Racquet beam looks similar a Diablo 100. I loved that racquet as a junior. I loved the slightly extended 27.25 perfect length in my opinion. If Prince brought back or updated the Hornet or Shark, I would be excited.
This racquet not only has incredible feel and control but I found surprising easy depth and spin from the baseline when hitting the sweet spot. I strung this frame with Prince Vortex at 50 and found it to play incredibly lively with no lack of power, especially on serve. Incredible feel at net with heft behind the ball, high launch angle, felt like I could not miss. could use some more weight in the head
Maneuverability is pretty close, as they both feel rather quick considering the weight. Power is also very close, maybe a bit more pop from the 360+ Prestige MP, but the open pattern of the 97P helps increase the launch angle, and makes it a bit easier to gain depth on groundstrokes. I would say the biggest difference is in spin, and launch angle, which 97P gives is definitely more spin friendly, and yields the higher launch angle. Troy, TW
Yes, but it will be more flexible, and lower powered. I would also consider the Yonex VCORE Pro 97 (330), Prince Textreme Tour 95, and Yonex VCORE 95 with a bit of weight added. Troy, TW
The differences aren't huge -- mainly being the headsize and then just a tad more weight and swingweight in the 97P. Unfortunately, the 97P did not get updated this go around so we no longer have it available but think the 100P is a great option for anyone who had been using the 97 looking for a replacement. Michelle, TW
String this racket with yonex poly tour pro 1,25 in 16 !!!! kilos (about 36-38 pounds) and......enjoy. In 52 pounds you can not have power, spin and pocketing and the racket is muted. Phantom is always string sensitive! Please let me know....
Just switched from my Phantom Pro 100P to this 97P..... oh man.... I love it! proper no frills no bs "technology" racket. I love the box beam... just wish it was like 1 mm thicker for more stability. But otherwise the weight and the swingweight are SPOT ON. no need to customize it.
alright ill give it a shot. thanks. it's narrow enough to fit on the inside of the frame right? cuz that is where I would need to put it on, not under the grommet. @@pdiseris
Plow through is primarily influenced by the swingweight. Stability also has a lot to do with the mass of the racquet as well as the twistweight, which has a lot to do with weight distributed at the sides of the hoop. The higher the stiffness or rigidity of the frame, it can help to increase the stability, but can also be a detriment to comfort. Troy, TW
Although it is heavier, this one feels quite head light and maneuverable. It also has a thinner beam, providing more control, feel, and a bit more precision. The Blade 98 16x19 v7 packs a bit more punch, feels slightly more dampened or muted, and has that lighter static, and a bit closer to even balance feel. Troy, TW
Hey TW Team, I'm currently playing with the phantom pro 100p but as they are unavailable to buy anymore I need to buy something else. I love my current racket, so would this 97p be my best option as a second racket in my bag or would I be best going with the 100p. Alternatively, can you recommend any other racket that plays similar to my pro 100p?
If you want the closest racquet available, then the Phantom 100P will be your best option. If you want something a with a bit more precision, and a bit more of a headlight feel, then the Phantom 97P could be an option. That said, it also depends on whether you want to keep things the same when switching racquets, for example most tournament players, will need a couple or a few racquets that are the same and matched with the specs, so that the feel is consistent when switching during a match or tournament. Troy, TW
had 4 pro 100p's. switched to the 97P... never looked back. 97P is amazing. Im surprised no one is talking about this racket. Next to the likes of PT57A frame. This is a PLAYERS racket.
Similar levels of comfort, and feel, but with some added precision, and it feels a bit more maneuverable based on the balance, and swingweight. Spin potential is pretty close between the two, but the main thing you should notice is the added precision. Troy, TW
Yeah, I guess you could say that. It offers more flex, and feel for the ball compared to the RF97, but is also a little lower in the power. Very spin friendly with its 16x18 pattern. Troy, TW
Control, and feel are great with both. This one is definitely the more spin friendly of the two, and the 97HD has a bit more precision, and slightly lower launch angle. Troy, TW
A lot of the remarks from the playtesters make me think of the review of the first Phantom Pro 100P: nice to hit with, good spin, but small sweet spot and unstable outside of it. I wonder if it is equally under powered on serve. I was looking for a little more forgiving alternative to my 93P 14x18, but this seems to be just a smaller 100P. The Phantom line is just screaming for a 95 sq. in. 16x19 at 320g / 10 pt HL unstrung. I guess I will have to order this from Angell.
I think most of us with the 93P were hoping this would be a slightly larger version of it, but looks like it isn't. Would have helped if the playtesters could have compared this with the 93P or the 100P in term of feel and performance. A few weeks of trawling the TT boards ought to clear that up.
@@harishreddy4034 Mate, it's not like I'm not already spending too much time there... Shame, though, I had the racquet in my hand in my regular tennis store yesterday, and the head size looks just about perfect. Alright guys I need some serious help. I love my microgel radical mp for everything especially ground strokes and volleys. However, when I hit serves my arm starts hurting pretty significantly. I've got really bad tennis elbow I may have to get surgery. I've got a hybrid setup with nxt and some cheap red poly I don't even know the name of it sorry. What racket out there that is similar to the microgel radical or even string would you recommend that is BEST for my elbow? I seriously love my microgel so much but I need something that doesn't hurt my arm on serves. Thanks so much!
They are similar in terms of weight, balance and swingweight; however, the Phantom 97P is more flexible, has a thin box beam and a smaller head size. Because of this, the 97P has a much softer feel and offers less power / more control. Andrew, TW.
Similar type of feel, with lots of flex and comfort, but this one has a bigger sweet-spot. The 93P 14x18 has a bit more precision, and a slightly more stable feel, but not quite as forgiving as the 97P. Troy, TW
This one is softer, more flexible feeling, with a bit more control and feel for the ball. The Response 97 is a bit more stiff or firm, and packs a bit more of a punch. Troy, TW
How is no one talking about how this GODLY at the net, used it tonight and couldn’t miss a volley right from the first stroke.
I barely miss at the net with this stick too - Solinco Tour Bite / Vanquish hybrid is how you string it up. 23/22

Hi TW, just wondering how this compares to the Yonex Vcore 97 Pro HD.
Control, and feel are great with both. This one is definitely the more spin friendly of the two, and the 97HD has a bit more precision, and slightly lower launch angle. Troy, TW
is there any difference from this model and last years?
@John King,
This is a brand new model for the Phantom line.
