their job. Just exfoliate, gently of course, and that issue is resolved. I do remove hair from my upper lip, have since I was a kid because of jet black hair. Made me entirely too self-conscious not to shave it. But it's the only place I shave. They’re dermaplaning IN the direction of the hair growth, not shaving AGAINST it. It’s like sugaring vs waxing. Shaving and waxing will give you ingrown hairs because you damage the hair follicle by moving AGAINST the direction of your hair growth. Google it - you’ll see.
Hair is like a blade of grass. When you cut grass, it loses its thin pointed top, making the grass seem thicker. That grass isn’t any thicker than it already was, it just no longer has the thin on the top part. As the grass grows back out though, it regains its thin top. It’s the same way with your hair.
it's not scientifically possible tho... and just because the new hair isn't tapered doesn't mean it's thicker. it just means it's all one size. when it falls out the new hair will grow back normal and tapered. don't listen to idiots. listen to science
Everyone is a different human? I’m mean yeah. But we are humans. With blood and hair and skin. I agree with you not shaving your face though, I don’t trust you to handle sharp objects
“It wont grow thicker or coarse.” This is why sometimes I dont trust dermatologists. They will make u believe that u need something done & will make u pay overpriced treatments that will not work & will just make ur skin worse. I have so many acne before and I tried to go to different dermatologists but I stopped because it’s expensive and nothing works. They just let me buy so many products & treatments (that also hurts like hell) that made my skin worse!! I so agree.. The funniest and weirdest thing I’ve found about my face is that.. it’s better off not cleansed or scrubbed. That’s from experience-I would get burst of pimples every time I cleansed/etc- no matter what product I’d use. But then I got educated about it a couple months ago from a random insta video- apparently the mites in our face skin does the clean up work for free. They regulate the skin. It’s a whole ecosystem in our face.. it’s amazing. I don’t clean my face with products. Water is good.. warm and even cold.. n dry tissue .. sometimes, rarely, a light cleanser.. Thankfully, I haven’t had any breakouts since then.. lotion etc is good too.. but mild as can be..
I think you have to find a licensed esthetician . . .not that a licensed is a complete guarantee that someone isn't just a greedy hack. But yeah that's why I get all my skincare ropes from forums and Reddit and normal people who have nothing to gain and make no profit. I've found some of the best skincare for my skin that way. Just figuring out what's worth trying and what's not is also something you have to learn along the way
If you try this, do 1 tiny section of your face and leave it for a week. You need to see how it will react on you. I recommend the square inch right on top of your jawbone (like where it’s pointy below ur ear) so if you get acne it will be hidden easier!
I really do not get this idea that hair doesn't grow back thicker and darker. Everywhere I have ever shaved it has so why do people keep saying it doesnt?
I don’t think there’s any studies on the subject period so I’m not sure why they instantly deny it. It does generally seem to be the case that hair grows back thicker after you shave when you ask people about it. It could be your body responding by replacing the missing hair. Because that hairs there for a reason
Scientifically it's not true! Doesn't matter where you're from but the razors aren't even touching the route of your hair so don't believe stuff like this.
Long ago, coz I'm old now, we had a trend of shaving our arms in school. I had seizures when I was younger, and the medicine I took for it, made me more hairy. Yet, my hairs were not dark. I tried this trend of shaving my arms, and it grew back coarse and dark... Years, MANY years later, I'm 33 now and was probably 13 when I had done this, my hairs have turned back blonde and I'm not as hairy as I was, after having shaved my arms.... Since then, I listened to my mother when she said once you start shaving, your going to have to keep shaving.... She was a licensed beautician. I barely shave my upper thighs, I go nowhere near my arms with a razor, MUCH LESS, my face. Yes, I gotta pluck a few wild hairs here and there but, I wouldn't want to see what would happen, after taking a razor to my face. 😬 Ladies, don't do this. You'll regret it.
I’m Afab, and my mother and father told me that if I shave my face I’ll grow a beard, and they got really serious with it, and I don’t believe it. I know it may seem darker since the base of the hairs are growing in, but shaving makes your face look healthier and feels better.
Ooof! It happened to my husband he went from not being able to grow a mustache to getting a job that requires he shaves every day...now dude can grow a beard. Or maybe he just went through a second puberty?? Lmao 🤣
Wait, I mean we're Arabs let's confuse people here و الله انه لمن الشجاعة ان تحلقي شعر وجهك، بصراحة لم أتجرأ على فعل ذلك من قبل، استعملت الخيط مرتين و كانت نتائجه جد إيجابية
An Arab here, and I can barely see the hair on my face, even though I have very defined eyebrows and lashes. And my sister has been shaving, it doesn't become darker at all or grown thicker.
personally my facial hair grew darker around the areas I shaved, and even if I wax it off, it still grows back thick. I started lightly shaving areas with acne cuz it helps to get rid of them :)
It definitely has to be different for everyone when it comes to shaving because hair can absolutely grow back darker and thicker for some. The very first time I shaved my legs, my leg hair was shiny blonde and thin, but it was long. I shaved and my leg hair grew back coarse, wiry, and solid black. Yeah, not risking my face.
It could be blonde due to sun bleaching, if so, had it not been sun bleached over time I can assure you it would have been the same colour. I’m qualified in dermatology.
@@MyRandomOpinionsXO Because wearing pants all the time before ever shaving my legs caused my hair to undergo "sun bleaching" and maked it like long peach fuzz in texture. Sure. Makes sense.
@@midnitethedsixl4601 well how am I supposed to know all you wear is pants I can only go on the common denominator. But sure I’m not qualified of anything and also, since you know so much, the sun penetrates clothes. That big ball of massive burning fire? Yeah love it doesn’t care about the force field that is your flimsy little leggings and trousers. There you go, I made sense. The more you know 💫
@@MyRandomOpinionsXO Oh wow one typo, amazing how you had to make a separate comment about that. The thing with sun exposure is that it sure does have to care a lot about whether something is in the sun for years for it to become sun bleached. Not something covered by denim jeans that isn't out in the sun long enough to be bleached. If that were the case then my eyebrows would have gone to shiny blonde peach fuzz texture long ago. I admit I'm not qualified in anything, I only have a sister who went to cosmetology school and is certified, licensed, and knows everything about hair because of what she was taught at this school. I can only go off what she knows, rather than a YT comment section.

