I’m not even sure why I find your videos so interesting since I stated learning Japanese 20 years ago when I was 14 and I’m fully proficient now, but I would like to thank you for sharing all your tips and wisdom so more people get inspired to learn this beautiful language. It is indeed a life-long journey and you might feel like giving up, but every study session ads up and it will be worth at the end! Even if my career has nothing to do with Japanese, studying it has indeed have a big influence on who I am today, so みなさん,諦めるな!初心を忘れずに頑張ってください!
@@madimanzz I'm a little reluctant to answering this question because everyone's journey it's different when it comes to language learning and comparison is indeed the killer of joy. But to give you a timeframe, I started studying at 14 and passed the N1 at 22. I have never lived in Japan and I'm mostly self taught. I would also like to clarify that until this very day I still learn Japanese. It has been years since I opened a grammar book, but I read Japanese novels for pleasure everyday and keep studying kanji. Learning a language never ends, so enjoy the trip!

Been learning Chinese Mandarin in school for about 3 years now and recently started Japanese! Does Japanese Kanji confuse you with Chinese characters? I'm scared if I learn Kanji I'll keep messing up my Chinese
I was learning japanese for the past 6 months but I always felt lazy and didn't listen to lessons 😔 I was stupid. So now I tried to learn hiragana in 3 days, for meeting the teacher. So that kinda helped. Now I'm stuck in ら り る れ ろ... After learning hiragana I will start katakana and kanji. And then start learning words.
I think you should learn hiragana, Katanga then u learn some of vocabulary and grammar. Finally u learn kanji. Kanji is difficult even to native speaker

ですよね…日本人でも漢字が難しいよ…😭 社会に出たら漢字が読めないと大変だから、今は語彙力を上げてます。まだ高校生なのですが、なんとか勉強を頑張ってます。英検もあるし、いろんな資格を取らないと…! 日本語を勉強している方も頑張っててすごいと思います! 私も英語が大好きなので、通訳とか、とにかく世界とか外国に関する仕事をしてみたいと思っています! Let’s do our best. I love English and I love everything about foreign languages. I don’t know why but something about it is really fun for me. I’m still trying to learn English, Japanese and Spanish and it’s really difficult since it affected my vocabulary growing up. Sometimes I would suddenly speak Spanish or English to my Japanese friends on accident. It’s really difficult and sometimes I feel disappointed that I’m not good enough at any of these three languages, but I’m trying so hard. I’m trying my best to become a translator, or any kind of jobs about languages.
I memorized all of the kanas by taking romanized lyrics of 6 of my favorite japanese songs and writing 3 of them back to hiragana, and the other 3 to katana. the third song would always be done without a hiragana/katana chart on the side. It worked pretty well for me. Best part was singing them so I could know if I had messed something up lol
I honestly just want to understand what Japanese songs/shows say without looking at the subtitles and because I find the culture interesting, this gave me some motivation to continue learning

The privilege to be a native English speaker is just insane, the amount of book app and website, that’s incredible !!!!!!!! Sadly when you are not a native English speaker that’s way more hard
These books are easily accessible for B1-B2. You don't need to be anywhere near native level to read those. Besides, you don't want to crutch on English too much. Like a 4-wheeled bike: you do want to take those unnecessary wheels as soon as possible.
Learning your third language using your second language is actually a fantastic way to strengthen your knowledge of that second language, too. So don't worry about it, English will get easier with time!
Thank you so much for this! I’ve been trying to teach myself Japanese for just under a year now, but I’m currently stuck in a weird space where I don’t really know what to study next. But hopefully with these recommendations, my learning will get back on track 😊😊💕
Yep! I keep struggling though lol, I haven’t even been studying even for a week but I have learned a few words already! Not enough for a sentence sadly 😅
I don't know if you will read my comment, but you were such an inspiration for me. I was a little embarrassed at first because I'm over 20, so I thought I was too older to start learning Japanese. However, you encouraged me to take the first step. I've been studying Japanese for 3 months and I feel so proud of how much I've learned, and maybe this doesn't make sense, but every time I feel like I want to quit studying because Japanese is too hard to learn, I search for your videos. Your voice and the friendly way you have to talk to people are so kind and inspiring. Jazmine, thank you sooo much. I hope the best to you. By the way, both of us have the same name. I apologize if my English isn't the best because English is not my native language. Anyways, thank you so much again, dear.
I'm reaching 25 and I just started learning Japanese 6 months ago, so nothing to be embarrassed about 🙌 I think you are brave to say what you feel and accepted the challenge to advance yourself, that's so cool! Keep on going!!!
@@zsualite7984 True, learning vocab is hard, and the key is in repetition. What I often do is watching Japanese anime/movie/show to learn daily used vocab through listening and speaking. Then for most textbook vocab, I learn it by heart and make sentences with it to put new words into a recallable context. I also read short passages/manga/news in Japanese to learn and review new words through reading. Lastly, I revise things I just learnt with Anki app (you can search this app online). Idk if this help but I wrote an article about resources I used to study Japanese here: theancientcarrot.wordpress.com/2021/07/10/how-i-get-from-nnowhere-to-n3-level-in-japanese-proficiency-within-6-months-materials-resources-study-plan/ if you're interested, you can give it a look

いろいろな方法で日本語を勉強していてすごいです!尊敬してます。漢字は日本人でも学校で何年もかけて習うので、少しずつ勉強すると良いと思います💪僕はまだ中学生ですが、英語の勉強がんばります😅 You’re awesome because you’re studying Japanese in a variety of ways! I respect you. Even Japanese spend over 8 years learning Kanji in school education, so I think you don’t have to be in a hurry to learn it. I think learning Kanji gradually (like: read and write 10 Kanji every day) is the best method. I’m a junior high school student yet, but after watching this video, I decided to study English like you! Let’s do our best together. (There may be some mistakes or unfamiliar texts in these sentences… Please forgive me.)
I appreciate the mix of books and apps. I think this should keep learners motivated so they don't get tired of using just one resource. For learning the writing system, it seems like hand writing (or on a tablet) is crucial, so those workbooks for kana and kanji practice would be invaluable so you have good direction instead of just using a blank notebook. Thanks for the tips!

