While Revis had his island, Deion was a continent. The guy was simply the best ever and was not only gifted physically, his football acumen was off the charts. I don't think we will see his equal in our lifetimes.

@@teen_laqueefaTy Law, Champ Bailey, Charles Woodson, Sherman - all some of the best cornerbacks to ever play the game. But all are still at least an entire level below Deion. Deion was something the position had never seen before and probably never will again. He impacted all three sides of the ball and could completely take over games. So unusual for that position.
The Falcons have never been one of my favorite teams and I was only ever slightly interested in them when Deion played for them. And here I am 2 hours and 15 minutes into a 7 part series that has another 4 parts. You dudes can make ANYTHING interesting. My hats off to you guys.
The NFL really doesn’t know how handle its players being abusive, does it? And Jon really isn’t a fan of Jerry Glanville. Loved Alex’s whole piece on Ironhead!
I’ve already said it but I’ll say it again: This is the greatest series of vids I’ve ever watched on YT. Granted, I’m a life-long Falcons fan, but still, seeing the history of my beloved and oft-ignored team related with such seriousness and gravitas, it really makes me emotional inside. Nobody has ever explored the history and lore of the Atlanta Falcons like this before (likely because they have always been known as the lovable losers). It almost feels as though Jon isn’t making fun of the Falcons but is, instead, glorifying their great (if still tragic) history. Bring on every Falcons fan’s dream-come-true: The 1998 SB run!!!!
That's because Jon isn't making fun of the Falcons, and is indeed glorifying their great (if still tragic) history. Some of the best stories come from those who are almost good enough to make it, but fall short. His Mariners series is very similar in tone for those reasons, and it's beloved by baseball fans for doing so...
Bruh, I’ve lived in New Orleans for 30 years, and haven’t laughed nearly as hard as I have whenever they bring up how petty and bitter the ATL/NOLA shit is. Esp when Kofie said, as a Falcons fan “If the Falcons went 2-14, but those two wins came against the Saints, Falcons fans would see that as a success”. Yup. Same over on this side. :)
I was initially going to say when Left Eye came up that I filled out my episode Bingo card. But then Jon Bois went all Jon Bois and brilliantly and beautifully described what made Left Eye so great.
That Jerry Glanville Footbrawl game looks like a Genesis port of the arcade coin-op Pigskin 621 AD. It's not really a football game, it's more like a made up ball sport with some football elements. It pits Vikings vs Barbarians (or whoever they are), you get points for scoring touchdowns and maintaining possession for a significant amount of time, and you can pick up and use weapons strewn about the field. Deaths are very common. If you run up the score the opposing team summons a new troll player and the game gets extra hard. Great fun all around.
You ever just check the time bar because you think this episode is ending? Because how could it not on such a beautiful note. Then you realize theres plenty more left? That's what Jon Bois does. Amazing.
29:16 -- One day later, the Houston Oilers tried the same thing as the Falcons in their playoff game against the Jets. Trailing 17-10 in the final seconds, New York had one last Hail Mary attempt to tie the game but the pass was intercepted. Rather than going out of bounds to end the game, Bubba McDowell (who played for Glanville in his rookie season) lateraled the ball to a teammate. After a series of laterals, the play was finally stopped and the Oilers won. I remember watching the game on TV and the announcers blasting the Oilers for their careless stupidity.
Many years later the 49ers would fumble a return after a late game clinching interception against the Falcons. I remember writing a second by second account of that play in a blog post. If was the most Falcons thing ever but this time the 49ers were the chumps.
The Chargers vs Patriots in the 2007 playoffs I want to say, could be wrong about the year, showed what can happen if you intercept it then fumble it back. Chargers probably win that game but Patriots score, eventually win the game and the Super Bowl.
That certain team has to be "Dorktown" worthy Filled with exciting moments, weird facts and stats to not only the players but the entire team, and game changing athletes who never won anything there. No championships is an absolute key factor here, as long as they have both an exciting and unique history to go along with it!