When you shave body hair it will appear to (but not actually) grow back thicker and darker because the hair now has a blunt end instead of a natural tapered end.
Can you scream this please these comments are driving me crazy
I took photo proofs of my sister doing and it grew longer and thicker and darker
@@NoNo-sp8pi well no actually because he also confirmed that it removes dead skin, helps products penetrate better, and some other helpful stuff. so it's a better reason than just removing the hair for appearance

@@foafoa7323 is too expensive 😞
Jeez, it won’t actually PHYSICALLY grow back darker or courser but it will APPEAR like it has because of the blunted end of the hair after shaving.
That is true
And that blunt end is temporary, after a while it tapers off again due to friction
and over time the sun will naturally bleach the hairs making them look lighter in colour
I think someone said this exact thing but thank you miss copier

There’s other aspects in their body causing hair thickness yet they chalk it up to shaving makes my hairs thicker and fear mongering people.
As some of you pointed in the comments... just because it works for some doesn't mean it's for everybody. My mom started shaving her face years ago and now she has a beard, a fast growing and thick beard. I don't see why any woman would want to start shaving their face but better try on a small area before going commando. I remember about the eyebrow drama, when it was fashionable to make them as small as possible and some women completely lost theirs. I removed the hairs between my eyebrows just this one time and they never grew back so I never had to redo it. I had a women colleague that needs to retouch that area every week and know countless women with no eyebrows so please...do not suppose that if something works for a friend it will work for you. I have a lot of respect for this doctor and I can't believe he is condoning this clip.
She’s disproving myths. Could it happen? Maybe I guess??? I couldn’t see how shaving can affect the follicles under your skin but sure. Plus shaving would not cause your mom to grow a full beard. I would see a doctor and recheck your diets or medication she might be taking. My grandma grew one after changing medication before. Though it could just be generational naturally and would have possibly happened regardless. Plus they’re not saying it’s a trend just showing the benefits of doing it. Not everyone can handle specific healthy meals but is bad to show the benefits??? I’ve shaved, waxed and tweezed for years now because I’ve had a pretty fuzzy face since I was a kid and nothings happened. My hairs grows back normally. My mom and aunts do the same and neither of them has seen problems. Just Google statistics or see a dang doctor. I have no idea why people act like shaving is a death sentence go to a doctor if you’re scared to try it or don’t to it at all.
DONT SHAVE YOUR FACE!! It's a life long commitment, the hair returns within a few days, you may get ingrown hairs anywhere & the regrowth may not BE thicker but it LOOKS it!!

