Dogs tend to loves small spaces, which is one reason many do well with crates. It simulates a den they would have in the wild, providing safety and security.
My dog gets so scared by fireworks and thunder. It breaks my heart when she starts shaking, and we have to wrap her in a blanket and hold her tightly, almost lying on top of her, to calm her down. Sometimes she'll try to calm herself by curling up in a tight space...like a closet, under a piece of furniture, or a spot where the furniture creates a small enclosed area in a corner. Unfortunately we live in an apartment and don't have a spot that we can turn into a den for her, because small do feel safe to dogs.

We bought a soft pair of thick children’s ear muffs for our old girl and got her used to wearing them on the run up to “holidays” she was too old for sedation - the earmuffs, TV on and cuddles wrapped in a blanket in our back room definitely helped hardly any shaking and at one point she fell asleep!
@@Diana-007 A few people have suggested earmuffs. Now that the winter clothing is hitting the stores, I'm going to look for something comfortable that will stay on her.
@@Terri_MacKay yes worth a try, we had to look for a couple of weeks to find the right type with a softer band, ended up a toddlers make & size fitted best and and my girls a Basset 😁. Hope you find something that suits.

I had a dog like this. We had to sedate her on the 4th of July. We had no idea of her history, but we knew we were her 4th or 5th adopters. She has to be put to sleep in July 2016. I still weep for that dog. She was my one in a million soul dog 🐕

I had to have my pom put down in Feb. 2016, my husbands life support unplugged in Oct. 2016 and after adopting and elderly pom. in 2017 I was forced to have her put down in Sept. 2023. I am so lonely without my pets I could just scream thru the heartaches. If anyone knows of a small dog needing lots of love that won't cost me an arm and a leg please reach out to me?

I rescued a dog from Slovakia who has bad anxiety and everything scares her. I have a bookshelf in the living room so I took out the bottom shelf and added curtains and a doggy bed in there to make her a doggy den she can go and hide in when life is just a little much. She loves it. She naps in there and runs to it if the trash truck or thunder comes around. Everyone deserves a safe space!
I am in tears. I have suffered with anxiety and panic disorder my entire life. My anxiety is very bad right now and I always watch animal videos to calm myself. I asked God to help me, and immediately saw Myko. I understand his anxiety, I understand how hard times are. He is so blessed to have you both , to love him and get him through those times. Funny enough, my dog is my therapy, my support. I hate seeing Myko struggle, but I LOVE SEEING HIM SO FREE AND HAPPY! Myko made me realize I’m not alone… thank you Myko! Next, I think I need to look into a calming room!!! Myko, you don’t know it but you truly just helped me in this moment. I wish you the best days, health, happiness and peace! You are a special gift! It’s so important to give an anxious dog a place for them to decompress. It makes such as difference as we can see from Myko’s progress. What a lovely family, Myko won the lottery when he was brought home to them.💕🐾🐾

Myko is sooooo loved and cared for that his severe anxiety was completely gone. If more dog parents were patient and explored all their options to do everything it takes to help their fur child, the outcome would be a positive one.

I think I may try to make him his own safe area like Myko’s room. It’s funny that my cat also has a security blanket just like Myko does. I did that for my friend's dog b/c there was a perfect little room under the stairs and now its his "room" and he goes in there when he wants to get away and definitely whenever he hears loud noises.
Try getting him 1 of those Sweater Outfits to Wear, maybe it will make him Feel Cozy, Warm & Safe?
