You guys did a great job hosting, I watched the whole stream. Watching them finally unleash server meshing was THE biggest moment in this game since at least 3.0. Maybe ever. I got emotional too. They deserve all the praise for that. The pieces are finally falling into place. Beyond that, even more huge announcements. Amazing citcon, amazing day 1. So hyped for tomorrow.
I know it sounds goofy, but the server meshing thing almost had me in tears, along with the space whales.. but definitely the server mesh. I did not expect it to work anywhere near as smooth. I was expecting at least hundrendths of a millisecond in delays between the mesh reading entity tracking from the replication, but it was nearly instantaneous! It absolutely blew my mind. They have some true wizards working at CIG.
Thank you both, I had a great time. One thing no one has mentioned, is that the meshing model they went with is going to be primarily limited by the network bandwidth of their rack. Once you reach a certain number of handoffs, and considering the interactions with items across servers, the volume spikes that will blow the network cap are going to be very real. They may have to develop a message queuing system with priorities and stuff to go beyond just a handful of servers in one mesh.
My friend was fantasizing about going whaling with a Hull C, using guns and tractor beams to secure the carcass to the spindle... I don't want to kill the Stormwalls, but whaling to sea shanties does sound pretty epic.
MFD at 4:58:41 is not a Gladius... it's actually from a Terrapin. It is one of six that are going into a complete 1:1 stream pit of the Terrapin. The guy showing it is the builder, Dummaloop. He is the Creative Director for Hyndrosa's stream. Eventually Hyndrosa will stream from inside the Terrapin cockpit.
5:33:00 "i just wanted to be open and honest about where we're at with the development" (of the BMM) And he literally never mentioned IF it is in development or NOT.. He just talked around it. Kinda bad to forget to mention the one thing you just said you wanted to be open and honest about. And all of us who spent $400 on this ship never got a single word that it was indeed paused, for months and months, until 1 guy let it slip in ISC. 5:40:20 basically no BMM for the next 2 years.
@@thederpiestturtle Yeah! Haha makes my request look silly now. Teleport them into our ship?.. nahh just drive them in. Moving a light fighter into the bay is small peas compared to the ground vehicles. I'm more than happy with this direction.
2:56:00 also keep in mind, he's viewing the replication layer service on a web browser. Meaning, later on, you see delays, but the entities show up instantly in the game client. So the delay is just the web browser update rate to pull info from the replication layer, AFTER it has already updated the clients and stuff.
Was there for the event and loved ALL of it!! Met some great Star Citizens and also met Chris, Sandi, Jarod, John Crew, Will Hain and...that bearded guy from ships whom I can never think of his name. I also got to chat with Space Tomato and Morphologis. Loved the swag they gave out and nabbed some cool merch after waiting in a very long line. The booths were great, the dragonfly model was cool and the way they decorated for Pyro was cool. Oh, and the Pyro demo was nice. Flew to Monox and did some mining. Can't wait until I can go again.
Not your fault, but the compression on some of the demo scenes is so painful haha. Hoping maybe Star Citizen themselves will release the VOD with a higher bitrate or something. At the very least, I'd like to see that long, Star Engine sizzle reel in its full glory lol. Can't wait for your recap vid!
I went back to the global illumination and I SaltEMike say he couldn't see the difference. What I noticed at 2:18:03 is that the Hardware Ray-Traced GI showed better lighting and detail at the rear of the outside building, behind the ship, but it was much darker inside at the front of the ship. At 2:18:35 the software Gi shows both areas with good lighting and detail.
I'm so glad he said they want to get base graphics performance in place first before implementing frame generation. This is so critical! If you've used Nvidia's Frame Gen, no doubt you noticed the input latency it introduces. I only have a 4070, so maybe it's more pronounced than on the 4080 or 4090, but even when I can pull 60 fps baseline, throwing on Frame Gen and suddenly getting 100 fps... it looks fantastic, but the input lag is terrible. It's so bad I just tune down the graphics and disable Frame Gen to get a snappier input response. The generated frames aren't "real" frames that are a direct response to your input or events in game. It's taking two existing frames and using AI to generate "fake" in-between frames and inserting them. It looks smoother, but it's adding more frames between inputs and actual frames that show what's changed as a result of your input. tl;dr: delaying frame gen is good, potentially less input lag from good implementation
Loved watching this. It would be SUPER helpful if you guys could either mute or drastically lower the volume of the other voices when you guys comment.