This is legit shows how society affects females.
Some females even grow a beard but society doesn't normalize it.
Probably because they don't understand the condition that causes the facial growth
@@ShihTzuVideosTV it's said that if a female who has high testosterone levels, it will be called as hormonal imbalance, but in reality if we look at nature, every mammal has different hormonal levels regardless if their sex is a male or a female. The same comes with human, but over decades gender roles changed our view on it. There are many people who were born with so called hormonal 'imbalance' and they are treated with hormone therapy at a young age. It's also seen in our evolution, the more society treats it the more humans become immune to it. And ppl may say "that cannot happen that fast" but infact we also became immune to different types of illness in seconds with society's vaccines affecting our genes.
@@ShihTzuVideosTV The comment was just about the facial hair growth. Of course if a women has a beard she will see doctor. It's the facial hair and making fun of it without knowing about the condition aka, the societal pressure of looking a certain way despite it being out of your control.

My friend shaved her peach fuzz (above her lip) and it grew back like man stubble.. A LOT darker and thicker. So.. I don’t know why so many people say it doesn’t grow back like that. She eventually had to save up and get laser hair removal done because it was so bad.. I recommend just waxing or using facial hair bleach (Sally Hansen works for me).
the shaving itself did not cause the darker and thicker hair. if you go a while without shaving your face doesn't grow new hair. so if you didnt shave your face for a long time, you wouldnt grow that new thicker hair made by puberty. shaving the hair just clears the way for hair that would have grown in eventually anyways.
@@jamgin9890 this may be true in some cases, but not all. I think that’s the problem with this whole topic, people think it applies for everyone when it doesn’t. I didn’t shave or wax for almost a year and the hairs grey even darker as weeks passed. I finally decided to start waxing it and it got significantly better. NO, absolutely not. Reasons for this:
1) It’s a much stronger form of a mechanical peeling, which removes the dead skin cells, But not the ones which need more time to their cycle. This is a brutal “trendy” way for peeling
2) Don’t shave your face. Yea, It’s good to get rid of peach fuzz, But it will only get rid of it for a couple of days, max. a week. If you would wax it or use other methods which remove the hairs from the bottom, your peach fuzz will probably be gone in less than a year.
... yea much needed info
..I wud like to know what everyone thinks about the "Dyson hair remover" product
@@letsjustdirtbike We are currently learning about diferrent methods for reducing facial hair. As of now, waxing if the best, as it doesn’t remove any of your skin, unlike razoring -which, as I mentioned, is removing not only dead, But alive skin cells as well.
I started dermaplaning recently and I love the results! My face is softer, smoother and I have noticed that I dont need to use as much of my facial products as before to get them to smooth across evenly. And now I have to shave my whole face and it’s prickly everywhere it’s so awful she ruined my face! I wish I never ever said yes! One time is all it takes, it’ll never be the same as before 😔
have you tried waxing instead of continuing to shave?
I would have to grow out the hair really long which would be embarrassing to be able to wax plus it would cause me to break out... I used to wax my upper lip when I was a teen and it always lifted my skin and I hated the times when I’d have to grow it out 😝 I can’t imagine doing my whole face 😔
@@s.s4239 Use eyebrow bleach until it's long enough to wax. Wax it, and just rehabilitate the ingrown hairs. If they refuse to be rehabilitated, use electrolysis on the remaining unruly hairs.

