Toured all over that area. French Glen, and the back road, almost a trail, to the top of the Steens. The Alvord Desert. Soaked in the Hot Springs down there.
Wonderful varied desert landscape with several unforgettable experiences. I was there often between 2000 & 2007 & still hope to make it in 2025. Residing overseas makes visiting difficult but I am really aiming for next summer. At close to 10,000 feet (the highest point is on the south part of Steens a short walk from the parking area below. Swam once in Wildhorse lake below the summit & the trail down to it has hopefully been fixed a bit. A truly unique Oregon locale & not overrun by tourists the last I checked.
Most parts of the Great Basin are fantastic. This video mooved me to visit the Steens once again! Best regards from a Nevada Desert Rat!
My Dad and his crew built that road in the middle to early 70's. I spent a lot of time in that country. It is a beautiful area for sure.

Excellent video. Great place you chose, now I want to go on a road trip. I live close to the bottom of the Southern Sierras in Cali.
Cali? Columbia?
