    This show does not claim to be a re-enactment of the Bible. Dallas and the other creators encourage fans to read the Bible. This is a TV show and there has to be character development. The Chosen has brought SO many people to Christ who otherwise may have never found Him. He's been made accessible and human and forgiving and loving and patient.
    The "I'm sorry," was his way of connecting with her. To show respect. To speak to her in a way that caught her attention. To make her feel valued.

    The "apology" got her attention. It showed her respect she wasn't expecting. The words showed gentleness. Get your husband also got her attention and set her mind to listen to him and be ready to accept how she had to respond. Hey.... its a movie !!! It still shows how Jesus connected with people without frightening them.

      This ^^, is wasn't an "apology" in that , he was simply showing kindness and politeness AND HUMOR to help disarm her negative attitude. You mention that the Bible implies that there was more to the conversation and were okay with Jesus naming her previous husbands in the scene (not Biblical as in they didn't say exactly all that he said) but are not okay with them adding this seems interesting. Do you think Jesus ever said the equivalent of "pardon me" when he inadvertently ran into someone, say in a crowded market? Is "pardon me" an apology? Technically it is, but it's not really, it's just being polite. I imagine that Jesus was very polite when appropriate.

      It wasn’t an apology. He was just using it as a way to disarm her so he could reach her. She had walls up and he had to break through those walls to get to her heart. He did that by showing her respect that she was not expecting. I think it was very well said.

      One thing all people need to get in their head is that this show is not scripture. It’s a plausible storyline that has scripture in it of the disciples of Christ and Jesus.
      So for Jesus to say, “I’m sorry I should have said please” was to show kindness when someone is offended.
      It doesn’t necessarily mean that Jesus wouldn’t have said it. It means He could have said it, because it is a fruit of the Spirit.
      With this said, I think the correct way to approach this, is to watch the show and if something stands out like this, jump into scripture and clarify.
      But making an opinion to say Jesus wouldn’t make mistakes to have to say He is sorry is not necessary because we all know He is perfect.
      I still appreciate you coverage of this show pastor. Keep covering all the seasons. I enjoy your participation. ❤

    The goal of the show is to express that Jesus is fully human and fully God. Jesus was a perfect human being. But you don't think he had manners or was polite to people? You've never considered his daily interactions with the people around him, have you? Why would he not be kind to people and use manners with people?

    His reaction to Jesus saying please was over the top. If he Jesus wanted to say please it as well within his right.
    He didn’t have to say please, he wanted to say please. Perhaps this preacher needs to be humbled himself, putting a condition on how Jesus should behave.

    Bro you made such a big deal out of the “apology” the point of that scene was to show how he got attention. He didn’t say it cause of a general mistake, he said it because he knew that apologizing to a woman like her would get her attention. Jesus did not make mistakes and even if he did apologize like that it would have been on purpose and for a reason.

    The show clearly states that it has taken some liberties to help develop characters and that not exact scripture is used. You have to give them some creative and artistic freedom. I don’t know my bible word for word but I understand what this show is trying to demonstrate.
    None of us can know exactly what was said as none of us witnessed any of this. We all get it you know your bible, but being critical of a show that has helped and reached millions of people grow in their faith and become a believer in Christ is much more important than being critical of the little artistic adjustments that are made to help tell the stories of Jesus Christ and his disciples. This series has done more to grow Christ’s Church than anything you have done, so please try to be less critical and embrace this series and give it the respect it deserves.

    I'm really pleased that you've changed your mind. I'm sorry for saying such harsh words to you, which resulted from my life.
    It is not an excuse, but rather a rebuke. A thirsty man wants water. She should give that to him, even without saying a request.

  • @maxwilli3718
    @maxwilli3718 Год назад +4

    You completely misunderstood that. He didn't apologize, he even blamed her for it, in the sense that he could have said whether he should even kneel down and say "please please". This is a standard conversational phrase. She understood it that way too.
    2. He also said that she should get her husband. Didn't he know then that she didn't have one? Of course not. That was the introduction to the following words about her. Don't turn every little thing into an untruth or weakness. This is how people treat each other and Jesus is fully human!