@Kitten KC SAME! I was fine right after but I tried twice and I break out badly when the hairs start coming back in! Especially on my chin and lips.
I plucked the center of my eyebrows because I personally didn't want to look like Frieda Khalo, regardless of how sexy she actually was. I never felt like it was a look I could pull off. In fact, I felt like I looked more like Bert from Bert and Ernie on Sesame Street! 😂 Just not attractive! The rest of my face has peach fuzz. It's freaking weird how that works. I don't do anything except gently exfoliate my fave using a warm washcloth while cleansing. It gets the job done without harming the skin.
@@TianXiaoMao it's because you get dead skin cells over the hair growing that causes a painful pumps, try exfolating your face regulary. Yes, Kitten, some women do report that they do break out if they shave their face. I have thick eyebrows, so I pluck mine occasionally. I also have hair that grows by the sides of my mouth up to my nose so I pluck those, too.
Facial hair DOES grow back darker and thicker once shaven. I am living proof of that !

It did grow darker for me now I have a crazy think mustache and have to wax it 😭
@Austin Lee It doesn't matter if it's actually darker, it **looks** darker and that's enough to make it a problem.
I shave my mustache and it grows back the same, I ain’t got time to go to the salon and wax that every 2 weeks 😂 however I tried shaving the very thin hair in my happy trail (it was dark blonde and barely noticeable) and it grew back darker and a little thicker so I guess it depends on the part of your body.
Maybe it depends on the person? Because my mom told me from personal experience.

I’m never gonna shave my face cause I just hate the idea of blades going near my face. I’m not stupid enough to think peach fuzz would grow back thicker and darker.
I shave my face sometimes with a small trimmer. No razor involved
There are very tiny and safe tools made specifically for shaving off the bits of peach fuzz that I've been using since I was like 12 ( aka they're extremely easy to use and incredibly harmless. You'd really have to force it down to tear any skin. )
I recommend getting a eyebrow razor from amazon, they are sharp but not sharp enough to cut you with it. I've gone pretty rough with it and never cut myself with it
I always shave my eyebrows with an eyebrow razor, which you can get at target, they’re not like normal razors and much safer and easier to use
As long as you don't have and your face is wet it won't cut you. Unless you apply a lot of pressure. Plus I'm pretty sure if your a female you won't grow enough hair for it to matter
I just want to say beware of this, I regret having shaved my face cause the peach fuzz is definitely now more noticeable than it ever was before- and I typically break out when I do.
same happened to me, I shaved my face when I was 7 or something out of boredom and now I have to live with he consequences 😭 i moved to waxing recently which irritates my skin but i chose to live with some pimples on my cheeks rather than hair

Use an electric razor with OXY benzoyl peroxide face wash.

This is why sometimes I dont trust dermatologists. So what I did is I let my skin breathe & I did my own research about different products & ingredients until eventually I found the right skincare for me and made my skin clear and acne-free.
Dorothy Si - You are correct about the dermatologists in the USA. The best skin care by dermatologists are from 1.) Mexico 2.) Germany 3.) China. It's true, you have to do your own research and buy your own products that work for you.
You can shave your face on your own. It has the same benefits as dermaplaning and not you hair will not grow back thicker or coarser.
What worked, what products please?
I think you have to find a licensed esthetician . . .not that a licensed is a complete guarantee that someone isn't just a greedy hack.
But yeah that's why I get all my skincare ropes from forums and Reddit and normal people who have nothing to gain and make no profit. I've found some of the best skincare for my skin that way.
Just figuring out what's worth trying and what's not is also something you have to learn along the way

I tried this trend of shaving my arms, and it grew back coarse and dark... Years, MANY years later, I'm 33 now and was probably 13 when I had done this, my hairs have turned back blonde and I'm not as hairy as I was, after having shaved my arms....

@@midnitethedsixl4601 “maked” Its ‘made’ I think you should make sense 😂😂😂