I struggle with homework and forcing myself to study everyday so I'm just making sure I at least watch a video like this on RUclips or watch an anime and actively try to hear words and look up kanji I don't know. Hearing about other people’s journeys is wonderful because it makes me more confident with my own. I started learning Japanese about 100+ days ago but only now have I really tried to push myself to really immerse, use and love the language, it’s people and it’s nation. I’ve just now finished learning the basic Hiragana and Dakuten and Handakuten. I’m trying to master Hiragana and all it has before working on Katakana. ありがとう!

Love all of the great resources you’ve shared! I studied Japanese for two semesters in college for fun and have just jumped back in on a whim. It was interesting to hear you say that a lot of language learners find it hard to express emotion and I totally get that! So hard to not just regurgitate like a robot, especially in the beginning!
I just started learning Japanese about 2 months ago. I am using Duolingo, Tuttles Hiragana and Katakana practice books, A kanji a day calendar, RUclips videos, and Anime. I also printed out the graph paper from both Pinterest and the Tuttle website. I started casually learning Japanese years ago, one of my friends was studying Japanese and she introduced me to Anime and Manga. Its only as I have gotten older that I have made long term goals for myself, going to Japan is that goal and I dont want to look or sound like an idiot while I am there. Most recently I ordered a text book about Japanese history and culture. I am looking forward to using some of the apps and books you recommended. Thank you for the video.

I've been studying Japanese for 2 years (I was 12 when I started) then put it off for a couple of months. I don't know why but I'm naturally drawn to the language, compared to others. This inspired me to start studying again, thank you!!
I started Japanese back in January (2021) at the time I didn’t know how hard learning languages where. I said, “I’ll learn Japanese this month next month spanish next mothing this that ect.” I didn’t know it could take me a lifetime to learn it. I’m glad I chose to continue learning Japanese cause its been 10 months now, I know Hirigana, Katakana, and now I am practicing Kana vocabs. Sadly I can’t yet get those text books, but I have regular note books. Using a note book and my phone. I’m on a budget yes. But I can watch anime, get free apps, and use my note book for help. If anybody thinks they cant learn Japanese considering its best to use a mentor/teacher and text books, I managed to teach myself Japanese from a note book and my phone. I’m not fluent, but I have a good idea on speaking it. I can read Kana, and I know how to introduce myself. One day I also dream of going to Japan. But this video really did help me. Thank you very much, you just gained a new subscriber.

Wow I love you dedication
may i ask how long it took you to master the language?
@@madimanzz I'm a little reluctant to answering this question because everyone's journey it's different when it comes to language learning and comparison is indeed the killer of joy. But to give you a timeframe, I started studying at 14 and passed the N1 at 22. I have never lived in Japan and I'm mostly self taught. I would also like to clarify that until this very day I still learn Japanese. It has been years since I opened a grammar book, but I read Japanese novels for pleasure everyday and keep studying kanji. Learning a language never ends, so enjoy the trip!

Hey same here! I've been learning Japanese for about 7 months and I'm going to study Chinese next month! Btw I'm native in Vietnamese :D Cố lên nhé!!
You must be very tired every day haha
Been learning Chinese Mandarin in school for about 3 years now and recently started Japanese! Does Japanese Kanji confuse you with Chinese characters? I'm scared if I learn Kanji I'll keep messing up my Chinese
“それができますよ“ is usually referred to/translated to “you are allowed to do that”, or “You can do that”
I was learning japanese for the past 6 months but I always felt lazy and didn't listen to lessons 😔 I was stupid. So now I tried to learn hiragana in 3 days, for meeting the teacher. So that kinda helped.
Now I'm stuck in ら り る れ ろ...
After learning hiragana I will start katakana and kanji.
And then start learning words.
Perfect plan! You can do it!!! 🥺
I think you should learn hiragana, Katanga then u learn some of vocabulary and grammar. Finally u learn kanji. Kanji is difficult even to native speaker
I use Hiragana sensei and memory hint. Those are my favorite apps

I know all my katakana and hiragana now so I’m going to start a textbook :)) you really inspire me so tysm for these videos !

あ?ロシアです。
I memorized all of the kanas by taking romanized lyrics of 6 of my favorite japanese songs and writing 3 of them back to hiragana, and the other 3 to katana. the third song would always be done without a hiragana/katana chart on the side.
It worked pretty well for me.
Best part was singing them so I could know if I had messed something up lol
Hi. May I know what songs are those. Can I find it in you tube?

As I’m Japanese, I just wanna tell you that I’m always happy to see people who are trying to learn our language. ❤You can do it. ☺️
The privilege to be a native English speaker is just insane, the amount of book app and website, that’s incredible !!!!!!!! Sadly when you are not a native English speaker that’s way more hard
True though
Become fluent then
These books are easily accessible for B1-B2.

@@manhmanh999 How did you learn sentences? I finished learning Kana but memorizing vocab seems hard

You’re awesome because you’re studying Japanese in a variety of ways!
(There may be some mistakes or unfamiliar texts in these sentences… Please forgive me.)
your sentences in english are all well-constructed and not awkward at all! you’re doing amazing ❤

I just started learning Japanese about 2 months ago. I am using Duolingo, Tuttles Hiragana and Katakana practice books, A kanji a day calendar, RUclips videos, and Anime.
Great video, thank you so much for showcasing so many great resources!