I think the thing is find best about SB productions, the ones Bois has a major hand in especially, is that the *narrative style* has lore. Any person could watch this and enjoy it without ever seeing anything by these guys before, but long time fans have a brand new never before seen in media let alone sports media to consume the the information. I think it all boils down neatly into the decision to show famous/important plays based on GPS coordinates on modern satellite shots of the parking lot that now sits there. I feel like I say this on every third video here lately but this is truly some of the top tier story telling of our age. Consuming it makes me feel the same as when I see a beautiful Vista or listen to a superb symphony.
Y’all’s Mariners Videos got me on y’all tough, and this series is why I keep coming back y’all dope AF. I was born and raised a Mariners Fan and that series really is my go to back round noise video
This has been a great series. Sure it has taken me at least two weeks to watch some of the later ones and then restart it, but as more of a NFL underdog fan, I have long rooted for the Falcons, and graduating in 95, 90 was the year I started collecting football cards and it seemed like the Falcons were on fire as Deon was one of the most sought after cards, despite being a defensive player. That crazy Hammer fad only fueled what was like the Bo Jackson of defense's cultural shift into the 90s carried in the absolute swagger of Mr. Sanders. He was so full of himself within reason, and didn't complain about going to what now I know as a struggling organization, which I had no idea, he literally found it to be the perfect platform to unleash this culture shift and bring where he was picked to the same level of greatness. Just brilliant. I also had no idea that Glanville started the black jersey movement, and as a misfit wearing black myself, it made me respect them even more. Also love those details about how Glanville dialed up defenses, attacking like that, quite revolutionary as many things were paradigm shifting about this team. Though it did seem that the better the personnel were the better the scheme working, but again showing failings of the organization rather than the ideas that were bad. D line and Linebackers looked pretty weak even on the best year. This series shows the struggles, along with the smaller achievements, like that win over the Saints that was essentially their super bowl that year, losing to the eventual super bowl winning Redskins no less. You all tell this story with such passion, I am not sure you can do other teams as well, but sure hope you continue the series, get funding from some teams or something and take these to the next level. Quite a few teams I am sure have huge stories, and glory moments that go untold. Especially the earlier you go. This could expand forever though, heck even on a game by game basis on losing seasons seems fascinating, like heartbreaking losses, etc. schadenfreude It has to be difficult to cut these down to make them palatable as long as they are already, and then timing with original video and illustrations in an interesting way, really well done to the team there. Big W! Thanks! One of my my most earned subs ever!
Before starting the next one, Terrence Mathis was a supremely underrated NFL wide receiver. Was such a beast in 1998 with Chris Chandler. I love these videos, thanks for making them about my lowly Falcons. Dont' think I'll be able to watch the 28-3 episode though, I was there and it's still #TooSoon.

The fact that you guys failed to mention Bill Goldberg's time as an Atlanta Falcon (1992-1994), a guy who would go on to be the single most famous man in the ATL in the late 90's as...well, as Goldberg, is absolutely insulting to the city of Atlanta.
@Fries Bill Goldberg was a defensive tackle from 1992-1994 for the Atlanta Falcons, was released after the 1994 season. He went on to become World Championship Wrestling's most iconic professional wrestler, debuting on WCW's TV program on October 20th, 1997. He was signed by WWE in 2003, and has made sporadic appearances since first leaving the company in late 2004. Another interesting thing of note about Goldberg is his Jewish faith. He is a very religious guy, too. There aren't many Jewish professional athletes, and Goldberg is one of the best.

@@munichhelles ooh the sabres are a great shout. The sharks would also be good but I just don’t think the length of existence is long enough. The blues would also be good. Can you imagine the Saskatoon episode? But honestly history wise: I’d go blackhawks, leafs (if not for Balor alone), and the sabres are a great shout for as close as possible and massive collapses
I'd definitely go Leafs here. This series is usually at its best with teams that almost make it and then let things go. Sharks would be a good one, though - they've been around 30 years now, and they've had a lot of ups and downs along the way. Sabres would be pretty good as well. Blackhawks wouldn't be a good one, though - they've won too much. These long looks should be reserved for teams that didn't win lots of championships.
@@roguishpaladin I feel what you’re saying but the blackhawks only have 6. The leafs have more than double that. 13 Granted the leafs cups are ancient original 6 cups but still. It’s crazy that some of, if not the very best NFL documentaries are right here on RUclips thanks to you guys. You’d think this would be a big budget cable production, yet you guys do it better than any professional sports broadcast ever has. The Falcons traded the first overall pick in 1990 to the Colts that they used to draft Jeff George ironic that they traded later to get him back. The Colts then used the first-round pick they got from the Falcons for Jeff George to draft Marvin Harrison. Falcons fleeced
Also, there was no mention so far of the Falcons wasting the #1 pick in 1988 on Aundray Bruce. Possible recap of the Falcons and top pick mistakes when Michael Vick comes up?
@@samc0815 in 1983, Chris Hinton was drafted 4th overall by Denver. The Broncos traded him to the Colts for number one overall pick John Elway. Hinton to my knowledge is the only player involved in two separate trades involving the number one overall pick in the draft.
My favorite sports fact about Atlanta is that it is the fastest way to get an NHL team in Canada. No, seriously. Since January 1st 1980, three teams started to play in Canada that weren't already there: The Calgary Flames, the Ottawa Senators, and the second version of the Winnipeg Jets. The Senators were an expansion franchise, but the other two moved there from Atlanta, being the Atlanta Flames and Atlanta Thrashers before their moves.
These videos are amazing guys for real. Appreciate the time put into them. Born in Atlanta, moved when I was young but always been a Falcons fan. Thanks for you’ve taught me, and many others I’m sure
Pretty Good Fun Fact: At 21:44, Deion Sanders' antics could have been witnessed by one Lonnie Smith, who was playing what would amount to his last few games for the Braves before leaving the club at season's end.
Never realized how drastically their identity shifted, My Pats, Steelers, Raiders, even at their worst, always felt like themselves, Falcons had 3 identity changes, my fav is the 90s.
You’re kidding right. The Patriots of the 80s and early 90s feel completely different than the Patriots of the 2000s and today. The Steelers I can agree with.
Something non-football-related about Jerry Glanville you understandably left out: He also drove NASCAR and ARCA occasionally from the early '90s up to the early 00's. He raced in the off-seasons during his NFL tenure. (Look his results up on Racing-Reference, not going into that here.) He always ran a black #81. He didn't settle on a single manufacturer, always running hand-me-down vehicles that the big-name teams would sell him. He started out in Buicks, but also ran Fords, and Dodges at different points. He also dabbled in broadcasting races, being part of CBS's NASCAR coverage during their final season in 2000, alongside legends Ken Squier, Mike Joy, Ned Jarrett, Buddy Baker, and, for one Busch Series race, former NASCAR commentator/current Alabama Crimson Tide football commentator Eli Gold. Jerry may not have been all THAT good of a coach, but he sure is a legend, regardless.
so somebody involved in auto racing tried hard to be cool and lets just say "intimidating" with all black in the late 80s. I bet he was heavily influenced by a certain driver.

