That commercial is from 1970. I heard the Peter, Paul, and Mary jet plane song in 1970. I saw many United Airlines "Friendly Skies" commercials in 1970. Those commercials were later parodied as "Fly the Friendly Skies of Vietnam" on T-shirts I saw in 1971.

Maybe it first aired in late '69?

I was about to write that there are no standards today, but I recently had several wonderful flights. 2 on United and 1 on Lufthansa. The crews were lovely!❤

Stereotypical unfair criticism of uses 55 years old out of the current context. By that rule, by mid 2070s your behavior and mine will be considered evil in a lot of aspects, no matter how correct we consider it at present.

Do you have any additional information about it first airing in 1970? Let me know whenever you get a chance. Thanks!

United has a reputation for dragging people. (Ba-dum-bump.)

@@RobertCass Robert--thanks for your post of this vintage gold. Shows how we all have changed. Whenever I fly (mostly Southwest), I salute the flight attendants--it is a hard, demanding job. When there is time, I like talking with them at the galley.

@@helios1912 I agree - it's a demanding job, and definitely not for the claustrophobic, so whenever a flight attendant gives his or her demonstration of safety procedures before the plane takes off, I pay attention. And if the person seated next to me doesn't pay attention I tell him or her, "You were being disrespectful, so if we're forced to make an emergency water landing, I'm using you as a flotation device."

@@RobertCass Huh? First of all, I can't remember the last time I saw the FAs giving the safety demonstrations, they are shown on the IFE screens. And second, if you're flying the same aircraft on the same route over and over again, do you really need to put down your device and pay attention AGAIN to the procedure for buckling your seatbelt, etc.? I hope I never sit next to you on a plane is all I'm saying...

@@lisalu910 I've never actually threatened to use someone as a flotation device for not paying attention to a flight attendant's safety demonstration. Maybe my sarcastic comment from three years ago was unclear. But the flight attendants are still giving those demonstrations on the flights I'm taking, even in 2022.