Kinda hoping they replace the repair beam with custom animations and some sort of "push buttons in this sequence" mini game or some such. But I'll be happy with repair beams to start.
1:31:15 i legit really really hope CIG will indeed sell this engine, or licence it out (probably with clauses to forbid changes / edits without CIG retaining ownership). Imagine an official Star Wars game like this. Or Star Trek. Or Dune...... If CIG manages to polish the engine enough where it's at least approaching Unreal Engine in terms of "devability", this could be huge NOT just for Star Citizen, but for future sci-fi games in general. Heck, with base building, we could even be looking at a Planetside 3, with base building, full planets, if server meshing works.... So yeah, really hope they will licence it out to other studios, amazing things could happen, just like what happened with Unreal. And remember guys, that doesnt take away anything from Star Citizen, in fact i'd only add to it, due to the secondary revenue source. Could even become their main revenue source, engine licensing is a huge business.
they should make realistic the FORCED option in space and decommped stuff because it then makes ATMO combat even more impactful tbh and i'm sure when you hear a railgun RIP from an idriss in SPACE you'll also scream like a lil girl still ahaha
Man, I remember when Jared was just another dude on the forums. I remember, he used to make somewhat entertaining videos with a weird voice, playing some character I don't remember the name of anymore. Back when the Redeemer was just a fan-made contest concept, I think that was, what... 8 years ago? This game has taken A WHILE. But remember, Red Dead Redemption 2 took 8 years and cost $800m to make. Doesn't make this project sound so crazy anymore, does it? edit: DiscoLando! That was his name. lol
There's a reason we still use dumb munitions in the modern era: they're far cheaper than smart munitions. Also, they pack a bigger punch in a smaller package since there are no electronics. Gravity bombers will always have a place in militaries, IMO.
he did mention 10 ...10 star systems, it gonna come in binary star systems , water worlds , hot gas giants , volcanic hot earths worlds , and black hole
At times i'm turned off by SaltE's negativity as try to be a positive person overall.....however, seeing him dabbing his eyes after the server meshing test really got me. I'll listen to his rants with a new understanding now. Very nice show guys...looking forward to day 2!
So it looks like server meshing just means servers have overlap. Each server is both server of it's area and client of the servers controlling the areas next to it. The server is tracking entities when they're in the other server area as a client, but then has control when the entity moves into it's own area. This means they would need to use many more servers for the same amount of game compared to traditional games, but they can do server meshing.
3:42:15 i mean you avoided to mention the last part, "Followed by our usual wave process". This is no different than Evocati-PTU to PTU. Random backers also dont have Evocati access, or PTU wave 1 access. But we GET access once its more polished. So i really dont see the drama here? EVERYONE will get access eventually, to the Preview channel through the usual waves. Is the drama that you can "buy" access through the digital goodie pack? But you can "buy" PTU access through the subscription. There's zero difference. Only people who are immature and think "i gotta get everything FIRST", would consider this drama. Who cares. I'm not jealous or angry about Evocati in PTU either, why should i be angry at this? It's just the FIRST access, not ONLY access. Please read carefully.
Will be interesting to see what they can do with Star Engine and the verse apart from S42 and SC. I dont think this will be the only games we will see.
Would integrating the map tech ping system to your crew when you mark an item in the manager screen make the gameplay too easy? I feel like that would help with players banding together who can't/don't use mics
will they ever reach a point where the textures won't "teleport" in when you fly down to a planet, its like things pop in and changes fast like a lake or mountains for instance as you get closer. i wonder if they can make that transition at some point so smooth that it won't ruin immersiveness?
Unreal Engine 5 basically solved this problem with meshes with their Nanite technology. Blending between texture transitions in a texture streaming architecture is still a difficult problem I haven't seen done well in any game yet.
i feel like that is the last nail in the coffin that they need to get done to get it really immersive, but its probably as hard as fixing the server mesh as they have now done. @@iminumst7827
Re-watching the ui part and I really hope they can give us a way to make our own ui, Like truly customize it so people can have the 1.0 ui and others can have the 3.21 version. At least I think that would make sense
Make recent visited points of interest of a targets mobiglass salvageable so you can discover trade routes and detours during piracy ops. Would force new routes and workarounds and make information more valuable.