I'm stunned that Atlanta and New Orleans have only had one playoff match. I'm now sad that we were denied the opportunity of a Brees v Ryan matchup.
@Fries In 2010 it came close to happening as well. The Saints were the 5 seed, and had they won against a Seahawks team that finished that year with a losing record, and the Packers had lost on the road to a talented Eagles squad, New Orleans, the defending champs, would have traveled to Atlanta to face the no. 1 seed Falcons. That would’ve been a matchup for the ages.

By far The weirdest part about any of these videos in the Dorktown cinematic universe is the fact that MC Hammer has a bigger card than Jesus Christ.
Why would his card be big? He went undrafted out of Nazareth and never played a game
Jesus never could get his rap career off the ground. Add to that never playing a second in the NFL, it's a wonder he's in this video at all. I heard he did some motivational speaking later on in life.
But Jesus played for Judaism, Christianity and Islam in different roles. But people only remember him for his wine scam these days...
"... as he high-stepped his way to an *insurmountable* 28-3 lead." Really twisting the knife, Alex. I respect it.
THANK YOU for giving Left Eye the revisiting that she deserved!
Cam Heyward, with the words "Iron Head" as face markings in honor of his late dad, now that is touching!
Tomlin and some Steelers players even nicknamed him “Head” in honour of his dad.
If Jerry had become and endocrinologist instead of a football coach, he could have called his office Jerry's Glandville.
incredible
I liked your statement about Lisa “left eye” Lopez. Really hits home on how revolution is carried out and how that can never be done in football.
While Revis had his island, Deion was a continent. The guy was simply the best ever and was not only gifted physically, his football acumen was off the charts. I don't think we will see his equal in our lifetimes.

It's Dirty Birds time
That's because Jon isn't making fun of the Falcons, and is indeed glorifying their great (if still tragic) history.
@@Soma2710 that wasn't Kofie, that was Joe Ali. I believe Kofie only narrates once, in Episode 5, about "nerfs" in Madden.
The fact that you mentioned Jerry Glanville's Pigskin Footbrawl completely made my day. Thank you.
You guys delve into these stories so much more than anyone else in sports, and everyone loves you for it.❤️
You guys should be put up for an Emmy, I have never seen anything like this and the Mariners video (I’ve watched that 3 times in its entirety).
I was initially going to say when Left Eye came up that I filled out my episode Bingo card. But then Jon Bois went all Jon Bois and brilliantly and beautifully described what made Left Eye so great.
Also, it was appropriately a sort of middle finger to the league and media if how they treated her
That Jerry Glanville Footbrawl game looks like a Genesis port of the arcade coin-op Pigskin 621 AD.
I love how there's very little information out there about the game at all. It's so weird to think a football coach put his name on a port of a game.
It is actually a port of that arcade title although slightly stripped to fit on a Genesis cart and a copy with the box will run you $40 USD today:)
The game itself is amazing. Seeing this clip flooded back childhood memories

You guys are comedic gold

This could expand forever though, heck even on a game by game basis on losing seasons seems fascinating, like heartbreaking losses, etc. schadenfreude
It has to be difficult to cut these down to make them palatable as long as they are already, and then timing with original video and illustrations in an interesting way, really well done to the team there. Big W! Thanks!

Why are you, the biggest pos on RUclips, in the comments so often?

I'd definitely go Leafs here. This series is usually at its best with teams that almost make it and then let things go. Sharks would be a good one, though - they've been around 30 years now, and they've had a lot of ups and downs along the way. Sabres would be pretty good as well. The Falcons traded the first overall pick in 1990 to the Colts that they used to draft Jeff George ironic that they traded later to get him back. The Colts then used the first-round pick they got from the Falcons for Jeff George to draft Marvin Harrison. Falcons fleeced
That was also the deal the Falcons got Andre Rison in. As well as All-Pro offensive tackle Chris Hinton.
I was disappointed Secret Base didn't even try to bring these up, cause that trade is what got the 1991 team rolling!

Woulda loved for him to look into Deion’s exit a bit more but these videos are pure gold. I. Love. Jon. Bois. Anyone new to these videos check out his old videos on his personal channel too, (Jon Bois). Everything this man touches is pure…gold.
