      Yes I use drainage pots which then fit into a ceramic pot that is taller and has space at the bottom for water. It functions the very same way as the Lechusa with a wick. All you need to do is lift up the leca pot to check if the plant needs watering. It works for me. I only water perhaps once a month. Hope this helps.💐🙋‍♀️

    Thanks for this info. I have a bird of paradise that has scale bugs.. I've followed your instructions and cleaned/treated the plant. I cut off all damaged leaves but the bottom leaves are turning brown and just dying.. could this be a different issue? Or from the pest..

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  2 года назад +2

      Hi Maria,
      This can be a part of pest issue, watering issue as well as the result of treatment. Some younger leaves might get affected by the treatment mixture.
      It is best to switch to Neem Oil amzn.to/3b7SZb1 as soon as the infestation is under control and minimal.
      Spray Lightly leaves, stems and top soil with Neem Oil once every 7-10 days until the issue is solved and there are no new signs of pests are present.
      *** I would also recommend using Neem Oil for all your plants as a preventative measure during Spring-Summer or when you have a sick plant at home.
      Spray lightly once every 2-3 weeks.
      Green Luck! 🌱🌱🌱

    thank so much for troubleshooting there should be more on you tube from plant lovers I had a Maranta it was so healthy when I brought it from the shop, withing 2 months it started to turn yellow, one by one entire plant. THis is the second time and from another Maranta plant that occurred. I only water it small amount until it was moist . IT has light away from the window 2o metres .The roots are healthy with new shoots.
    What happened ?? Thanks for advice .

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  2 года назад +1

      Hi Jenny,
      Maranta can be a bit finicky.
      - They like to be in a tighter pot.
      If a pot is too big, the soil will not dry fast enough.
      -Try using distilled water.
      -You may bottom water these guys.
      Add water to the saucer and wait for the plant to absorb it. Add more water and wait. If the plant stopped absorbing the water, it has enough. Remove excess water from the saucer. Do not let plants sit in water.
      -Allow the soil to dry out a bit more than half way down.
      If using the soil moisture meter mycityplants.com/collections/indoor-plant-tools/products/soil-moisture-meter, water when the meter reading is down to zone 2-3 before watering.
      -They also love humidity (60% or so) and humidifier will help.
      Misting is not recommended.
      -Medium indirect light is best!
      20 meters might be too far from the light source.
      -Temperature should not be below 60-65F.
      Also, make sure not to place your plants too close to AC, keep away from cold drafts.
      -Fertilize during spring/summer.
      For most fertilizers, use half of the recommended dose.
      Hope some of these tips will help to stabilize your plans and get it in a better shape.
      Green Luck! 🌱

    I have recently repotted one of my poinsettia and it turned yellow, the stems got soft and it died. I thought that maybe I was watering it too much. Then I repotted another using the same soil and pot of the dead plant and now my 2nd poinsettia is starting to show the same issues. Is this stress from repotting or maybe pest infected soil? I don't see any of the pest symptoms that you mentioned. Thanks for sharing such great information ❤

    Hi. I have a new Graptoveria Lovely Rose. It was newly planted. Not watered, north facing...until my hubby moved a chair that was protecting it from west facing sun. It has started going yellow, thin and translucent then falling off on the side that was exposed to west sun, but no burning evidence. I took off 5 leaves that were still green and turgid so at least I should get new leaf propogations. All that's left on the stem now are 3 big leaves on the back half of the stem not exposed to direct sun and one nub at the very tip. I examined the roots and stems with 25x magnification and all good so I'm assuming sun was too hot/strong. My Very Long Question is...will the stem likly survive and give babies??? Should I do anything with the stem except water every 10 days or when dry? Soil is 60% pumice 40% coir. Any more organic in UK just stays wet. But definitely not overwatered as not been watered as first week planting it. It was sooooo beautuful and healthy 😭😭😭. I so want to have them in my collection.

    What about plants without soil? I'm not sure what type of plant unfortunately. It was cut off a plant from my grandma's funeral. My mom has the original and it's grown beautifully over 5 years. I recently changed the vase about a month ago to a bigger vase. It's only one leaf that has turned yellow with brown edges. Could it be from getting too much sun?

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  2 года назад +1

      Hi!
      Sun can be damaging.
      Most plants do best in bright indirect light.
      Make sure to change water at least once a week.
      Yellowing can be the result of fungus growing in stagnant water.
      Wash plant roots well before putting it back in fresh water.

