Always down for a good standalone! It’s always great to not have to read multiple books to see them more & see the cliffhangers. You an just devour it and move on
@@tilli_ it is appropriate for a 13 year old as I am currently 14 there's nothing bad in it besides a few curses here and there. But other than that it's perfectly fine😊
I used to prefer series over stand alone books when I was a teen. However, now that I go to University and have more responsibilities,I cannot read as much and I feel like series are a big commitment. So I now prefer to read stand alone books, because I can read like 10 books and discover 10 different stories. With series, if I read 10 books, I might've just discovered like 3 stories and will have to wait a year or even more to find out what will happen next.
I just can't get over how stunning you are in this video. Your makeup is the definition of perfection. So many great books on this list! I cannot express how much I wish I had Radio Silence when I was in high school, that book resonated with me more than almost any other.
Sadie is an amazing book! I was a bit hesitant to get into it because of the hype but I really liked. I listened to the audiobook and it's definitely one of the best audiobooks I've heard.
You’ve certainly grown my (never ending) TBR!! I’ve read Turtles All The Way Down and loved it, although probably not one of my favourites. I’m very interested in The Astonishing Colour of After because I know from experience it can be difficult to know how to deal with other people’s mental illness and what you can do that will actually help support them. Thank you for this list
Turtles All The Way Down is so accurate because John Green has OCD and he said it was the hardest book to publish because it was so personal to him. I’m proud of him for being able to publish it and help so many with such a beautiful book. Edit: He’s been talking about it being made into a movie. Pretty sure that’s in the works.
Omg I love the Astonishing Color of After and I'm really surprised (actually, not that much because you've read seriously everything) that you love it. It's soo underrated!
I remember Ava Lavender from your bookstore vlog. 😊 Radio Silence is also becoming popular in BookTube. Saw it in TJ Reads the Stars. 🌟 The ending of Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon, amazed me.
I love every time you mention The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender because it is my favorite book of all time! It was my intro to magical realism and it has totally taken over my life! It quickly became one of my favorite genres ever and is now the genre I choose to write my fiction in. As cheesy as it sounds, reading this book was such a epic experience because I had always struggled with wanting fantastical elements without having to become Tolkien, ya know? This book taught me that I could whip up a simple plot (or really no plot at all) and fill the space with eccentric characters and the lives they live. Everything just clicked into place for me. Also, if you haven't read anything by Alice Hoffman before, her books are a great addition to the genre. She's basically the queen of it haha! Love your videos!!!
Hello ! I'm a french booktuber and I just discovered your channel, and I love it so much ! Sadie is out TOMORROW in France, and I already received it, and I'm so excited to read it ♥
When you were talking about Turtles all the way down you said that you didn't know a lot of books about OCD, so I recommend to you Every Last Word. I read it recently and I loved it
I absolutely loved Sadie, I’ve read a few of Courtney’s books now and they never disappoint!! I didn’t connect that well with TATWD but I did read it during a slump so maybe I need to give it another go 👀
I have been finding more and more standalones that I love recently. I loved Call it What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer. It comes out in June, the 29th maybe, and I highly recommend it! It's such a raw and powerful book. I also loved The Astonishing Color of After, which was recommended by you, Hailey. So thanks so much ❤️ Added more books to my tbr. Just what my wallet needed 😂
My favorite stand alone book is one of my all time favourites and that's Book Of Lies by Teri Terry. It's sort of fantasy, mystery.. ish... with a family curse and 2 twins who had never met until a tragic event brings them together to discover the truth of the family curse. That's as close as I can get to describing it. It's such a good book!! I love all of Teri Terry's books and she just released a prequel to the Slated trilogy (new book Fated) she wrote. I just finished it and it was so good!! Almost as good as Book Of Lies
You just got a new suscriber thanks to this video. I love stand alones and actually I have 3 of these books in my TBR. I definitely have to read them ASAP.
I'm so impressed with you posting so many videos while still having a job and and a lot for you are amazing I really admire hard work!!! You inspire me a lot ((:
Radio Silence does not revolve around romance! There is a romantic subplot, but it is really not a huge part of the plot. I'm currently reading Sadie, which also does not revolve around romance.
I really recommend all the bright places. It's about violet and finch. Violet is dealing with the death of her sister and survivors guilt. Finch is dealing with his dad leaving and having new family and his thoughts of death and suicide
Ava Lavender though!!!! 😍😍 Turtles was quite amazing rep wise. I related to Aza so much (not to the extent that she has OCD/anxiety) but like mine has been getting a little bit worse lately and I'm trying my best to deal with it and do things to distract myself from the spiraling thoughts.
i came to the realization that standalones are my favorite kind of books. the only not stand alones that falls into my category of favorites are the those of the "game of thrones series". so here i am, looking for more future favorites 😁
You always talk about magic realism and I'm curious if you have ever read books written by Gabriel García Marquez, Isabel Allende and other Latin American authors
@@rahuljain2862 I had to read it for school (because I'm Chilean so read at least one of her books during those years is a must) and I really liked. It's very long and it takes a little bit of time to get the hang of it but after that I found it very enjoyable. Also it's historically accurate so you kinda have a free history lesson
One of my favourite stand alone novels (and also one that has a side character dealing with mental illness rather than the main character) is beautiful broken things by Sara Barnard. I found it really quite heartbreaking, and I liked the focus on friendship rather than romance
Great recommendations! Also, I'm curious what's wrong with music in the background of videos? I enjoy that. I think it gives a cozy feel to have quiet music in the background of some videos. Just curious. Love your channel! 💗📚📖
Sadie and Radio Silence will be some of my favorites this year, Sadie’s audiobook is really good but I didn’t like the full cast, there was no emotion projected in the characters however Sadie’s voice was amazing I would listen to anything she reads lol... Radio Silence is an awesome read for adults too, as a parent I found it really helpful.
Personally I read tons more stand-alones than series (Like as far as they go I've only read Harry Potter and then some things from elementary school), and I remember being shocked that the average reader mainly reads series when I first started watching book tubers. This year though, I'm gonna push myself to become invested in more (series)!
I love standalones. But I try to not read about mental illness or illness at all, because I feel, I’m not strong enough to deal with this kind of issues. But - and I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not- I’m gonna try “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green. It will be my next read, right after I finish Nicola Yoon’s “Everything Everything” tonight (I hope I will😅)
If you’re looking for another Courtney Summers book to read I recommend my favourite; This Is Not A Test. It’s basically The Breakfast Club meets The Walking Dead :)
This is completely off topic but your eyes are beautiful. Also, I'm totally gonna check out Radio Silence. I'm a high school freshman which has been rough.
I loved The Sun Is Also A Star!! I'm so excited for the movie! I just hope the movie version is better than the movie version of Everything Everything. What are some of your favorite audio books? That would be an awesome idea for a video as I'm always looking for an audio book to listen to!
I would agree with your thoughts on turtles all the way down but my rating wasn't 5/5 stars because I got confused on why she was after Russell Pickett but is was a 4.75/5 stars for me but I see what you mean.

Cassidy Ongansie would the sun is also a star be appropriate for a 13 year old girl? (Mostly just the reason level, not so much curse words ect.)

Yes! Series are amazing but sometimes standalones are exactly what you need. Loved this video, Hailey!
