Travis Meadows is an EPIC songwriter! I'm sure you have researched a little bit by now to know the several songs he has written that are popular. He is 100% country!
Travis is a long time alcoholic and drug addict in recovery. He’s also a counselor to others in recovery down in Mississippi. “It came through the bottle” is a reference to his past. Many addicts have difficulty identifying their own emotions much less expressing themselves verbally. Many times these repressed emotions are blurted out in anger which is really fear. Often times when words do come out they are “sideways,” and not direct and clear about one’s feelings. Alcoholics often isolate themselves and are stuck in a life that’s “sideways.” There’s a video of his about what the song means to him. Look for it for a deeper explanation of the song.
Imagine a sponge soaking up too much bad water if you push the sponge down the water will pour out the sides of the sponge. Now imagine trying to push down the bad in your life instead of dealing with it. It will come out in unexpected and worse unwanted ways... sideways.
He said he’d lived life and done everything by 35! Moved to Nashville to try to make it. Watch a RUclips interview on him. Amazing songwriter, his voice is filled with a lifetime of pain. Love him and a great reaction.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO MORE OF HIS MUSIC!!! He is an absolutely beautiful songwriter with beautiful honesty. Try First Cigarette, or Pontiac. Those are two of my top songs of his. But he doesn’t have a bad song in his catalog to choose from but definitely check him out more!
Being somewhat of a songwriter myself. I was super imressed...its all about the lyrics and that soulful way he delivers them...just great songwriting..your suppressed emotions are gonna find a way to come out many time in the wrong way...songwriting is probably the most productive for people like me...
Travis is a song writer. He has had a lot of issues with alcoholism and has lost one of his legs to cancer. He recently had a stroke that’s left him trying to come back again. He wrote the song of the year “Riser” for Dierks Bentley and the idea from “Sideways” came from a young lady he met at an alcohol-drug rehabilitation center he spoke at. He asked the young lady how she was doing? She replied I’m doing the best I can I push those evils down when they arise but they seem to try and reappear sideways. Hope that gives you some insight. He’s a really nice dude and has wrote a lot of chart topping songs for the big names. Check out his live version of Riser.
The Philadelphia Eagles used his song Underdogs in an ad. He's an amazing songwriter that's written for Eric Church, Dierks Bentley and many more. He's a recovered alcoholic and has now lost his singing voice due to a botched surgery on his neck but he still writes. Just an amazing, relatable song writer.
I was recently introduced to Travis and I am loving his writing and the stories he tells. I thought this song wrecked me, then I heard Learning How to Live Alone. He has a lot to say, I wish more people knew his music.
"Better Boat", "First Cigarette". Dudes music is depressing as hell, it's brutally honest and open, and relatable. An amazing, sorely underrated musician
He has a video explaining the origins of the song. If I recall right it's not about himself - it was inspired by an experience he had visiting a substance abuse program for youths.
This guy's music is depressing as hell, but amazing. I love him. Better Boat, First Cigarette, It Gets Better...this guy has lead a troubled, rough life and communicates it beautifully
My friend, this guy ran off some people very important in his by self medicating with alcohol, which he likely experienced his pops do..... he now finds himself, missing a son that he's now estranged from because he has fallen to a cycle that unfortunately seems to repeat despite determination to escape and break. But it's acknowledgment that volatile drunken bouts of angry arguments have left him alone. bitter roads become lonely highways, just and your regrets. highwayMany old highways (highway 40, even route 66) feels pretty lonely if your solo out there like almost no other ppl or traffic. Permanently closed tiny gas stations here and there like relics. Sir, I hope you were graced at some point with an offer to reconcile with your family and hash things out and reconnect. It's quite clear this person had ample time alone countless nights running things back "if i could just start again from here" a million times" most never get an opportunity to those we pushed that we get it. Like, wow I REALLY understand.... unfortunately like I said it's often too late opportunity lost no wallow in it so sad but a beautiful honest review of internal log during long night on desolate rarely traveled highways. Just you solo constantly reminded by your loneliness you fucked royally and now your still alone and still full of regret. Talk to somebody. Even a stranger please. It's something which can get turned back to a healthier place tho it seems impossible. ❤😢
I have listening to this song for months. It’s one of the most emotional songs that teaches a phenomenal message.

Amazing songwriter and human being. Thank you for giving him your attention.

The lyrics are everything!!
"I can't place the genre ... because it could just be ... great music..." . Yep. You nailed it absolutely perfectly!

Living how to live alone!
I've never heard of this guy before, but I really enjoyed this. His voice is amazing and soulful. Can you imagine if he and Chris collaborated?!

He means if you try and suppress feeling they will find a different way of showing themselves.

Warren Haynes needs to tour/perform with this guy. He's basically just a lost Allman brother.
One word for you, Riser.
This guy's music is depressing as hell, but amazing. I love him.

Thanks!
I haven't heard of Travis before. He sounds good reminds me of Ray lamontagne.

He was a acholic at one point
Travis has written songs for many well-known artists. You might want to check out "Better Boat." Travis' version instead of Kenny Chesney's cover.
Jake Owens song was his best
He sounds like a male version of Susan Tedeschi to me
