One of my friends dads showed this to me. I wake up,I go to work for 5 days, drink a 6 pack or a fifth other every Friday, stay home or go fishing on the weekends. I have friends and family but no one ever really bothers to check on me or make plans aside from maybe 2-3 people
It’s a peaceful life, but at what cost? Hearing the line “I don’t know what to do with all this freedom” hurts more than anything. I like my peace and isolation, but lately, it’s really starting to sting

Find your stride, man. Sounds like you already have a lot of it figured out in a good, and very special way. Maybe push yourself outside your comfort zone a touch, even just once a week do something different. Go somewhere different. Walk somewhere different. You never know what will come of it or who you'll interact with. And even if people don't check on you, just always remember that you are more important to this world than we'll ever comprehend.

6 years of marriage, 5.5 years post-divorce. Damn, this hits home. It's the kind of pain from an old wound that makes you cathartic, and you don't mind the pain at all. It becomes part of life, and you almost never want it to fade completely.
Keep on writing the stuff that hits deep. We've all been cut deep at some point, and your words just find that spot.

I play in bars ,restaurants and parties and I have learned some of Travis’s songs like this one, and I play all of them every time I play..I have to bring two guitars so I have one in open G tuning , but it’s well worth it. A lot of people ask me who does the songs he does when l play them. Once they check him out, they are hooked. Get a lot of requests for Travis Meadows songs! I’m not really surprised. He the best singer/ songwriter there is, bar none. Every song is pure gold. I don’t do them justice, but once they know him they even want to hear my mediocre versions. I love you Travis !

@@Travismeadowsmusic Hey Travis. You have no idea how much it means to me for you to respond to me. The trouble is, you are all I listen to. I play a lot of your songs and l’ve had so many people ask me who recorded your songs. I tell them, only the best songwriter in the world today who also happens to be one of the best singers out there. I’ve turned so many people on to you. I play Learnin how to live alone, Old Ghosts, What We Ain’t Got, Better Boat, Sideways, Pontiac ( this week’s favorite!) and others. You write and sing with such honesty and you are tremendous technology, it blows my mind. I know you are an avid rewriter. Your sad songs always have that piece of hope and strength that made them even more relatable, sadder and hopeful. You are a gift in a sea of mostly mediocrity in my opinion. Bless you Travis. I love you and I root for you professionally and personally with all my heart. Hope you are doing well. I need you. Richard

Having come upon Travis' songs quite by accident, i can't imagine a day without listening to "Sideways" or "Old Ghosts". He reminds me a little bit of Chris Stapleton, but with an age and wisdom in his voice unlike anyone else. It's a voice that touches your soul, caresses you gently without a care, and lays you down to cry your tears alone. I feel these songs like they were written about my life. They're tender, heartbreaking, touching, just stop killing me already. 😊

I've been divorced and alone totally for 18 years and this song is very painful to me. I absolutely believe that this is what's meant in the songwriting business about three chords and the truth. I love all your songs but this one really smacks at my heart. Thank you

I agree. I didn’t know people were ever gonna hear this song. Or any on the killin Uncle Buzzy record. I was just working through some stuff. The only way I know how. I think great songs happen. The minute we try to write a hit. Or wrote something that sounds popular we are already doomed. Just live your life and write about it. Let the songs happen. Give them room to be. And they will.

@@Travismeadowsmusic yes I like the way you say let it happen and I can listen to just about any song and usually only takes a moment and I know if the writer's boss paid him to write it or was it his heart that made him write it. I believe one can only be a true artist and writer when his heart is involved. These so called writers that sit in an apartment all day long writing crappy songs hoping they get a hit have really damaged the art of songwriting and shouldn't even be compared to the real writers like yourself, Kristofferson, Willie, and Dylan to name a few. My dream in life is to have at least one of my songs published and recorded but I'm running out of time. I'm 61 yrs old playing since I was ten and had bypass surgery and other things I've been dealing with and I have not a clue on how to pitch a song. The thumbnail will take you to one of my videos and it's me playing and singing even though I'm not actually in the video. I would love your opinion on it but it's cool if you don't have the time to. Like you I've been thru hell and we have to get it out by writing a song about it. You are such an inspiration to me and I just wanna thank you. You and yours are in my prayers. God Bless You. My name is Tony
