  • St John the Divine Midnight Mass 2017 - Offertory procession. DJB Improv. followed by the last verse of 'Hark the Herald', with the Sir David Willcocks descant. Quite the sight and quite the sound with 3000 singing, SJD organ and brass!!

Quite amusing to watch the string players continue to play along with the full tutti of organ, brass, and choir... as if they will be heard

That was magnificent. May the voice of praise always be heard from America in these increasingly dark days

They need to post more hymns with fantastic descants like this and change the descants every year as King's College Choir did under Mr. Cleobury RIP.And continue to post such glorious music .

In my mind without question, the most superb interlude ever, and in the 50+ years of playing and listening to the organ, I've heard some of the best in the golden era of church music growing up in NYC and nothing comes close or within 100 miles of THIS. It actually brings tears to the eyes. WOW!!!!

There is NO sound like the beauty and grace of the organs at St John the Divine!

Two years on from my last comment. Still get chills. Utterly spectacular and outstanding from David Briggs. Just wish there was a recording of some more of this service. Brilliant.

We should all thank Bryan Zaros for capturing this amazing and thrilling 'tour de force' by David on this superb organ in St John's cathedral. He uses the voices of the organ to the fullest effect and with the choir, brass and huge congregation, brings glory to the new born King!

Listening to this again..love the theatricality of this...power and energy...Americans are good at this... need more of this at Westminster Abbey etc as in the days of Simon Preston. Cathedral playing in the UK these days is so terribly inhibited. Gloucester Cathedral is usually pretty good with Jonathan Hope.

Got chills listening to this. Amazing work by Mr Briggs. Presumably Mr Tritle on the baton, clearly joyous on that last verse. Outstanding.

The build up to and then the thundering power of low C at 6:26 is just awesome.

St. John the Divine has some truly magnificent liturgies. I can honestly say that when the processional cross passes you there, you feel like it is the procession of a king. Because it is!

Really?? I'll look that up, but how tall is the statue of liberty? I've never ever heard that and I've hung around SJD since 1971, so that's an interesting thing to say.