      Hi Mira,
      Sorry that your plant is dealing with these unwanted guests.
      Here is the video about how to treat the mealy bugs issue: bit.ly/3z6LYDB
      NOTE:
      - Before treating your plant, try to spray the solution only on a few leaves, as for some, it can be damaging and burn leaves if they are young, sensitive, or already damaged badly by the infestation.
      - Switch to Neem Oil amzn.to/3b7SZb1 as soon as the infestation is under control and minimal.
      Spray Lightly (stems, leaves top and under + top soil) once every 7-10 days until the issue is solved and no new signs of pests are present.
      - It is best to use just Neem Oil as the treatment for sensitive plants.
      Once a week - Wipe off visible bugs with 2-3 drops of dish soap diluted in 20oz water and LIGHTLY spray leaves, stems, and soil with Neem Oil.
      *** I would also recommend using Neem Oil for all your plants as a preventative measure during Spring-Summer or when you have a sick plant at home.
      Spray lightly once every 2-3 weeks.
      Keep consistent with the treatment!
      Wishing you victory! 🤞🌱

    Can a leaf turn yellow if it's getting too much sun?

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  2 года назад

      Hi!
      In cases of heat stress, leaves might turn yellow and burn in spots.
      Some plants love the sun but most plants prefer bright, indirect light, and long sun exposure or exposure to late afternoon sun can burn leaves.
      Learn about your plant type and what kind of light is best for it, to make sure you are providing the right environment for this plant + about care requirements to understand what your plant type needs to figure out why it shows the sign of distress.

      Hi!
      Plants go through some level of shock after repotting. Some yellowing is normal.
      Remove yellow leaves and make sure to allow the soil to dry between waterings.
      Hope your plant will stabilize and grow!

      You may browse through our PEST playlist here:
      *** Before treating your plant, try to spray the recommended in any of the videos solution only on a few leaves, as for some, it can be damaging and burn leaves if they are young, sensitive, or already damaged badly by the infestation.
      Switch to Neem Oil amzn.to/3b7SZb1 as soon as the infestation is under control and minimal. Spray Lightly once every 7-10 days until the issue is solved and no new signs of pests are present.

    Why my dracaena plants turning yellow

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  3 года назад +2

      Hi Perlita,
      There are many reasons why :)
      Watering issue, root rot, not enough or too much light, lack of nutrients or over-fertilizing, lack of drainage, pests...
      - make sure the pot has drainage
      - wait for the soil to dry at least half way through before watering
      - do not allow the plant to stand in water
      - if you have overwatering issue, watch my video about the signs and how to save the plant: ruclips.net/video/W_6f2o30oFk/видео.html
      - do not place the plant near the heat
      - keep it away from cold drafts
      - feed during Spring/Summer
      - rotate frequently
      - check leaves (top and under) for pests
      Here is my playlist about pest issues and how to treat sick plants: ruclips.net/p/PLxxTfYP_hEvCDKRqWFFMx3Qr9MOFV7R1d
      - keep leaves clean, free of dust
      - remove yellow leaves, trim brown yellow tips
      - keep the soil free of any debris

      @Mycityplants  2 года назад

      Hi Charlene,
      You might have a root rotting problem.
      Take your Peace Lily out of the pot and check the roots.
      Cut out any damaged roots, repot the plant in fresh soil.
      Make sure the pot has drainage and be cautious about the watering.
      This plant will "tell" you when it is thirsty - Best to water this plant when it starts to look droopy.

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  19 дней назад

      Hi! Thank you for your comment.
      Yellow leaves can be caused by a number of nutrient deficiencies, including nitrogen, potassium, magnesium, iron, and manganese. To avoid this issue, plants need to be fertilized regularly.
      How frequent and when depends on the type of plants you have - but majority of plants need to be fertilized during Spring-Summer, when they are actively growing.
      Here is our post and video about how and when to feed houseplants: mycityplants.com/fertilizers/how-to-fertilize-plants/

    not enough water.........the more yellow you got that mean the more water deficiency your plant was

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  Год назад

      Hello Alex,
      Not necessarily. Leaves might turn yellow before turning brown when plants are over watered.
      The only way to understand if yellowing is the sign of over or under watering is to analyze your watering routine.
      To establish a proper watering frequency I strongly recommend using the soil moisture meter amzn.to/40wj3UP