    I don’t agree with a lot of your takes on the show so far, but you raise some very good points that I haven’t thought of before or haven’t thought of in the context of this show and they’ve been helpful for me. I love most of this show and I’m very excited for season 4 coming out next month.
    People in your comments are overreacting with their complaints just because you’re criticizing the show in a (mostly) gracious way. I would love to see more of your reactions to this show, especially if you do it episodically like the first one!

    I'd like to see you react to more scenes of the Chosen, it was very enlightening to hear your opinion on it. I enjoy the show very much and understand that not everything is scriptural, especially when they give in depth backgrounds on the apostles and Nicodemus and a lot of other people in the Bible. So I highly recommend that people read the Bible first then watch the show to be able to discern what's been added and what is truth.

    Son, you need to calm down. I've been walking this Earth for 61 years. God works in ways that you would condemn with your narrow inflexible stands. God does not fit in the box that you've made for him. The idea that Jesus never apologized to anyone is ridiculous if you understand Jewish customs. God works in shows like this, as well as shows that have nothing to do with the Bible. God will not be hamstrung by you or anyone else. He is in control in everything. His ways are not your ways. His purpose is hidden most of the time. Trust God to work without your preconceptions. ALL things work to the glory of God. Amen.

    For me the well scene is the best in season 1, maybe even in whole series of seasons. Because it says, that there is no true religion except inner relationship to God in heart. And it says that this is what Christ taught. For me it is the main approval point of christianity even if I am not baptised. You, or I, do not have to be member of church. You only need to obey and recognize God in your (my) heart. That said, in season 1, when Jesus talks with Nicodemus, they open this topic too. Nicodemus says all he knows is he stands on Holy ground after Jesus tells him that Spirit has ways that no rational mind can understand. You (or I) only feel him by intuition and that is what belief means. To witness spirit and follow him (near impossible, sometimes the best thing I can do is only to know about it and it silences me). That talk with Nicodemus is about the same topic and very closely related to theme of worshiping God in man's heart. So.. these two points of the series are very helpful if you (I) do not go to church. They point (the) soul at the end of (life, effort) road to the God and also make christianity valid no matter what is presented as Christianity on television or anywhere else. The scene at well says openly what is it to pray and the scene with Nicodemus (and before that with Moses) says how to see the whole salvation topic.

    Brother, why are you so easily offended?
    This show is not to be taken with offense. Your lord didnt have apologize for anything? Do you hear yourself?
    Are we not to be kind even to our enemies?
    Did jesus come to serve or to be served?
    Oh brother, i have to ask if you truly hear the voice of jesus?
    Did not jesus say to deny yourself and take up your cross daily and follow me?
    Do you not see that this has been done in sight of our father yet he is not offended?
    Proverbs 3;5
    Trust in the lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
    Look at how many people this show as turned to our father and lord and ask yourself if you want to be a part of that or against it.
    Are are we not to be slow to anger, giving no offense and not to be offended? You are a leader of sheep and yet you havent worked on these things brother.
    Seek God and get to know Jesus. For you reap what you sow.
    I love you brother

    He could have said it for the woman's sake, not that He made an error...how do you know? For pete's sake!!! Everyone will always find something "wrong", or "in error", or say it is not the very exact words of the King James Bible. Some will complain about the clothes, or the appearances, and even His backpack. I have yet to hear a "pastor's" opinion/review that they did not find something to complain about.

    I completely understand what he means to say about "apologize"... just be carreful: yes, Jesus of course would be polite, BUT, unfortunately unecesary this word "apologize"... Jesus doesnt need that... the series its here to show how the "ambience" and people, including Jesus, would talk, gesture, etc, on that age... BUT only what is in HolyScriptures is absolute.

    Jesus would have manners. The only thing I will comment. I honestly will not be watching another video of yours, I do not like how you are angry at a TV show that has stated they are not a replacement for scripture. The show has stated that characters are embellished and worked out to fit within a a story that we don’t have every single detail on. The message would not have the reach it does without making the characters relatable. The point of the “I’m sorry” within that line is to show respect and humility.

