    Hi everyone! Thank you so much for checking out this video. I've been receiving a lot of DMs from insta and although I am so happy to hear that you're all interested in studying abroad, I am not an official study abroad/scholarship advisor. These are based off of my personal experiences and I can't give personalized scholarship advice. I may not respond to scholarships related to your specific interests, as I only went to Japan to study just Japanese. Ganbatte! (Good luck!)
    For scholarships: Please click on 3:10 in the video or feel free to scroll through the comments below. I've provided at least 15-20 scholarships. If you find one that isn't listed below, feel free to comment!

    Clicked on this video to learn stuff about studying abroad, and to my surprise you went to OSU, which is where I most likely will go (due to the fact that I live in Ohio LOL), and I want to major in Japanese there . I graduated as a Junior this year, so I have been using my "senior year" to really figure out what i want to do, and recently I have been learning Japanese on my own, and never realized I could go to college for it, so it was really great motivation for me to actually get enrolled into college, and actually enjoy what I want to major in. Studying abroad is my dream, or even living in Japan for an extended period of time. This video helped a lot, thank you so much!

    • @SakanaHime
      @SakanaHime  2 года назад

      This is a very very delayed response, but reading your comment made my day! The japanese program at OSU has both pros and cons. A pro was I was very comfortable with daily conversations after 1-2 years of taking my major classes. A con is that the classes definitely focused on speaking, rather than reading, so whenever I took a placement test to my study abroad university, I struggled a bit with kanji.
      If you do decide to go to osu, definitely try to study kanji/writing outside of class! Besides that though, it is a fantastic program :)
      Regarding figuring out what you want to do, I always recommend that if you have an interest in japanese, consider minoring in it or double majoring (which is what I did). Speaking multiple Languages definitely looks great for future jobs! Best of luck with everything 🥰

      I mean, if you were stationed in any air or naval bases in Japan, that idea would have been a hell lot easier. There should be a global campus for universities at the education center that offered Japanese courses, but that may vary in location. And if you retired or something, you could have probably worked a contractor while pursuing your study in the language.

      Cream Cosplayes I think the most important thing when it comes to japanese is exposure! I used a site called Animelon.com. I like it because in the subtitles, you can hover over words/grammar points that you aren’t familiar with. Just know that the way anime characters talk isn’t necessarily the way a lot of japanese people speak, so I just use it to learn new words :)

    hey I don't know if you brought this up in the video, maybe I"m deaf but, what year in college did you go to Japan? also how much in advance should I start preparing to study abroad, I really want to my sophomore year of college (I'm an incoming freshman for this fall) so should I start figuring things out freshman year, or is that unnecessary?
    also thanks for the video, such a big help, will be saving this to look at again when I start applying for scholarships and getting into a program :)))))

    • @SakanaHime
      @SakanaHime  3 года назад

      elijah_edits I studied abroad from August 2018-June 2019! So it will really depend on your university. For mine at least, we had to prep a year in advance, which is why they recommend going abroad your junior year, just so you can have that “freshman experience” and get acclimated to your school. There was also a lot of paper work for requesting a visa, which the school took care of for me, but that also required some waiting time.
      If you want to go your sophomore year, go for it!! Just make sure you know what classes you’ll need to take before, during, and after your study abroad program in order to graduate in your desired time frame. 🙂 good luck!!!

      Hi! So I’m really not qualified enough to give advice on this, since I never applied for the MEXT scholarship and my major was the Japanese language.
      It looks like they have a research student scholarship and a Japanese studies scholarship (which includes art).
      As for colleges, I would suggest you really sit down and do your own research as this will depend on where in Japan you want to go, the different sectors of art you can specialize it, etc. Best of luck to you!

    Nope, I'm here because I want to see the video. I tried to study abroad during high school and college since 2007 to 2016. From 2019 and 2020 got rejected from the JET Program after the interview stage. My dreams have been crushed a few times. Now I'm losing my interest in pursing Japan, losing my N3 level Japanese and haven't studied in a few years and my interest in Anime and animation. I was into anime and animation and films since I was little. Went to school for animation and can't get a job in that field. Idk, I'm just here for no reason.

      @SakanaHime  4 года назад +2

      Thanks for watching the video and I'm sorry to hear about your JET results :( A lot of my friends were either rejected or waitlisted from JET, so I wouldn't beat yourself up too much. It's a really competitive process! Also, burn out from studying a language is real and I'm even experiencing it right now. I hope everything does get better for you though!

      @@SakanaHime Thank you so much for your encouragement. I have autism, learning disability and anxiety disorder. With all these conditions, I get discourage pretty easy and its hard to let go of rejections and failures. I decided to join the kendo club in my city today and its free. Its something I always wanted to do since I was 13 years old and now I'm 30....who looks 13 lol. Well, mostly 15 or 16. There were times when I was mistaken as a 12 year old so...yeah and people always ask me where are my parents and get told that I need to be at least 18 years old to work when asking about job positions. Getting off topic. Hopefully doing kendo will keep my mind busy. Getting back to drawing and studying Japanese too. • @SakanaHime
      @SakanaHime  2 года назад

      Hey Willow. I was not an IB student in high school, so I’m not sure if I can answer your question. Unfortunately both Japan/US do not have “free” universities. Because I was on an exchange program, I still had to pay the cost of my home university ($15-20,000 USD). Luckily I had scholarships, so it was technically free for me. I would recommend you Google universities in Japan that accept your IB diploma, and then see if they offer scholarships. Good luck!
