First of all Michael, I found your youtube channel one day as I am a guitarist and your channel is great. Thank you for doing what you do. Let me tell you when I heard this song it just brought me to tears as I am not great at expressing myself in words which is probably why I play guitar but this song really spoke to me. I just wanted to thank you both for your videos and the song and thank you for the explanation Travis.

I am a single father of an 11-year old boy and I have struggled with alcoholism and addiction pretty much all my adult life. I am a self-employed, one-man acoustic show. In the last 4 years, I have lost a daughter-in-law to addiction (at 22 years old), caught my wife in bed with another man so I packed up myself and our son and moved to another town, and then last October I lost my mother to Covid. It's been rough. I spend many nights in my recliner falling asleep to RUclips. One time I woke up to the Michael Palmisano video of him reviewing "Sideways". I cried like a baby. You sir are an AMAZING songwriter and now I try to catch all the Travis Meadows media I can. I perform "Sideways" regularly now. It's just the kind of therapy I needed. Thank you, sir! Please come to Iowa and put on a show! Johnny Whicker, Oskaloosa, IA.

Been in music for over 25yrs and I don't ever recall a song move me the way Sideways does. It's a lyrical masterpiece. So many lines that make you pause the music and contemplate what you as the song writer are expressing to us. It's incredible man. It really is.
Like many, I found you through Palmisano's channel and I'm so glad I did. Looking forward to going through your music and enjoying. God bless you on your recovery Travis. Now I'm going watch your hour-long interview with Michael...lol.

I sent the song to my dad and said I think you should listen to this. Every lyric in that song hit him hard. He's in his 60s now and has had... a life, Of trouble and hardship. And his reply broke my heart. He said. "I need you to play that at my funeral, Because it says sorry to everyone better than I could" So thank you Travis, From us both.

Travis, I am a Songwriter from Texas and a Baptist preacher for 28 years. I love Sideways. I come from a Honky Tonk Daddy and a Church goin Mama.
I got saved at 7, went through childhood trauma x 10 and came out the other side playing rock and country, taking psychedelics and partying until Jesus gave me an ultimatum. I surrendered and have preached the gospel for 28 years, but I’m writing songs and playing again and it’s good. I’m praying for you to get back to feeling and sounding like you. Your songs hit me where Guy’s do. Keep up the amazing work, brother.

Sideways is just about the most genuine musical take I've heard concerning the pains of repressed and suppressed emotions. Everyone can relate to the subject but it is distinctly significant for individuals recovering from trauma and/or substance abuse. Your will to self-disclose sharpens the sincerity and intensity. It's masterful songwriting and self-reflection. I hope music is harboring you during these current obstacles. Old Ghosts is another poignant song. I'd love to learn the backdrop for that one. Be well, Travis!

Sir, 3 days ago I had never heard of Michael Palmisano, one hour ago I had never heard of you, Michael reviewed a song from my favourite band, since then I have started watching his reviews. I saw his headline stating 'one of the best songs I have ever heard' and I had to listen, he's not wrong, your song is one of the best songs I've ever heard too. My father left us when I was 14, my mother struggled to raise myself and my 3 younger sisters. I had to leave school at 15 to bring a wage in to help my struggling family, social services wanted to put me and my sisters into care, but we got through it. The hardest part was my father just disappeared, he left us in 1972, he died in 2014, in the 42 years between him leaving and dying, I saw him twice for a couple of minutes, once at my grandmothers funeral, and once at my uncle's funeral. I've carried the feeling of not being wanted all my life. Your song really cut deep, and spoke to me in a way not many songs do. I try to put the past back where it belongs, in the past, but there will always be a part of me that misses my dad, not the dad that left me, the dad I had before 1972. My father gave me 3 things, heart disease (I've had 2 heart attacks) a deep distrust in people, and the love for a shit football team. I'm 66 and married with 2 kids of my own now, but it took the longest time, I was 29 years old when I finally let a woman in. I love your song, it will stay in my heart forever. Bless you sir, love from Doncaster, England.

Great story, Travis. Always been impressed and envious at your ability to look objectively inside yourself and describe what you see. It takes a lot of denial to finally meet the truth, doesn't it? Keep digging and if you're up for sharing, we'll always be here to listen.

If there were two words that meant more than "thank you", Id use them right now. But since I can't seem to find any I'll simply say, thank you! Up until a few days ago I had never had the pleasure of hearing your songs. Like others here Michael P. turned me onto your music. You moved me Travis. You reached through my computer screen, grabbed my by the lapel and bent my emotions into a pretzel...and I loved it! Every song on First Cigarette is better than the one before it. "Guy Like Me" is my theme song! In my journey to learn more about you I was devastated to hear about your health struggles. God speed on your recovery. I can't wait for you to get on stage again. When it happens, I don't care how far I have to drive, I'll be there! God Bless my friend!

I discovered Sideways, like many have said, through Michael’s channel and subsequently listened to the First Cigarette album. I was born and raised about 30 minutes from Opelousas, so I wanted to say thank you for working the youth in that community. All the best to you sir.

I found your music via that video. I had never heard of him or you before that day. I immediately ordered that album and Sideways has been on loop in my head since. I cried the first time I heard it. I am like how the heck did this guy write a sing about my life. Litterly the first line to the last. There's so much deep subject matter in that song. From the buying a new conscious, to locking doors you wished you didn't open, to unlearning the things you wish you never knew, to the father line, the roads turning into highways! WOW! ALL OF IT! It's my all time favorite song! Even the chorus. Push it down it comes out sideways. How many times have my arms grabbed for drugs and alcohol to knumb the pain that I push down and refuse to realese. How many times do I reach out sideways for money and things to try to fill this God sized hole in my soul that only filled by Him. It's releasing this unforgivness, guilt, pain, shame... The song has Biblical truth. Pushing down these things inside of us instead of giving it up to God and letting Him handle wrongs that have happened to you. And remembering all the times you wronged someone else. Even me being worse of a Father than my own in certain arenas. I was alienated from my first two kids and have no relationship still to this day but I want one. And I also suffered from addictions although different ones than my father. We all hold our parents up on a pedalstool and then we screw up just as bad. I can't believe you aren't bigger than you are. To me you are almost as good of a singer as Chris Stapletion (it's hard to beat his voice) BUT the lyrics are better. I don't wanna hear songs about whiskey anymore, I want to stay sober. Yours and his are the only albumns I have bought since the 90's. Great work! I hope you get better soon! You gained a fan!

You guys both are favorites of mine. My Father passed away during the pandemic lock down. I am currently putting in the work to heal from our toxic relationship. Your song and Michael’s channel are the latest help I stumbled on. Thank you. Beautiful work!