Well done CIG! Mission accomplished! You gave content creators enough to talk for the next 3-4 years to come while you keep selling JPEGs and ships with no gameplay attached.
With the very interesting engineering and mechanical gameplay, I truly hope they allow basic AI to operate a fraction of a ship's tasks. Like, take for example, the Polaris. What roles would people likely want to do on that ship? Piloting, surely. Engineering and mechanical stuff? For sure, it looks really fun to maintain and take care of a beast like the Polaris. Stocking up on spare parts, running around the ship fixing systems during combat stress. When chilling mid space travel, just removing grime and dust off systems, oiling stuff. And people got to operate the torpedo bay for sure, using some sort of reloading system to put in 4 more huge torpedoes after a salvo. Someone surely wants to operate the massive scanning systems on the ship. This already requires a lot of people. This would come to something like 1 pilot, 1 engineer, 1 radar operator, at least 2 mechanics (who could also operate the torpedoes maybe). But who in their right mind would want to use ONE of those tiny turrets? It would be so amazing to have some basic AI capable of firing the turrets based on firing commands given by some officer role. Something like a gunnery officer, capable of remotely shifting through the guns and painting targets for the AI to engage. Obviously this kind of system would not be needed for gunships, where the defining feature of the ship, is those turrets. So you really would want human operators to get the most out of them. Like the Persius, redeemer, Javelin, or the hammerhead. Those ships are all about the guns. Their role is to effectively use those guns to destroy targets. But ships like the Idris, polaris, 890J, reclaimer, or carrack? I think they really need AI assisted turrets, since those guns are only meant to provide some limited cover for the ship. Those ships have more important roles, and their small turrets are really there to harass attackers and fend off really small threats. I don't think people will find it easy to convince 8 players to sit in the unimpressive turrets of such cool ships, like these mentioned. People will want to be fighter pilots and mechanics on the Idris, not sitting in the most mediocre turret known to man.
The engineering gameplay system could also be used for the hacking gameplay. Where a hacking specialized ship could do some gameplay to get limited access to the target ship's engineering commands. So you can lock/unlock doors, open doors, vent a room, disable a system for a while, etc.
You guys did a great job on the stream today. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing, but I definitely wasn't as impressed by the new QT animations as you both were.
@@wetzlarerjungyep, dont understand why they bothered with the ancient FSR/DLSS 2... Its not like they will make it work in the time frame where those old GPUs are still around, everybody i know has atleast a 6800xt or 40xx series GPU...
Gun guy here. The amount of distortion on that reflex sight is awful (ideally you want 0 distortion through the glass) and the parallax effect on all of these is borderline unusable (this is the effect where you shift your eye on a plane parallel to the glass, where you can see through the scope, but the point of aim on the reticle seems to shift as you move around. Ideally you want it to remain on-target. Forgivable on the ranged optics, but nigh-unusable on the reflex/red dot sight.) I'm talking real life, of course. I guess how serviceable these optics are in game depends on how they implement the recoil. But hopefully they make changes to the optics themselves. EDIT: Also the EMP distortion removing your reticle in the optic... Another case of the future completely lacking technology that existed a thousand years ago: etched reticles. This is where the reticle is actually physically etched into the glass so that even if you lose lighting, you can see see a black, unilluminated reticle that you can use to aim, provided lighting conditions allow it. This doesn't apply to red dots or holo sights, though. But those ranged optics should have etched reticles for sure.
So you know next time SaltMike its not DNA around the planet around it . its Binary Code of Data or communication , i think they are using it in game to either make it look cool or use it for the nav tech for the star Map Ai can use it also for simple Communication also in apps . it can also say a name or names of what its reparenting on that planet locations and stuff
Why would the non combat Zeus get more shields, unless certain areas require more shielding due to hazards?? Also, they made and have to manage/update the connie snub docking tech, why don't more RSI or other ships get it?!?!?!