    C'mon. He knows He didn't do anything wrong. You know He didn't do anything wrong.
    Obviously He never had to apologize for anything.
    It was an "I'm sorry" as a figure of speech. He wasn't admitting a fault. He was engaging her hardness at first. Words have meanings according to contexts.
    If you genuinely think a born again Christian will, because of this scene, believe God can error, or have an undermined view of the perfectness of God.. Than I'm sorry for you and for the Christians you know.
    And if you think a non-believer watching this scene, would go through the same thing, again... I'm sorry for you.

  • @annme7638
    @annme7638 9 месяцев назад

    I have a question. I was wondering if you also have a problem with the language in Genesis 6:6-7? Personally, I don’t take the Genesis verses as some indication that God did something wrong, that He somehow made a mistake, just like I didn’t take the “I’m sorry” line in the Chosen as some indication that they were saying Jesus did something horribly wrong and therefore meant He wasn’t perfect. I would venture to guess that most people took that line as just a polite gesture meant to disarm her, and not as an insult to Jesus’ character.

    • @pastorjohnny
      @pastorjohnny  9 месяцев назад

      Repenting simply means to change one's mind. Repentance can certainly imply wrongdoing, as it does so often in scripture. We know that God has never done wrong, so we don't view the word "repented" in Genesis 6 as God's admission of wrongdoing because of the context of the passage, and the content of God's character. The Chosen went a step further in this scene and portrayed God apologizing. I would argue that while repentance implies wrongdoing, apologizing admits wrongdoing.

    • @annme7638
      @annme7638 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@pastorjohnny I would argue that because we know God can’t and never has done wrong, that just as repented or sorry as used in Genesis 6 doesn’t admit wrongdoing, Jesus’ use of the word sorry in the context of this scene, Him doing what we would consider polite, isn’t an admission of some wrongdoing. It isn’t like it’s a sin to not say “please”. So I guess we will have to just agree to disagree on this point. I do have to say though, that from watching the two videos you did on watching the Chosen and seeing the quick seemingly over the top reactions you had in parts of the videos, it gave the impression that you were watching just looking for something to pouch on. Now that may not have been what you were going for but I’m sorry, it’s just the impression it gave. The Chosen may not be everybody’s cup of tea, if people choose not to watch that’s fine, but they need to be aware that the evidence is clear that God is using this series to draw people to Himself. People are being drawn to read the Bible, seeking to know the Lord more and as a result souls are actually being saved, and that is what truly matters. Coming into that relationship with the Lord is the ultimate goal after all, isn’t it?

    So so disappointed that a pastor would pick such an unimportant things to nitpick at and take the chance of ruining the entire series for people that are searching for God, unsaved people, people that are renewing their relationship with God! The Bible says we will strain at a gnat and swallow a camel and that is precisely what is happening here. Dallas Jenkins and his crew are very open about the fact that there are additions made to the stories, not the Scriptures, but some stories are so small there is no way to make a series out of what is in the Bible concerning those. But the main truths of the Bible, the things that we know for a fact Are brought to life so plainly and so beautifully. All around the world this is being shown and it’s changing peoples lives. Pastor, you should be ashamed that you would be willing to take this away from people that are listening to you and reacting to you based on the things that you have criticized. Jesus Christ was fully God/man, and there is nothing wrong with him, saying please to a woman that he was getting ready to share with the fact that he was the Messiah. 😢

    Ok, I have watched two of your commentaries on The Chosen and am now choosing to not watch any more. Your ridiculous reaction to inconsequential minutiae is ridiculously juvenile and over the top. Jesus had interactions with people his entire life on earth. To say he never apologized because it is not written in scripture is presumptuous on your part. Only a small portion of his life is recorded.
    He was fully human. Do you think he never hungered, was sleepy, had normal bodily functions, etc?
    Did the scripture not say he was "tired and hungry?!?"
    Anyway, God bless you, but I am done listening to you.
