Building a Pole Barn WORKSHOP in the BUSH (with Barn Doors) | Off Grid Cabin in the Woods!

  • We build a pine sided work shop with double sliding barn doors to store tools for future builds at the off grid cabin in the woods! The roof is supplied by Vicwest (Roof): vicwest.com/
The workshop is made from mostly free or nearly free materials except for the roof supplied by Vic West. The roof is steel and will last a super long time. It's the right material for off grid building because it is durable and requires almost no maintenance.
The work shop is designed so that the barn doors open completely exposing the entire building to the outside. This means we won't need any lights to work during the day. The roof is insulated with re-used materials of garage door to help keep the heat inside. We didn't work on the inside in this episode, but will in the next one.
The siding is from a pine tree taken from the property from a replanted mono-culture forest that needs to be thinned. The siding is cut down to boards with the help of the portable sawmill which keeps costs super low. The posts that hold up the main structure is from cedar trees also found on the property which are also too tightly packed creating a forest fire hazard. The idea is to thin the forest so that new growth can occur and help the forest turn over better and be healthier.
The doors are from reused materials from garage doors, and some boards discarded from another project. The aim with each build is to keep costs down as much as possible!

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

100% agree with thinning. Catch a lot of flak over thinning and burning dead fall. Not enough people understand that’s just nothing more than fuel if left. Good forest management provides for healthier oxygen pooping trees. Solid work.

Brilliant! If everyone was imaginative and creative there would be very little depression and mental problems. When you are in full swing of some creative project you can't wait to get up in the morning and start. You find yourself smiling even though you get dirty, muddy and knackered and very often swear when things go bellyup. To be proud of what you have done, even if it's not the best in the world is what we as people are losing in this modern world of just going out and buying it. Recycling makes you feel good about yourself in this crazy world. Linda from England 😍

Love the work shop!!! Love your non-stop humor!!😁💓 That really is awesome how you reuse materials and keep them out of the landfills. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. Those doors are great 👍

Great idea building a work shed and as usual your multi tool was the star of the video lol
I’m curious to see what you do to keep it warm in the winter