My only large ship is MSR. and I have no plan to buy any other large ship. Then I see people buying 10+k worth of ships and I'm mind blown by the stupidity. They wont enjoy using most of those ships and being a Captin is a lot of responsibility. What goes through people's mind when impulse buying? A dude in my org just got both Zues variants and all I can think of is why, It makes me think they are idiots. If someone would do time stamps that would be awesome .

I most definitely missed some, so let me know what they are and when, if possible, and I'll add 'em in. Also, I did this at 2-3am, so please forgive any stupidity.
There wasn’t a lot of downtime so there’s actually a lot to see
@@FeriteKnight you can add time stamps into the video description easy. I do it on my channel easily
I'll wait until its on the PU and actually works as advertised, been burnt too often by CIG.
Excellent coverage guys. Did a wee bit of channel hoping early on but your coverage was by far the most enjoyable.
I watched all this then watched most of it all again here just to see these guys reactions to some of it lol
5:33:00 "i just wanted to be open and honest about where we're at with the development" (of the BMM)
And he literally never mentioned IF it is in development or NOT..
I wanna see ships spawning with ground vehicles or light fighters in the hangars.
Happy now?
@@thederpiestturtle Yeah! Haha makes my request look silly now. Teleport them into our ship?.. nahh just drive them in. Moving a light fighter into the bay is small peas compared to the ground vehicles. I'm more than happy with this direction.
@@Yokeus 💚🐢
I am so greatful for content creators for streaming this content. It is awesome. Thank you
2:56:00 also keep in mind, he's viewing the replication layer service on a web browser.
Meaning, later on, you see delays, but the entities show up instantly in the game client.
So the delay is just the web browser update rate to pull info from the replication layer, AFTER it has already updated the clients and stuff.
Awesome to watch this together with you guys :)
That was a solid day 1
Not your fault, but the compression on some of the demo scenes is so painful haha.
Hoping maybe Star Citizen themselves will release the VOD with a higher bitrate or something. At the very least, I'd like to see that long, Star Engine sizzle reel in its full glory lol. Can't wait for your recap vid!
they usually do after the show is over.
Lvlcap+mike was a great combo idea, lvlcap was able to fill in the tech with Mike on the history.
Thanks guys for the coverage...you make a great team
that intro remind me the wing commander 'origin FX™' intro 😆
commentary is like the bright and the dark side of the universe and slowly the bright side won over salty :)
"pucks in deep".. appreciate the hockey reference Mike
Came back to watch this during invictus 3.23. Learning so much information about the vision
Not gonna lie: Jared is a pretty good live performer (better than on stream imo).
First Citcon I watched the entire thing. Amazing
Loved watching this. It would be SUPER helpful if you guys could either mute or drastically lower the volume of the other voices when you guys comment.
POLARIS LETS GOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe the realistic sound part is an option you can select.
Kinda hoping they replace the repair beam with custom animations and some sort of "push buttons in this sequence" mini game or some such. But I'll be happy with repair beams to start.
Good show LevelCap, I knew you were going to compare SC´s destruction with Battlefield 😏
If the Idris could hit anything sure😂 kinda lost respect after bullying it around for years with fighters and torpedo bombers.
1:43:37 How about a fucking integrated sprinkler suppression system FSS they even exist today.
That Merchantman dodge was top tier waffling lmfao! 😂
You two are like salt & sweet popcorn. It’s great.
Nice work guys, long day!
Aaaaaaaand that's it. The Star Citizen community is hooked again. CIG about to make another fifty million this year
Sadly yeah, instead of waiting if it really gets into the game they throw money on this bs...
That was his name. lol
Thans for the show
There's a reason we still use dumb munitions in the modern era: they're far cheaper than smart munitions. Also, they pack a bigger punch in a smaller package since there are no electronics. Gravity bombers will always have a place in militaries, IMO.
INCREDIBLE
he did mention 10 ...10 star systems, it gonna come in binary star systems , water worlds , hot gas giants , volcanic hot earths worlds , and black hole
Didnt they have 100 systems as a goal? Wtf are going ships ment for exploration do, scan the same spots that hundreds explored already?
At times i'm turned off by SaltE's negativity as try to be a positive person overall.....however, seeing him dabbing his eyes after the server meshing test really got me. I'll listen to his rants with a new understanding now. Very nice show guys...looking forward to day 2!
Yesterday was insane. I had hope but that is nothing that I had imagine putting in
Chill out, lets see how the 10% that actually makes it into the PU plays.
I dont think this will be the only games we will see.
whoever said "RIP solo players in large ships" in the live chat was absolutely right
THEY ACTUALLY ADDED THE AUDIO FROM HYBRID V AUDIOs EDIT!!! Hallelujah!!!!
So glad I didn't watch this live with you guys 😂 You're gonna end up like Statler and Waldorf 😂😂
"Welcome to our Engine demo!"
"Erm, excuse me, but there is a lot of footage about the engine in the video."
And there I was, fighting the fire not in my ship but the inner workings of my PC. I look to myself and say, least the graphics were awesome!
this was great. Thanks for doing this. saves the normies some time.
Also that map is way easier to use I do not know what bruh was disappointed about.
Only Star Citizen could get deafening applause for showcasing a minimap...
Problem with many of the control rooms 3:16:51 is that they are in the back of the ship near the ramps. Stupidly vulnerable.
6:17:30 (Map stuff) Now we know why the maps are taking so long. Are you gonna go down there and tell that guy he isn't working fast enough!!! LOL
Two days from Citizen Con 2024 and we still don't have the markers on our map.
LevelcapGaming. The man of the video of the $10.000 dollar ship
Re-watching the ui part and I really hope they can give us a way to make our own ui, Like truly customize it so people can have the 1.0 ui and others can have the 3.21 version. At least I think that would make sense
So, what do you do in your spaceship game?
I harvest barnacle-things from the back of sky-whales.
Make recent visited points of interest of a targets mobiglass salvageable so you can discover trade routes and detours during piracy ops. Would force new routes and workarounds and make information more valuable.
Excellent job, guys!!!
Wait i want the Genesis Starliner.... That gameloop is gonna be fun.
Tbh the imperfectness and weird npc stuff in the trailer just gives me hope that this is actual engine footage
You guys did a great job on the stream today. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing, but I definitely wasn't as impressed by the new QT animations as you both were.
2:01:30 DLSS2 Is the upscaling portion DLSS3 is frame generation implementations they are distinct technologies
wrong btw. dlss 3 and also fsr3 are also better upscalers with better denoising etc. the frame generation part is additional to both.
Forgivable on the ranged optics, but nigh-unusable on the reflex/red dot sight.)
I'm talking real life, of course.
I think part of the distortion and paralax is from freecamming from a distance and not pocketing it into your shoulder.
6:44:41 i am more interested in bookmarking locations and search of course.
Could we get some vids of you playing vtol vr. I love that game. Great first day for the con tho
How do I watch this without all the commentary?
Not gonna lie, it's pretty impressive and so my prediction for beta is 2030 guys...
Optimistic😂
Surprised how many people can’t comprehend the tech demo is a “demonstration” and is “in game footage”
It’s NOT pre-rendered
Server meshing was great to see, but I am sure they need to test it at scale, and also where and how it is implemented for the most efficiency.
Salty lake like the salty tears Mike cried 😂 was a good stream you two.
Why would the non combat Zeus get more shields, unless certain areas require more shielding due to hazards??
Also, they made and have to manage/update the connie snub docking tech, why don't more RSI or other ships get it?!?!?!
BONE PLEASE ZOOM OUT😂
2:47:59 listen numnuts he said option, i guess that means it will be an option in the settings. yabber yabber miss the important bits.
The Greatest quote that can come from SaltyMike, "Who cares how?! They did it!"
Did Salty say he had his hand on his knob ??? lol
They're going to have to start hiring actual aerospace engineers to design ships at this point.
Secret unrevealed variant of the Zeus Mk2: 5:13:18
What's the ETA for the cows and whales? Same as the sandworms or are they really coming in the game soon (tm)?
Ya'll need to do more things together
6:50 When is 2 years but all jokes aside, 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2024. They have lots of widgets to make.
It'll be nice to get a perspective on how these spenders think they are going to utilize all these ships.
